Good morning LL! Sunny yellow start for Tarragon today. I woke up long enough to hear him playing in the living room in the night again. He is really full of it these days and nights and it is so good to see him enjoying himself.

Turnup is not feeling well. She is a very light eater anyway and is eating even less than normal. I found pukus with plant in it when I got home yesterday. She has always been a plant eater so I know it was hers. We are very careful about the type of plants we have in the house because of it. She is just wanting to lay on DH the last couple of nights and acts like her tummy hurts. Last night she was smacking her lips. This has happened twice in the past few years with her and they never find anything. She FREAKS out at the vet so we are trying to avoid that if at all possible. Does anyone have any ideas? pepcid?

It's good to hear Tarragon's happy kitty report.

I assume you've tried Pepcid AC for Turnup. How is her lb function? No goo poo? Good luck with her. Sending be well vines.

I have a plant eater, my civvie does it whenever he's got an upset tummy. He has food allergies so it happens often. My vet told me to buy cat grass so he can chew on that instead of the house plants that can make things worse. You can try that if they sell it at your pet store.

I wish I had answers for sweet Turnup. You could try the Pepcid AC (2.5 mg, or 1/4 of a 10mg tablet), but if she's been feeling icky for a few days now, I might be inclined to take her to the vet, just to be sure. I've never tried it before myself, but maybe some Rescue Remedy would help calm her for going to the vet? I sure hope she's feeling better ASAP...maybe she'll read Tarragon's condo and see the threat of a vet visit in it!

Melissa, sorry to hear about Turnup and tummy problems with eating some plant. I'd be inclined to call the Vet's office and ask them if you should bring her in today? Maybe they'll offer help over the phone and no need for a visit. What kind of plant?. Sending vines for Turnup. Let us know. Hugs.

Ann - It was swedish ivy. It is listed under non-toxic. We have around 30 house plants but they are only ones listed on the non-toxic list since she is a plant eater. Tarragon has never touched them, other than to knock them over. :lol:

I am at tbp, but DH is headed to the store for pepcid and cat grass. He is planning on calling the vet when it opens.

That is funny with Tarragon knocking them over. I guess they're in his way! :lol:

That's a good idea for DH to call Vetty. I've never had a kitty eat plant, so I panic anyway! Sending vines to your sweet Turnup.

Hi Melissa, I hope that Turnup will be feeling better soon. Good idea to call the vet. Stu used to eat grass and weeds and throw them up. He did it on purpose, to make his stomach feel better, I guess. He didn't bother the houseplants. But we really had to watch out if people brought us flowers. He thought they were for him, and many cut flowers are poison to cats (e.g., tulips, lillies). From what I've read here on the board, lip-smacking is a sign of upset stomach.

Awww poor girl, i hope whatever is ailing her goes away with the pepcid. Did you tell your DH to get some pill pockets to go along with it? Or can Turnup be pilled with no problems?

Great to hear Tarragon is feelin' pretty good today and playing, i hope he comes down a bit for y'all today.

I'd run a pancreatitis test - the spec fpl one not the amylase one. I never remember the specifics.

Pepcid can't hurt at all. Just make sure you follow with a syringe of water or food. If it stays in the throat or the esophagus it will cause issues. Maverick was on pepcid intermittently for a few days at a time when needed.

I found out that bamboo - the kind you see all over the place is not bamboo and extremely toxic to cats. That went in the garbage.

Turnup - I hope you get to feeling better. I don't have ANY houseplants in the main house any more, KT is my plant eater. Everything's out in the sunroom during the winter - Pepper doesn't eat any of it. She doesn't even play in the dirt.

Hope you're not getting this rain..rain..rain...rain...oh, did I mention RAIN? We've had INCHES by now.

I thought of you all very seriously when I was at PetSmart yesterday. There's a young adult cat in their adoption cages that looked so much like Tarragon. She's a very shy, scared baby, only looks out of the 'house' with one little green eye...her white whiskers just glowed. She needs love and a home so badly - it was written all over her face. I just wanted to pick her up and drive her to Tulsa....

My Maddie freaks out at the vet too, one thing that helps her is putting her in a pillowcase. I know how crazy that sounds, but she stays in it happily and is calmer that way. She prefers not to see what is going on around her! :lol:

Grass/ plant eating indicates a digestive upset of some type.

This could be something as mundane as a hairball needing to clear to the not eating indicating a potential blockage.

Options I would first pursue would be to provide some cat grass and see if this doesn't bring things up or out as needed. I would also offer a hairball remedy or I use white petroleum jelly (vaseline) with Attie. Attie licks it with gusto right off my finger. Same amount as standard hairball stuff. (PS. read the label on the hairball stuff...it's pertroleum jelly in many cases).

