Yesterday

Wow, Mally's AMPS took me by surprise this morning. Last night's PMPS +3 taken at midnight was 149. I left out plenty of food for overnight, and this morning there was just a little bit left in one bowl. I do have three other cats besides Mally so I set out four bowls for their late night light meal.

Obviously I'm not going to shoot at this number. I haven't fed anyone yet so I'll wait a bit and test Mally again to see if she is going up.

With such a low AMPS, I wonder what her numbers were during the night.

Wow, you got fast action from that dosecrease! Hope it gives you a nice surf today...what a blessing you are home to watch! haha_smiley

Just tested her again and she's going up. She's now at 133.

AMPS - 8:38 AM - 117
Test - 8:59 AM - 133

Feed and shoot?

Sienne, yes, I'm home all day. I work from home so testing is never an issue. Don't have any errands to run so we're set for the day.

I'll feed, shoot, and test in an hour. Her AM shot will only be delayed by a few minutes.

Cats and dogs are getting antsy and want to eat so I'll be back after feeding. :smile:

Cats and dogs fed, Mally got her shot, spreadsheet updated, and now I can have some more coffee!

WCR (a little late) - Mally seemed just fine this morning. She curled up next to me when last night I went to bed around 1:30 AM, which is normal for her. She was sitting next to me waiting when the alarm went off so she must have wanted fresh food. There was a little bit left in one of the bowls when I woke up from the late night meal, so I know she had food if she needed it between 1:30 AM and 8:30 AM. I tested her first thing when I got up and then she waited for the normal routine. She ate well this morning and there is still food in the bowls in case she needs to snack. She got her shot while she was eating.

Um, Ronnie, I've only been here for a short time but after reading a lot of condos, I know how much you like your poke fests! :mrgreen:

Up a little bit more at +1, but then she just ate an hour ago so I expected the rise in numbers.

She usually takes a snooze after the morning routine, but today she's been hanging around the food bowls. She's eating a bit right now. She didn't finish the whole can at breakfast, which is normal for her and the rest of the cats, so she has some food to snack on when she needs it.

I'll test again at +2.

Just did her +2 and she's down just a bit.

Unless suggested otherwise, I'll do another test again at +4.

Hi! Havent been in your condo yet, but saw your numbers & have to tell you, your cat is doing great!! Wonder numbers for a few months here..
Mally is looking great--Good Job!--+4 is great!

Still in the blue at +5 and that's just fine with me. I'll grab a +6 and then run out to Wally World for a few things that I need. After doing an inventory on test strips, I decided to go out and get some more so I have a full pack on hand. :smile:

I decided to do Mally's +6 on her paw pad to give her ears a break. I did the test and got a reading of 189. Then I immediately did the test on her ear just to see if there would be a different number - and there was. The ear test gave me a reading of 161 and that was her being a bit annoyed at having two tests done at once. She was trying very hard to escape after the test on her paw pad.

Anyone know why the difference?

Different blood samples can give different readings, and as long as they are within 20% of one another then that is fine. No worries - whichever is easiest for you and Mally.

How did it work on the paw pad? Where do you do it? I have heard of doing it on the paw pad, but I haven't seen any information showing how it is done.

If I test on Mally's pads, I test on one of the big pads. I warm it with the rice sock and massage it a little bit before I poke. A bit harder for me to get her pads to bleed, but sometimes I like to give her ears a break.

I have to switch glucose meters. :evil:

Went to Walmart to pick up more test strips for my ReliOn Micro and they don't have any in stock. When I bought the meter, they only had one box of strips on the shelf so I bought those. When I went back another time, again, they only had one box on the shelf so I bought those to have on hand. Went today because I'm low on strips and no Micro strips and, they told me if I want to order them ahead of time, it'll take a few days to get them. I'll just keep the ReliOn Micro as a back up meter and if they ever get the strips in stock again, I'll pick up a box. But, since I can't depend on Walmart to keep the strips in stock, I went out and bought a new meter.

I ran down to CVS and bought a OneTouch Ultra Mini. The meter was only $20.00, but the strips were a bit high. Then again, CVS is always higher. Since I didn't feel like running around town, I bought a box of strips at CVS that will hold me over for a while.

My daughter, bless her soul, volunteered to prick her finger so I could see the difference in numbers between the two meters. She had enough blood for me to test both meters from the one test site. The ReliOn was at 117 and the OneTouch was at 103.

I'll use the new meter for Mally's PMPS since I'll be starting a new cycle.

lol!! hey now...none of that "poking" fun at me LOL!!

can't trust Walmart to keep anything in stock! I have the same trouble up here!

Check on Amazon or Ebay for strips. Some others may have suggestions for some other sources. The prices at a pharmacy are outrageous. It costs over double for a box of 25 strips at Walgreens than what I pay on Amazon for a box of 50.

You're right about the pharmacies, Sienne! Especially CVS - they're always higher than anyone else around here. Good thing I have Amazon Prime for shipping since it looks like I'll be getting some strips there.

After such a good part of the day in the blues, Mally went up to yellow and now pink. The bowls are out so she could have eaten when I wasn't looking. We'll see what tonight brings. :smile:

Edited to add - I did start this cycle with the new meter.
 
I'm confused. Why so high tonight after such a low day?

I double checked the two meters again (on myself) after making sure the new one was coded properly and they both gave me the exact same reading. So, I don't think the numbers have anything to do with switching meters.

I'll test once more before we go do bed and then see how Mally is doing in the morning.
 
I'm going to take a guess here and say that because Mally started the day so low, her numbers were probably even lower while we were sleeping - possibly in the green. She did well most of the day staying in the blues, but maybe these higher numbers are just her bouncing a bit. I'm not experienced enough to say this is what is happening - I'm just putting my thoughts out there.

I guess we'll just have to let this new dose settle in and see how it plays out.
