Morning LL--I was up almost all night with Moonie who threw up & was sick again..she threw up twice & was upset & not feeling well-she also ate almost NO dinner...Fell asleep & by midnight when I woke & saw she didnt eat at all & pukus, I started to worry-Came on here & gave her a pepcid (from her ER experience) in a pill pocket...Took hours to work, but in meantime I tried other foods, canned chicken in broth, & then
cooked her some plain chicken, and that she ate-Guess she just likes Mom beans cooking :?

I was so worried, as this was the experience we had before ER, but this time no liquipoo (whew!)
So I slept maybe 3-4 hrs & woke up to find she had nibbled the food from last nite--She seems fine today & ate some breffis--I will be watching her & will give her another Pepcid later.
I dont know what causes these things but am so thankful for pepcid--What is the store pepcid _pepcid ac??
and what is dose --Vet sent me home with prescription famotidine & it's great--maybe my vet will give them..Hope she will improve as the day goes on. Took a drop off her dose today, we dont need any 40's!!

Thanks to my LL family who were there for me so late last night-DD,Melissa,MJ,julie,Marje,Thanks for being up & helping!! Prayers for all ailing kitties to fell better by today. Special Hugs & Love from us!!

Re: 1/21 Moonie AMPS 214 better & eating

awww, poor moonie! i'm happy to hear she appears to be feeling better this morning.
pepcid AC is what you want. my vet told me to give 1/4 of a 10mg tab every 12 hours.

hope she's over whatever this is quickly...
sending hugs and healing vines.

Re: 1/21 Moonie AMPS 214 better & eating

oh wow Roni, what a night for you. So sorry Moonie wasn't feeling well. I'm glad that things are better this morning. Yay for pepcid - I'm glad it is helping. I believe the dose is 1/4 tablet, not sure as I've never had to use it. Be will Moonie!

Re: 1/21 Moonie AMPS 214 better & eating

Hi Roni, I was up at 2 am catching up with Moonie's yesterday condo and saw that Moonie was sick, and I can see why it scared you. So glad she's feeling better. Hope you can get some rest today. Hugs and scritches to you and Moonie, the scritchies to Moonie, :-D !
Sometimes the kitties will eat a little of the Beechnut Stage 1 or 2 chicken with broth bf.

Re: 1/21 Moonie AMPS 214 better & eating

Roni, I know how scared you must have been. Poor Moonie! Glad the pepcid is helping. The pepcid always works well with Simon. Make sure you get the regular strength Pepcid 10 mg and not extra strength. You can also buy the generic which is cheaper...famotodine 10 mg. Works just as well. I give 1/4 of a tablet 2x/day when Simon's stomach is really not feeling well.

Lots of hugs and healing thoughts to Moonie today.

Re: 1/21 Moonie AMPS 214 better & eating

Hi Roni, I'm so sorry to hear that Moonie wasn't feeling well last night and I hope that she'll be all better today. Sorry I missed you last night. You can always try baby food (the meat and broth kind with no onions in the broth) if you don't have a chicken in the house to cook. I believe that the Pepcid A/C (original; famotidine tablets 10 mg; normal strength) is what you want to get to have on hand. The dose is 1/4 of a tablet. Moonie, feel better. The KTSS will be along later with some chicken soup. Rusty is cooking up a pot right now.

Healing vines for Moonie! Lots of BIG HUGS for you, Roni!

Ella & Rusty

I am so sorry to hear about Moonie and your late evening last night. I am guessing you are beat this morning! Glad to hear she is at least eating and feeling somewhat better. I think a nice nap is the order of the day for both of you. Rest and feel better you guys!

Re: 1/21 Moonie AMPS 214,+3~163 better & eating

I can imagine how scared you must have been last night Roni. It sounds like the pepcid is working it's magic, sometimes I'll give it to Leo when he's not eating all that great and an hour later voila! he starts eating. I hope whatever was bothering Moonie has passed and she starts feeling better ASAP! I bet last night earned you a few more grey hairs huh?

I hope you ladies have a great day.

Re: 1/21 Moonie AMPS 214,+3~163 better & eating

I'm glad the scare seems to be over. Be well Moonie. Keep eating your good fuds and feel better.

Re: 1/21 Moonie AMPS 214,+3~163 better & eating

Made an appt at our vet for next Thursday--I would like her to give Moonie a more thorough T4 test(think it's a Free T3 or 4 test)--Just to be sure this isnt hyper T starting up.. and to check her over..
I have given her 1/2 famotidine(that's what er vet prescribed) but would rather give 1/4 twice a day, and will have my vet prescribe this for her--I once tried to get pepcid ac all around here, but they dont have it??
It was 15 days since the ER visit, and also, she was eating hc yesterday-dont know if there is any connection, so let vet check her all out.
She is sleeping on the warm heated floor in her office  -Hey she is comfy--
I do get so frightened when she gets sick, and she is quite dramatic
But she did seem sick..Thanks for any suggestions & help...will check her at +6
Tomorrow we have a show in nyc in afternoon, we'll see if we can do lunch depending on how she is--

Re: 1/21 Moonie AMPS 214,+3~163 better & eating

Lots of healing vines for Moonie and big, longs hugs for you Roni.

