Thankfully, Gen seems to be eating well as of last night/this morning! I'm still feeling really anxious and twitchy about his sudden appetite issues, and it doesn't help that I won't be able to take him to the vet today (their schedule is booked up and I can't miss the afternoon meeting at work). My vet is supposed to call me at the end of the day to talk through things at least. Also, I've just sent an emailed request for a prescription for Ondanestron, in case we have more trouble tonight or this weekend and the Cerenia and Mirataz don't cut it. (And I mean, I'm eternally grateful for the advice of folks on this board that led to me having Cerenia and Mirataz on hand, or I don't know what I would have done!)

February 2nd (surgery date) cannot come soon enough. After that, I am hoping things will become a lot clearer with his overall health.

Work is going to be really challenging today, I suspect, as it demands a lot of focus and I'm not doing great with that at the moment. I'm grateful it's Friday, at least! I hope all of you have an excellent Friday, and that your kitties surf safely!

Some good snuggles from the other day. ❤️

Ah! I missed your first lime, what a stressful thing to have dealt with and in the middle of the night. Great job keeping Gen safe, but sorry it meant you were up so late.

Glad you had the right stuff on hand and that his appetite is coming back. Hope this continues and you have a call with the vet booked and a prescription order just in case. Gen is lucky to have you!!

Safe surfing tonight 🤗

Vet chat was good. She thinks there's a chance he has chronic pancreatitis, but she didn't run the test last time because it doesn't really affect his current/immediate treatment plan one way or another (i.e.: manage BG as best as I can with insulin, get dental surgery ASAP, then see where things are afterwards). I'm going to bring him in for a bit of a pre-surgery checkup Wednesday morning.

Gen is still eating well - I got home a little late, but still a good 40 minutes before his normal dinnertime, and he was harassing me about it s soon as I came in the door. He once again foiled my attempts to sneak pills into his food, however (a Cerenia tablet and a 50mg gabapentin tablet, per doctor's recommendation in case he's in GI pain, both tucked into a chicken-flavored gelcap). I stuck the gelcap in with a 3 or 4 kibbles and some freeze-dried rabbit, on top of his wet food, and he skillfully ate around it. How does he DO that? I'm now waiting for him to doze off more so I can try the pilling again. 🤞

I just got my Chewy autoship order with a fresh supply of wet food, and groceries for me, so we're about ready to hunker down for the storm! If we can keep power, I'm really quite looking forward to it. I hope I'll get some good opportunities for snow photography (and especially bird photography in the snow) this coming week, if I can keep my fingers warm enough.

not skillfully 🥲🥲🥲

hope keep power too!!! 💝

So glad he's back to eating well! That's by far the most stressful part of caring for Xander is managing his appetite. The mirataz has been a miracle lately. Just the tinyiest dab here and there has helped keeping his eating regularly.

I also can't get him to eat pills with food. He's not too bad about letting me pill him, but also very good at pretending to swallow them haha. I figured out the gel capsule tip early on, after he ran through the house foaming from the bitter cerenia 😮
