Nothing like being out until 3am to get back up at 6:30am to feed, test, and shoot...then go crawl back in bed for a few more hours of sleep..lol

Really not as high as I expected her to be since the whole household routine changed on her, this is the first time since we adopted her that mommy & daddy have been gone all night. Plus DH is always so high-strung right before a gig that the atmosphere in the house is always tense and in overdrive for hectic energy.

Re: 1/21 Musette 312

I'm up too but I did get sleep and now I think I'm too awake to go back to bed!!

Morning Musette girl!

If your DH ever plays up near Omaha let know. What does he play? Country?

Re: 1/21 Musette 312

They play a little bit of very thing...from the country song "Toes" to Elton John's "Candle in the Wind" to "War Pigs" and even some awesome originals. Since last night was the first time this particular line as ever gone live they are still trying to book fairly close to Hastings. Tonight they will be playing the Breakaway in Minden...but as good as they are I'm sure eventually they will be expending their radius to include Lincoln and Omaha.. :-D

All the muscians in the band have about 30 years of playing live music experience and have all played with each other in various other bands but this the first time they have all played together as one unit. So they know their stuff. :-D

If your on Facebook you can look them up...The band is called Cross Eyed Mary

Pretty cool! - Glad you had a nice night out, even though it was a late night! Will definitely take a peek at their FB page....

Re: 1/21 Musette 312

Hi, Mel ~

Your DH's band sounds like a lot of fun. Does he play an instrument? Or sing? Or both?

Nice blue for Musette last night. Just got to ride out that bounce for her. Maybe she'll clear quickly into some good numbers today, Mel.

Enjoy the weekend,
Eva

Re: 1/21 Musette 312

Eva,

He plays Bass Guitar and does a few lead vocals, but mostly background vocals. He doesn't think he can sing but I think he has a wonderful voice, I wish he would sing more leads on vocals...and I would say that I'm biased on that account, except for the fact that his band mates agree with me, so I think as they go along they are going to try to get him to do more of the singing..lol. Because of their long musical history of playing in other bands they right now have collectively a song list of over 500 songs that they "can" play, but about 400 of those they still have to work out who is doing what as far as vocals etc, now that they are playing as a single unit.

They didn't have the best opening night last night, but I think it was mostly the result of nerves and the fact that it was the wrong type of venue for the type of music that they play. The place that booked them last night was more a place for things like wedding receptions and business meetings etc. They are more a younger drinking, dancing & partying crowd type band. I think the place they are going to be playing tonight is going to be a much better type venue for them..since it is a more true bar type bar.

Re: 1/21 Musette 312, +6~293, +9~292

Really not to bad today overall so far considering the stress factors of last night, and I have noticed she is real sensitive about the vibe in the house. Things get even slightly out of the "normal" pattern, she numbers will jump up quite a bit. I have to remember something that I had forgotten early on with her too, and that is she is still truly settling in to our busy active household. She is still learning mine and DH's norms as well as 13 different feline personalities, and learning her place in the heirarchy, and a large canine presence. After living almost 12 years as one of two cats in a household where from both her vet records and personality traits that I see in her, she was bullied by her feline roommate so badly that her family put her outside as a front declawed cat, and was never really interacted with and loved on by her human caretaker. No wonder she stress out easily, she's only been with us a little over 6 months.

Then there is what I call the "seasons' of our household..lol There are several times of year that most of the cats here have lived through for a couple of years, that every new member of the family stress out over the first couple of times before they learn its just the normal vibe of the household, eventually is just becomes in them as natural and predictable as Oh it is summer now time to go lay in this window for the best early morning napping sun, and this window over here is better for late afternoon sun napping. And those are weekends when daddy is gigging, Husker football season, and The Fourth Of July! DH is always frantic and stressed and nervous the day of a gig, somedays I would like to be anywhere but at home with him 24 hours before a gig..lol, Football season DH is going to be either po'ed at the Huskers and yell at the TV. OR Screaming and jumping up and down to celebrate them doing well..DH is not a Husker Fan he is a Husker Fanatic! lol. And the Fourth of July our place sounds like a war zone, we are on the very edge of town, and because of that we are surrounded on 3 side by 3 major Public Fireworks displays, and we also have a lot of kids in out neighborhood, who are still of that age where they are setting off the really loud or noisey type fireworks, they are young enough that have gotten to that stage where they want the pretty showy displays, their still in the louder the better stage. So far she has only experienced the later two, this whole daddy's leaving for a gig is a new experience because he wasn't in a band when we adopted her, and none of the cats are use daddy going away all weekend for work, because that is pretty recent development.

Then add on last night that she went from nearly 400 last night at her pmps to 172 at her +8 (Oh do I love the time stamp on that meter because I say that I tested her later than I thought), so what probably even lower at around +6 where her nadir seems to falls. So I also am more than likely seeing another small bounce out of her, that is a pretty steep drop. So I really shouldn't have been surprised at that 312 this morning, actually I should be delighted that she didn't bounce any higher so it is progress that she is starting to get use to the lower numbers and her liver isn't panicing as much when it feels them.

Re: 1/21 Musette 312, +6~293, +9~292, pmps~206, +3~59

Kinda glad I stayed home with the critters tonight since she is only 59 at +3, I have started feeding everyone a little different at night instead of feeding them dinner at 7pm and then putting down their last meal of the day a few hours later at 10pm. I have started combining those two meals and putting it all down at 7pm so they can fill up early and then graze overnight. Just for nights like this one where she goes low early she has pletny of food down to go munch if she feels like she is going too low.

Gonna keep a close eye on her anyhow tonight just to make sure she doesn't continue to drop but she is usually pretty good about eating when she goes into the double digits early in the cycle.

Good Evening, Mel ~

"I think the place they are going to be playing tonight is going to be a much better type venue for them..since it is a more true bar type bar." -- I was wondering if you were going to watch your DH's band again tonight, Mel. Glad you could be home with little Musette instead. She's been doing really well on the 1.25U dose even with her bounces. Of course, now she had to give you that early 59  . That sweet furgirl never makes it easy for you, does she?

"Then there is what I call the "seasons' of our household..lol" -- I really enjoy reading your postings, Mel, and I especially liked this paragraph. You have a wonderful way of describing what goes on in your household and how it affects your kitties.

Goodnight to you and your furry crew,
Eva

Re: 1/21 Musette 312, +6~293, +9~292, pmps~206, +3~59,+4~51

This is the other place with Sweet Musette that I have to remember not to panic and over-react...lol Those green numbers early in the cycle, she has already shown me that she can dip into the low 40s and even high 30s and be completely fine and that if she feels like she is too low and has food available she will go eat on her own. Also I have tested enough of my civies to know that a good majority of them run in the low to mid 40s routinely on the meter that I use on her. So right now I have to learn to sit on my hands and let her do her thing while keeping just a little closer eye on her. Just got to remember in times like tonight my meter is my best friend and my greatest tool to watch her with. But not to react unless she goes dangerously low, because if I do then I'm back to fighting all those carbs in her system and causing her liver training to take a back step on what normal feels like but telling it that I'm worried enough about those 50s by adding carbs to protect her, so if I panic and feed her high carbs in what in reality is normal then I tell her liver it should panic about those numbers as well...If that makes sense.

Will she bounce tomorrow off these numbers tonight...yeah probably...but at least her body is getting a good dose of surfing the greens without mom flipping out and hopping her up on sugar and gravy carbs. So in effect I'm telling her little body that it is okay to be down this low, this is what we are striving for and there is no reason for panic..I'm trusting her to be okay with these readings. Not sure her body thinks like that but it helps me to think that it does...lol

Re: 1/21 Musette: pmps~206, +3~59,+4~51, +5~45

lol once again she proves to me that she has things undercontrol if mom just doesn't flip out...immediately after she came for her test, she walked over to her food dish and started having some nom-noms. Which is reality would be pretty darn close to when she would be eating her lunch time wise during the day..normally lunch is served here between +5 to +6 so this is about when her tunny should be saying we are hungry and it is time to boost the blood sugar a little bit. But also if I can keep in mind that all meters have a variances of +/- 20% in reality her readings haven't changed much all night. Nice thing about DH out with the band tonight is that I can stay up with her to watch her and she should be started back up long before he gets home and wound down enough to want to go to bed..so I will be able to make sure she is on her way up before during in for a little shut-eye myself.

No, Eva, there is never a dull moment with Musette but as my DH pointed out to me the other night, when I was getting frustrated with her in those high numbers...You started studying to become a vet tech because you wanted to work in rescue and eventually run a sanctuary for diabetic cats when we lost Muse, as well as what went wrong and why we lost her the way we did. Then we adopted Maxwell, and you got cocky and thought you had figured out how to dance with a Sugarcat, but all Maxwell did was give you the confidence that you could hit the dance floor and not trip over your own two feet...then comes Musette and she is teaching you what it really means to dance...She has taught and is teaching you to Waltz, Two-Step, Cha-Cha, Salsa, and Foxtrot...lol But you know he's right...Maxwell taught me how to put on my dancing shoes and walk out onto the dance floor...Musette is teaching me to dance, how to truly read my dance partner by not only knowing the steps progression but how to watch my dance partner for those subtle lead changes in the their body language and eyes. And I couldn't have asked for two better sugarcats to drive home the point into my stubborn brain that every cat is different...Maxwell and Musette are as different as day and night...He is big, tall, powerful Maine Coon mix with a laid back easy going personality that sauntered easily into remission...she is a petite little purebred himalayan girl with Tortie-tude in spades, who has a flare for the dramatic in everything...little things upset her and piss her off, and she will haul off and slap you or growl at you. And she is going to make me dance my tail off to get her into remission if and when she gets there, which she may or may not, but she will at the very least made me learn to dance in my sleep because we have rehearsed it so much...lol

Good Morning, Mel and Musette ~

So beautiful to read: "Then we adopted Maxwell, and you got cocky and thought you had figured out how to dance with a Sugarcat, but all Maxwell did was give you the confidence that you could hit the dance floor and not trip over your own two feet...then comes Musette and she is teaching you what it really means to dance...She has taught and is teaching you to Waltz, Two-Step, Cha-Cha, Salsa, and Foxtrot...lol But you know he's right...Maxwell taught me how to put on my dancing shoes and walk out onto the dance floor...Musette is teaching me to dance, how to truly read my dance partner by not only knowing the steps progression but how to watch my dance partner for those subtle lead changes in the their body language and eyes."

Mel, you really might need to write a book about cats...maybe sugarcats...one of these days. You totally captivate me with your writing!

Enjoy the day,
Eva