Good idea to take her to the vetty...just to rule out other medical conditions.

Hopefully she'll start feeling better soon.

Re: 1/21 Moonie AMPS 214,+3~163 better & eating

Good morning, guys! So sorry Moonie had such a night last night! You must have been so worried! On the Pepcid, Walmart makes the 10mg pills under their Equate brand and they sell a 90 ct. bottle for under $10, which should last you quite some time! It looks like it is available in your area.

Sending hugs and love to you and Moonie both! Fingers and paws crossed for the vet visit on Thursday!

Re: 1/21 Moonie AMPS 214,+3~163 better & eating

Glad Moonie is feeling better today! Good idea on the vetty visit. I hope you both get some rest today!

Re: 1/21 Moonie AMPS 214,+3~163,+6~189 better-ate

Happily bouncing Moonie has eaten & now is sleeping in my shoe basket
I couldnt find her anywhere, suddenly, out she comes! She is a riot!!..So glad she is OK!

Re: 1/21 Moonie AMPS 214,+3~163,+6~189 better-ate

I'm so glad Moonie is much better. I know how worried she makes you...she makes all of us worried when she doesn't feel good.

Can you check and see what the strength is of the famotidine the vet gave you? Pepcid ac is famotidine. Jill is right that the dose should be 1/4 of a 10 mg pepcid AC (not pepcid complete) twice a day. So it would be interesting to see
what the mg are on the pills the vet gave you.

I hope she feels better and better. Glad you will get her in this week. Sending you both hugs.

Re: 1/21 Moonie AMPS 214,+3~163,+6~189 better-ate

Roni, I'm so sorry Moonie was sick last night! I'm glad she's feeling better today.

To confirm what others have already said, we give Mookie 1/4 of a 10mg tablet of famotidine daily for his acid tummy. I buy a generic famotidine because it's the same as but cheaper than Pepcid AC. I think the last time I bought it I got it at Rite Aid pharmacy, but I've also seen it at Walgreens and the grocery store.

I hope you can get in a nap today or have an early night tonight. :YMHUG:

Re: 1/21 Moonie AMPS 214,+3~163,+6~189 better-ate

Famotidine is the generic for Pepsid AC. The typical dose for a cat is 1/4 of a 10 mg tablet twice a day, as others have suggested. You can give a max dose of 1/2 of a 10 mg tablet twice a day but I don't know if I'd be comfortable doing this for too long without checking in with a vet. You should be able to find famotidine at most pharmacies.

(The injectible form of famotidine is back ordered and in very short supply nationally. The tablet form is readily available.)

Did you need to work at getting Moonie's dose up from the 40 yesterday?

Re: 1/21 Moonie PMPS 155

She slept a good part of the day & evening--she just ate about 1/4 can ff chicken feast & is now napping--
Hope she doesnt go low tonite-
I think i will go back to the elegant medleys MC if she does..Maybe that HC was too much for her tummy? the HC did bring her up, but Moonie likes to drop a little again before her nadir!

Sienne- it was not hard trying to get her up yesterday. It is keeping her up....It is usually easy, but since the last er event I cut back on the temptations in case they were aggravating her.Hope tonite will be quiet!

The vet at Er gave me 10 mg & they cut them in half & said to give one 1/2 tab. once a day--
Tomorrow I will cut in half again & do it twice..I will look in local pharmacies for the pills-
Thanks for the info--Everyone here slept, I didnt!

Re: 1/21 Moonie PMPS 155

Hi again, Roni,
I'm glad that Moonie is feeling better. It's good that you made the appt. with the vet for next week. It will set your mind at ease. The two main tests for Hyper T are the T4 and the Free T4. I think the T3 isn't always done, but I don't really know why. I do know that Stu was required to have the T4 and the Free T4.

Have a great time at the show tomorrow in the City, and I hope you will stay and have dinner out. How's the snowstorm? We didn't get any of that coastal storm (but on Monday we're supposed to get the warm weather behind it).

Get some good sleep tonight!

Big hugs,

Ella & Rusty

Re: 1/21 Moonie PMPS 155

I'm so glad to hear that Moonie is feeling better now. What a night for you - I can imagine how scary it was to see her sick again! Definitely a good idea to have the vet check things out, but hopefully the HC was just to rich for her tummy.

Have a relaxing and restful evening tonight!

Amy