And of course you want to watch for full refusal to eat indications as that situation my warrent a trip to the vet. 2-3 days waiting is tops...then vet, if not sooner.

Yellow is good Mr T, but blue is better.

Sending healing vines for Turnu, non-toxic ones. I hope it is something as simple as a hairball. If she likes plants she should like the cat grass. BTW, that is just wheat seedlings. You can grow your own much cheaper!

I grow it in pots in the house, and he eats some every day.

FWIW...Pepcid worked beautifully for the boy when he got the "horrible pukes" while still on insulin...
apparently his issue was stomach acid.

My GA doll Homie was a terribly ill baby when I got him,
and his baby pic looks like a tiny little Grinch Who Stole Xmas- in black with no belly hair. :lol:

Nice greens tonight. :mrgreen: Tarragon trashed the house again while I was at tbp. Nanners everywhere, cubes in a different room, and rugs all messed up. I don't know what has gotten into him, but I love it. Charlie met me at the door wide eyed with that "it wasn't me" look.

Turnup was screaming for supper when I got home so I guess she is feeling much better. DH gave her a 1/4 Pepcid at lunch along with some store bought cat grass and some hair all gel. Wow on the price of grass. It's just grass for goodness sake. We Will have to grow our own soon. Thank you all for your healing vines. They worked wonders.

Celi - Thanks on Tarrie's baby pic. He was so sick and not the cutest kitten but Mason fell in love with him. He used to hide under a desk we had in the entryway. We had a friend over and Tarragon ran under the desk. The friend (a manly man) screamed like a little girl thinking T was a mouse. :lol:

OT- Mason called today in a lot of pain. Poor kid has kidney stones. Yikes!!! I get them and know how painful they are but have heard they are even worse for a man. Mason has a very high pain threshold, almost scarily so. He was about in tears when I talked to him so it must be bad. Sucks to be away from home with something like that. He is spending his night with a gallon of cranberry juice, ibuprofen, and antibiotics. It will be a long night for him.

Hey Melissa --Glad to hear Turnup is better--Remember when Moonie went to ER few weeks ago for tummy upset & throwing up?? Guess what she got? Pepcid-swear it is a miracle for these kitties!!
BTW I give Moonie a 1/4 pepcid in a greenie pill pocket!! Works every time she scoffs it up!
Sorry to hear she wasnt well, but glad she is better!!! I will still keep her in my healing prayers for our babies!

Tarragon seems to be feeling great with great numbers to match!!!
Wish Moonie was still running around like that, I used to love that!!

Melissa, so glad Turnup is okay. I've never tried the store bought grass but have been tempted to try it. I have to laugh at Tarragon and the mischief, good to hear as he must be feeling good. So sorry to hear about Mason and the kidney stones. I've heard it's so painful. Sending vines to both Mason and Turnup.

I'm glad to hear Turnup is better. And what an awesome AMPS for Tarragon!

But poor Mason - I'm so sorry. My hubby had a kidney stone at 4:00am on Dec 26 2003. Remember it all too well. He, too, has a very high threshold for pain, and he was absolutely writhing. I actually had to call 911 because we didn't know what was wrong, and even if we did, I could not have driven him to the hospital under those conditions. It was a long several days before the thing passed. They did give him percocet, which didn't agree with him, but he was in enough pain to take it anyway. I hope it's over much more quickly for Mason.

I would be inclined to check with the vet too. She may have a pre-existing stomach ache (possibly from a pre-existing condition) that led her to eat the plant in the first place. I don't think pepcid would hurt her though.

I'm pretty lucky that my vet is able to compound famotidine (pepcid) in a triple fish flavor that is easy to dispense.

Do you have any vets in your area that make house calls? I am lucky in that I do. She only charges $60/hour and will see multiple pets. Usually she can see 2 at a visit. There are limitations because if a cat needs bloodwork, it has to go to a clinic, but having exams at home is really great. She comes over specifically to treat my felv+ girls who are semi feral and very freaked out by vet visits and extremely difficult to get into a cat carrier.

What a great night for Mr. Tarragon. I wish it was a better day for poor Turnup. Glad the pepcid has helped a little. Pepcid is a miracle drug around our household. It really helps Simon feel better when he is doing the pukus thing.

Sorry to also hear about Mason. My DH just had some kidney stones taken care of around Christmas. He also has a high pain level and I have never seen him cry so much when he had the stones. Even after they blasted them, it still hurt for a week.

Sending healing vines and prayers to Mason and Turnup tonight.
 
Wow! What a day for your family, Melissa. I'm just shaking my head. Sending healing energy to Turnup and Mason. Congrats to Tarragon - way to go, Mr. T! I love it that you rearranged the house so much that Charlie was worried he would get blamed. :lol: :lol:
