Seems like Max is trying to get a little constipated. Gave him 1/2 cc of lactulose. He has been having very hard BMs. I think he feels better now. With his IBD, he goes from one extreme to the other. Hope the Budesonide will help. I didn’t think to ask his vet about him being on Flovent and starting Budesonide too. I wonder if that’s too much steroids on board?
 
Have you tried adding a little canned pumpkin to his food? (not pumpkin pie mix, just the one that says 'Pure Pumpkin' on the label). I've seen that suggested here...might help??

Thanks for your suggestion. I have added pumpkin to his food but sometimes that still doesn’t help. The lactulose I gave him helps but I have to be careful how much because that will give him diarrhea. I think he’s better now though. Thanks again!:)
 
Does anyone else on FDMB have a cat on Flovent inhaler for asthma and also taking Budesonide for IBD? @Wendy&Neko do you know of anyone, or do you know if being on two steroids like that is okay? My vet didn’t mention anything about it when we were there. We haven’t started it yet, but it’s been ordered.

Hi Lori,

Pearl is on Flovent and Pred. She has also been on Flovent and Budesonide on past. Both combos of steroids are ok, there is no harm in doing both. Budesonide acts locally in the gut and for lots of kitties does not raise BG. Pred is great for helping with the lung inflammation and other inflammation anywhere. It has a broad affect and is not limited like Budesonide.

Thanks Margaret! Max has mild ventricular hypertrophy so his vet said the Budesonide would be a safer choice for him. I really hope it doesn’t affect his BG. It’s really difficult to manage a kitty with multiple conditions but overall Max does pretty well despite all that goes on with him. Thank you so much!

I am cheering for you and Max. Boy oh boy is it tough to manage multiple things - but very thankful you’ve been doing the sugar dance now for awhile so you will be able to easily see how his BG does with the Budesonide. Some things just aren’t tweakable - my Pearl HAS to have the oral steroid and of course the Flovent is non negotiable - along with many other meds for other conditions. So we just work with it.
