Yesterday's condo: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=3939

Good morning beans...

Well back up to high numbers after being a chicken youknowwhat yesterday and giving fat 1 units instead of the dosecrease I had been giving of 1.25. The huge drop in 3 hours that I had the night before scared me and I backed up, which I can now see the folly of. JoJo warned me about that, but I guess I had to do it for myself to learn. ohmygod_smile Part of the backup was that I am still pretty sick and needed to sleep last night (the night before I was up til 1 a.m. checking numbers). Well, we live and we learn. Learning to shoot low numbers is going to be a challenge for me because of how sensitive he was to the PZI before, but I'm going to have to walk through it to get this boyo healthy and happy.

WCR: Kitty is doing fine; eating well; grooming; drinking - the usual stuffs. Giving Clavamox AM and PM. Will be doing dental at the end of 2 weeks of antibiotics.

I finally got my Precision Xtra ketone blood testing strips so that will make that process a little easier for me.

Hope you all have a happy blessed day.

Re: 1/26/10 - Bashful - AMPS 440

I hope Bash clears this quickly, and that you feel better, too. Glad you got the new setup, in case you need it. (Guess I'd better check the dates on my strips, I haven't used them.)

Okay...tested with Precision Xtra Ketone strips and got 0.9 - it says it's normal until 0.6 - but that

"between 0.6 and 1.5 and blood glucose 300 or higher, this may indicate development of a problem that could require medical assistance." He was negative on Sunday at the vet.

What do I do now? Vet visit? Or check again later or tomorrow a.m.??

He seems to be acting normally otherwise, good appetite. MIGHT have a tiny bit of neuopathy in rear legs...walking okay, but seemed like one leg was a little weak when he first got on the floor.

Help?

Re: 1/26/10 - Bashful - PMPS 428 - Trace Ketones (eta)

just keep an eye on the ketones for now. I believe the level at which ketones start spilling into the urine is about 3.0 (for most cats) so he is most likely still below what a urine stick would catch. That might even be a normal number for him. If your next test shows an upward trend, that is when you start being alert.

Of course, it's always a good idea to push extra water (mix water into food, etc.) when there are ketones.

ps. Read this: http://www.felinediabetes.com/phorum5/p ... hp?22,5868 (this is one person's experience/data)

Thank you.

I've been adding water to his wet food, and when I saw that number, I added even more. :)

How often should I be testing his ketones? Morning and evening? Should I test again later tonight before bed?

It seems like when I used to test him for ketones (4+ years ago) he was in the 0.2 - 0.4 range, but I can't say for sure, that was a long time ago.

The brochure calls it "mmol/L" - is that a different way of reading than is normal??
