Good morning!
AMPS 117 shooting .25F
We just can't seem to shake these blue numbers:eek: Boomer seemed to respond to the slight increase in insulin at first and now is giving me more and more blue again. :arghh:

Allen goes to the vet today for the Ionized calcium and PTH tests so we've had to fast him since 11:00 last night. I feel so bad when I have to fast a kitty:(. We'll be leaving right after Boomer's +3 today. Send vines please!

This bean didn't get much sleep last night. I woke up twice coughing. Boomer woke me up twice because he didn't like the tuna (liberally sprinkled with treats) that he had for overnight foods. And other than the 4 times already mentioned I think I woke up maybe 10 other times for no apparent reason

I'm hoping to go over to Global Pets this morning to get some of the Weruva foods that are ok for both Boomer and Allen. Wendy pointed out yesterday that many of the foods have less calories so they will be better for Boomer than the ones I've been feeding him since he's been gaining weight ever since we stopped giving him fancy feast.

Booms has been barely blue but watch him. Look at his 2016 SS...it was 1 year ago today he basically looked the same (a little better this year). You did go upto .5u, he went all green and earned the reducies by going under 50 three times. I'm convinced your boy is a seasonal diabetic

Sending loads of vetty vines and prayers for Allen. Give him extra food when he gets back along with some scritches for me.

Sending vetty vines for Allen. I hate having to fast a cat too, especially when you need to feed the others. Sorry you didn't get much sleep last night. I hope you can get a nap in today. Boomer it's time to head back to the lagoon. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

That is too funny. Maybe he is reacting to your stress about Allen . Sending you vines for today. And yes, ditto, the fasting stinks. Before Bubba was diabetic the house rule was : one animal fasting, all animal fasting. Dang FD makes it so hard on everyone.
Since our guys are fed separately to begin with, it's not problematic to fast one of them. I just hate doing it; I feel so bad.:arghh: Only an hour until Boomer's +3 and then we leave for the vet with Allen.

Visited the local Global Pets and they had only 1 of the 5 foods that I have deemed acceptable for both diabetic and ckd cats. sigh. I've sent a fb message to a small pet store near us that lists Weruva as one of their brands; hoping to find the remaining 4 foods. sigh Having myself quite a pity party today and the lack of sleep certainly isn't helping.

Thanks for looking Karen and you're right, we did go through this and up and down the dosing scale last year and I think it was a year ago today that we increased him to .5 because he was bombarding us with blues.

 yes Boomer please work the juice today when Daddy Bean and I have to leave the house to take Allen to the vetty-bean:rolleyes:
sigh

Left Allen at the vet; they've done the blood draw and given him fluids. He hasn't been pooping regularly and not enough when he does go. Dr Larry told us there was a food we could use that was pretty much 100% successful in getting a cat to poop but if it didn't work within a day Allen would need an enema and Dr Larry will be away for the rest of this week. So we opted to leave Allen there for the enema. I didn't get the name of the food. And something else I've noticed with Allen is that he's shaking his head so I mentioned that to Dr Larry. Allen hasn't been scratching his ears at all....just shaking his head periodically.

The next closest pet store doesn't have the foods I'm after either
It's so frustrating Judy and you guys can't order from Chewy in Canada, right? Have you checked Amazon CA? If you send me the list of what you want I can try to get a few for you and mail them to try out.

Onlynaturalpet.com allows you to order single cans but not sure about shipping to Canada.

sorry the food is being so hard to find Judy... i found some on the list and then after buying them no kitty in the house wanted them! found others that they liked... so then bought enough for a whole month... now they are being picky about the ones they liked... cats :cat::cat::cat:

hope this new food helps Allen and that test come back with an easy fix for him... prayers for nothing serious :bighug::bighug:

Sorry, @Lincolns Mom , but you know:

Judy, don't let this happen to you (don't tell them how much you bought)! ;)

Sending vines for Allen. I hope everything comes out okay (couldn't resist :p). Seriously, I hope the problem is resolved and doesn't recur. Maybe when you pick him up you can ask the name of the food. I think a lot of us would be interested to know what it is.

