Hello.

this isn't for Shadow.... she's holding steady except that her lipoma has now doubled in size. :arghh:

I just wonder if any one has dealt with either....

Our sheltie has hypothyroid and hyperlipidemia.

Her cholesterol was 2054 - normal is 92-324 ( after a 16 hour fast) and her triglyceride was 2585 - normal is 29-291

she's on a diet now.... and thyroid medication and the gemfibrozil is on it's way from diamondbackdrugs.com

apparently cats can get this too..... so hoping someone has advice.

My sister's dog is not hypothyroid but had high cholesterol and triglycerides like that and was put on a special food. I'll find it the name if you want. He likes it and it is a newer Hills prescription. He was supposed to lose weight which he did but hasn't gotten down to his ideal weight. She needs to bring him back for more labs to see if it worked though.

yes please.

I'm suspicious of hill's....as we all are.

I've looked at a few other dog foods.... and even chicken soup for the dog lover's soul....the weight loss one.... is lower fat than hill's.

hill's says the same for thyroid as for diabetes....
lower fat... higher fiber....

but we all know that isn't the case with diabetes....
so I'm suspicious of them.....
but this is a new disease to us that I'm dealing with.

Me too and I hesitated to even write about this until at least she has his blood drawn again to see if the numbers came down. Our vet didn't run them again when she was there last because Kobe was still losing weight.

FYI: carbohydrate molecules can be spliced and re-arranged by the body and stored as various fats, including triglycerides. Cutting both the carb and fat may help control the hyperlipidemia.

Interesting. For the first time Max had both high cholesterol and high triglycerides but he had eaten a lot before his blood tests as he decided to go low. I will of course retest with at least a 6 hour fast but think I probably need to find different food. He's on low carb ff, Stella & Chewy's, Trader Joes for mc and soulistic for hc. I want lower phosphorus as well as his creatinine aweny up from 1.8 to 2.2. It's hard to find food he will eat that is better for him. Sorry for hyjacking this thread.
