Yesterday's Panic Attack

Stress is never in short supply at my house. I've been so grateful that Cinco is giving me lovely, safe numbers and eating all his food. So now he seems to feel he has to contribute to the cause. I noticed last night he has been spending some time sitting next to his water dispenser, looking as though he is staring at it (which, of course, he can't do). Not hovering over it like Minka and Harvey were doing when they were dehydrated, but just sitting next to it, like he was trying to make a point. I thought maybe he wanted me to clean it, so I did (it wasn't really dirty, just had a few crumbs in it). I haven't seen him do it since, but it was unnerving me. He also seems to be drinking more often than before. Then he didn't eat much of his +6 snack. I took the plate and mixed in another FF flavor and he cleaned it up - guess it was just a commentary on my flavor choice on the first try! Argh! @Shelly & Jersey, my cats ARE trying to kill me!

Minka seems much better today. After her usual Ond/Pepcid gelcap, she ate her breakfast in two sittings with some enthusiasm and just now had a snack. Of course, it was FF. I'm suspending attempts to get her to eat anything else until I feel like she's more stable again. Assist feeding is still at the back of my mind, though.

I was awakened at about 5 am by the sound of a cat preparing to throw up next to my head. I grabbed Sasha, rolled over and deposited her on the floor - just in time!

She didn't come back to bed, but around 7:00 I heard her again. Then, just as my alarm went off, I could hear her again. o_O I gave her some Ond and Pepcid. An hour later she still didn't want to eat - not even her treats. Just now, three hours after the meds, I got her to eat a little baby food. She also has some diarrhea. I'm trying not to panic. I did feed a new food yesterday - Natural Choice Turkey and Cod. Maybe it didn't agree with her? I'll just see how today goes, but if she isn't better tomorrow I'll call her Oncologist.

On the brighter side, Harvey is doing really well (anti-jinx). The .05ml of Bupe seems to keep him quieter than he normally is, but he's alert and comes over to me when I open the cage to get scritches. He still hasn't tried to escape, but seems more interested in it than he has been. What he has done is get out of his collar, several times! He's also gotten part way out. Last night he had it around his midsection, like a skirt! :p:joyful:

I have NO idea how he did that! He's gotten it pretty ragged already - I may ask for another when I take Minka for her chemo Thursday. Appy is great. I just hope we can maintain at this level for another six days!

Sending healing vines to all in need, and hugs to all their beans. :bighug: Prayers continue for Amy's DF, Lyresa's DF & DH, Lisa's DF and Elise's DM. Thinking of everyone in the path of the "Historic Storm". I hope it turns out to be a non-event.

:bighug: Maybe time to try cerenia instead of ondansetron with Sasha for a few days and see if it helps more. It has the right effect on inflammation and many say works better when vomiting is the issue. If you have any it can't hurt and might help. Just my 2 cents. I hope Cinco's behavior doesn't turn out to be anything other than a one day deal.

I'm glad Minka and Harvey are feeling better today. (anti-jinx)

Argh! @Shelly & Jersey, my cats ARE trying to kill me!

See. Told ya. I was right. (Where's the smiley where you pat yourself on the back? Just insert that one here.)

I know I've said it before, but I truly am amazed at all that you're doing. I could barely take care of Jersey's fd. I don't know how you're managing multiple issues with multiple kitties without driving yourself to exhaustion. Sincerely - you get a standing ovation from me. :bighug:

I'm sending out vines to the entire gang.
Shelly

P.S. Just in case you didn't catch the plan - Sasha was hoping you would scurry out of the bed so quickly this morning that you would fall and whack your head on the nightstand. I only know this because Jersey has previously plotted against me in this manner. ;)

I hope the thing with Cinco was just a one time thing and he was being picky about the water. I'm glad Harvey is doing okay. I hope Sasha is feeling better. I know you're dealing with a lot with your crew. Sending prayers and hugs. :bighug::bighug:

I'm with Shelly...I'm in awe of how you manage everyone there. I hope Cinco was just messing around with you for whatever crazy reason it is that cats do anything; that Sasha's food just didn't agree with her and the barf was a one-time deal; and that Minka and Harvey stay on track with the fuds!! Honestly, I think e-collars are just a joke to kitties...I know more who turn into Houdini with e-collars than who are succesful in actually keeping a kitty away from a wound!

