Happy Friday afternoon, Lantus Land! Lots of healing vines and thoughts to Mannie, Moonie, Noni, Do Lou, Cleo, JD, Boots, Bubba, and Pinkerton and get well wishes to Anne, Melanie, Carla and please forgive me for anyone I've forgotten!
FINALLY!! A green AMPS so we are taking that green smiley face because she had such a great night last night!
Oh boy but did I have to get used to getting up again after so many nights of being able to sleep....but it's worth it to have her have a nice, flat cycle. We're still doing alot of testing early in the cycle because that's when she likes to dive. I'm hoping as we all get more adjusted to the new dose and we see if she can stay flat on it, we can cut back on the early testing. She's been a happy little girl this morning even with all the extra tests. Our baby girl is such a sweetheart about this whole FD dance.
Yesterday, I had a long talk with her vet, Dr. B about Gracie's ALT. We have taken her off all the meds...denamarin, ursodiol, and taurine....they were not keeping her ALT from rising so Dr. B is not sure how effective they are. If we take her off for a few weeks and recheck and she's ALOT higher, then they were probably helping to some degree. However, Dr. B talked to the IM Specialist and he feels the next step is to do a serum bile acid assay. So we have this scheduled for Feb 7. We have to fast her after midnight, they will do a blood draw at 8, then we can bring her home, give her a late shot, feed her a large meal, and then she goes back for another blood test about two hours after she finishes her meal. If her test results are normal, then it shows her liver is functioning properly. If they are not, then it would indicate there is a problem with her liver function. The next step would be another U/S with a guided needle biopsy of the liver. Of course, the problem with that is they can't actually see the liver and the chance of identifying the problem is reduced but Mike and I are not too keen on a surgical biopsy at this time. So....a step at a time and we'll see. I did some reading last night and Cornell University has done some testing on urine bile acid tests as being more indicative of liver function than serum blood tests. But I'm not sure how developed or easily available the ability to do that test is. I need to continue researching it. It would be better to do that kind of test as I don't think fasting would be required but there weren't specifics on how it works. Needless to say, we are nailbite_smile nailbite_smile nailbite_smile Gracie is our joy, our baby girl.
Have a great day!