I laughed at Karen's "seasonal diabetic" comment, but you know, never say never with a cat! ;)

Sending tons of good vetty vines and b/w results vines for Allen.:bighug: Sounds like he's getting a little dehydrated and needs more water in his food. Poor guy, I hope the enema works quickly.

I found a good selection of the Weruva at my local Pet Valu store, and I see you have some of those in your town.

Safe surfing Boomer. :D

We have a pet value pretty close to home so that's my next try. I would like to see if Boomer likes the food since it's lower in calories. For right now Allen is eating Royal Canin Gastrointestinal dry food

I found a place that appeared to be willing to ship single cans but the shipping for one can was something like $14.95 lol. There doesn't seem to be a spot that will give us a break on shipping. I haven't tried amazon.ca yet but I will. I haven't exhausted all the pet food stores yet; we have tons. Thank you for your offer! :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug: If I can't find the Weruva than I'll research another brand.

This confuses me. Did you ask your vet why they recommend a dry food for a cat that has constipation? It's so counter-intuitive, since they need more water in their system to poop. You'd think a dry food would make it worse.o_O
Dr Larry says they've had good luck with this foodo_O And Allen has been getting plenty of canned food with a bit of added water and he also drinks lots. I don't know.

So Allen is home now. Didn't have much of a poop at the vetty and wouldn't eat anything at the vetty. But he had diarrhea in the carrier on the way home  and has eaten some of the new food since he got home.
The blood work for the Ionized calcium and PTH tests will take up to a week to get results:nailbiting:
Allen was a bit dehydrated so they gave him fluids.

Have you taken a look at the ingredients? Rice as the first ingredient. Even their GI wet food is 20-30% carbs, depending which version you feed. Dry food is also not good for kidney cats. And this particular one is a little high on phosphorus too.

I hope Allen feels better now that he's got some poop out and some fluids in him.

Hope the enema works and I would be very reluctant to give him dry food. It probably has fiber in it but it will no doubt be grains. Is Allen older? Sometimes the motility in the colon slows down and they have trouble evacuating.

sigh
I've looked at the ingredients and the top ingredient is rice.
I have no idea why pet food companies sell this crap.
DH brought up the subject of low phosphorous food to Dr Larry who said basically there may be a bit of kidney disease but it's not to the point where we have to look at a different diet o_Oo_Oo_O
Right now we have to get Allen pooping. If the dry food helps, then it's acceptable for a few days and will give me some time to find some lower phosphorous foods for Allen and then I can transition him over. Right now I've only managed to find one food and it is just barely acceptable.

I find that the 3 PetValu stores in my ON town carry different flavours of the same brand. If one doesn't have the specific flavour, another might.

If pet food companies saw the amount of time some people spent standing in front of rows of cat food, staring hopelessly, you'd think they'd see a market opportunity.

I'm going to try Pet Value tomorrow; luckily there is one close by!

My favorite local shop did not have the food I was looking for but he was more then happy to order it for me from one of his distributors that carried it. He is such a nice guy I prefer to throw my money at him rather then the big box stores. He even sells it cheaper then chewy which surprised me.

Good luck finding on the scavenger hunt for fuds.

Thank you everyone for all the vines for Allen!
He's been sitting in our spare bedroom since we brought him home; he did eat some as soon as we got him home and DH carried him out once and he ate a bit. No further poops. I had just remarked to DH that Allen wasn't acting like I thought he would be tonight. Then it was time for t/f/s and I called and called him and he didn't bother to come. But DH got out the (new) dry food to fill his bowl up and he actually came running down the hall which was nice to see. So he's now sitting on DH's lap with his head on DH's chest and he's purring.

Hi Judy, I hope that Allen's test results come back acceptable. Good news that he's running around tonight. Maybe it will help him to have a poop.
Sorry I can't help you with the fuds. Too bad Chewy.com isn't available to you.

Hoping you all have a good, restful evening and a good night's sleep. Boomer, do your part! Your beans need rest!