I hope you're having a great evening, Tricia!

Gosh Tricia- I just read last night's post, there is never a dull moment in your HH, big hugs to you! :bighug::bighug: I hope Cinco is feeling better, Sasha too. Sending tons of prayers, hugs and vines for all. Sweet Harvey, how did he turn that collar around into a tutu? We may never know the truth...

Thanks, Elise, Carla, Shelly, Ruth and Amy.

She still wasn't feeling right when we left. I gave her some more Ond. She drank a little chicken broth. I left some boiled chicken in broth and some baby food out for her. If she's not better by morning I'll call her Oncologist.

@tiffmaxee , I thought I remembered your saying that about Cerenia. I gave the Ond at about 5:15 pm. Can I give her the Cerenia around midnight?

Cinco hasn't done anything else today to concern me, so maybe he was just telliing me he wanted the water dispenser cleaned (which means it must have tasted funny, since he can't see the crumbs). He's earned himself a hovering helicopter mom for the next day or so - even more than usual! :p

Thanks for the kind words, Shelly and Amy. I'm not sure how I'm surviving this. For sure not much else is getting done at my house! I wouldn't be doing this well if it weren't for the support and advice I get from my LL family. You guys are awesome! You've even helped people that have never been on the Board. My brother and sister in law have a beagle they were training to be a service dog for my DSIL, who is profoundly deaf. They stopped his training when they realized he gets car sick, so they can't take him anywhere. My DB said the vet told them to try Benadryl! Needless to say, it didn't help. I told him to ask for Cerenia. He did and this weekend they took Jimmie with them when they went to visit their son. It worked like a charm! They are thrilled, and I wouldn't have known about it if not for this Board, so thanks!

This afternoon I received an e-mail from the PR director for UCDVMTH. Every month they do a feature on a patient and put it in their newletter, and they make these nice posters that they place in the waiting rooms so people can read about them. They want to focus on Oncology next month, and Dr. S. told them about me and my three kitties with cancer, so guess who they want to feature?! The only problem is they want a photo of Cinco, Minka and Sasha together, with no people in it! Don't know how that'll happen, but we'll give it a shot. He said if we couldn't manage it, I could give them individual pictures. I'm going to meet with him on Thursday when I take Minka for her chemo. Should be interesting.

Congratulations on being chosen??? Not sure if that's a good thing or not, but I guess if you have to be known for something connected with cancer, it's best to be known as someone who's fighting the good fight and WINNING!!

You're going to be an inspiration to lots of others!

Cinco...you stop being silly and worrying your mamabean!! She needs you to be somewhat normal right now!!

Thanks, Chris. Yes, it is a mixed blessing. But maybe if people are thinking they can't handle one animal with cancer and see I have three, that will help them!

Cinco seems to have behaved while we were gone. All the food in Otto disappeared as if it had never been there. Minka had not eaten the food left for her, but Mark put the dishes in front of her when we got home and she cleaned them off, then ate about 1/3 of the fresh I offered. Same deal with Sasha - she hadn't eaten, but cleaned her plates when Mark held them, and then ate the tablespoon or so of baby food that was left in the jar. I'm going to try to get her to eat a little cat food before bed. Harvey had cleaned his plate, and did the same with his snack, so everyone is fed. That .05 of Bupe he had this morning was long gone and he was back to 100% Harvey - really wanted out of the cage! It was a struggle to switch out the plates without his getting out. At least he isn't crying. I did give him another .05.

Time to give Minka her fluids. Bless her little heart, she came downstairs all on her own and got up on the loveseat where we do them. :)
