We're at a loss as to what happened. This is new insulin so that's not the issue. He even threw up this morning at shot time so I would have expected his BG to drop considerably in the first hour to hour and a half. He was flat blue all day yesterday. The day before that he was flat yellow in the AM but nadired green in the PM cycle.

He doesn't seem to be feeling 100%. He's been chomping on some of our indoor plants and this morning, I found some throw up with greens (most likely his). I have coconut oil for hairballs but he won't take it. Can we add it to his food or will it only help with hairballs if ingested alone?

We've had no luck checking for ketones. Is this really a possibility when his numbers have been so good for what, about a month?

How much longer should we wait before calling it a fail and going back up to 0.75u?

I don't think you need to give the coconut oil all by itself. It should do the same thing if it's in food.

Is there any chance Zeke found some contraband? Is all litter box activity all good? I'm wondering if he may have a UTI or if there's something medical. Of course, his pancreas may have just gotten tired and he's throwing you some higher numbers. (Look at Gabby's SS-- she did something similar before her numbers leveled out again.) I would give this another cycle or two and then make a decision regarding an increase.)

Hi Sienne, thanks for your response. LB poo activity seemed light for about a day and a half but the wet waste was about normal. We have 3 kitties so it's hard to know 100% who did what but we often have a pretty good hunch. As Zeke did seem to not be feeling 100% last few days, I was wondering if perhaps he was a little constipated. As a result, I've been giving him pumpkin more reguarly. I do believe he had a BM during the night. However, I suspect he had some issue as I found a little poo out in the living room close to the LB area.

As for contraband, highly unlikely. All the cat food being fed right now is 7% or less. In fact our civies eat mostly 3% and 4%; Zeke gets the 7%. So if he had contraband it would have been some bean food crumbs off the floor.

If the wet LB activity is normal then can I rule out a UTI? Do you think we should take him to the vet?

I hope Zeke comes down from the yucky pinks for you soon, I'm sorry that I don't have any good answers for you but wanted to stop in to say hello :-D .

I sometimes give a bit of canola oil (like a half tsp) for hairballs or poo problems when the pumpkin or squash isn't cutting it...Chyna does like coconut oil when it's melted though it seems to be something that bothers her allergies, I did have to dip it on my finger to her lips to get her to try it at first. I'm sending feel better vines to Zeke. Have a good day!

I suppose I am an overreactor but if Gracie totally falls out of regulation and I know it's not the insulin, I usually let the vet check her.

Yes...they can be urinating a normal amount and still have a UTI. Some times the only way you know is because the BG goes up.

You can give coconut oil on its own or in food. Sending healing vines.

PS....if you have any of the old insulin, you might want to try that and see if it could be the new insulin as the problem. Probably isn't but you never know.

Glad to see you come down to the yellows, Zeke. It wasn't nice of you to stress out your beans like that. Hope you're feeling better now. cat_pet_icon

My but it was a very colorful day for Zeke today. Thank you Rachel, Marje, Tricia and Mariko for the good poo, feel better and healing vines. They worked!

I could tell when I left Zeke for work this morning that he was under the weather. He would barely move everytime I tested him. Fortunately it appears he may have gotten over whatever it was that was ailing him. He's been much more alert and active this evening.

I found a few extra poos outside the LB area. Upon inspection, I discovered a good bit of hair in them. Hopefully, hairballs were the root cause of his issues the last two days. I will have to put forth a better effort to get him some relief in that department. Zeke doesn't care for the coconut oil and just refuses to eat anything spiked with it. I will have to try the canola oil. Hopefully that won't be met with as much resistance.

Well, it's been a long work day with many more ahead, so I'm hoping Zeke flattens out here pretty soon so I can catch some zzzz's.

Hi Marje, yes Wednesday AM is looking much better to the last three. Hopefully, we'll start seeing as many greens as we were before. We are finding though that we're having to cut out the 7% and feed more 2% to try and keep him for rising. I'm thinking I might need to fatten the dose a bit. We'll give it another day perhaps. Thoughts?
