Happy Monday. Sending lots of prayers and healing vines to all who need them and special dental vetty vines for JD today. Hope Moonie, Mannie, Noni, Bubba, Boots, Do Lou are all feeling better today.

Well...we wanted flat and flat we got ;-) Guess Gracie didn't get the "flat blue" memo. I'm certain we will end up taking her dose back up but just want to try and break that diving stuff she was doing and give her a chance to let us know if it could possibly have been due to too much insulin since we dropped some meds. She's been doing fine....happy, purry. When I went to bed last night, she was lying next to me and when Mike came home, he moved her and she left. I woke up a couple hours later and she was curled up in my arms and I have no memory whatsoever of her coming in and doing that! And she always chirps to let me know she is there. Mamabean was out like a light. So we had a lovely snuggle for the rest of the night until time to get up and test/feed/shoot.

Hmmm Gracie - I think I've heard Marje refer to a cycle like today as "flat yellow nonsense".... take care :lol:

So cute, snuggle time. Neither of my kitties are snugglers, but Smokey tolerates it for a minute or two and then she is ready to move to her own spot on the bed, LOL.

How long will you need to "settle" this reduction, and in what way will Gracie let you know if she had been getting too much?

I've been watching this so called rebound check with interest since I wonder about Chip, if his harsh pink might be from not taking *enough* reductions in a timely manner.

Guess I spend too much time comparing to Alex and Lucy, trying to figure out where I should be going with this. ;-)

Of course Jill doesn't have to pop in to remind you to test for ketones daily (if not more often) most especially when Gracie is high like this. When last I tried the so called rebound check with Chip it ended on about day three when I thought I saw pink on the ketone test strip. Ever since I've been leary about experimenting with unearned reductions, and perhaps even too cautious about legitimate reductions.

This has been a strange pattern with Gracie having both peaks and dives occurring at around +3. The dives at that point don't seem typical for Levemir, if not from overlap? But I was wondering what would happen if Levemir doesn't bind *normally* to albumin for some reason. I suppose it might end up available in the blood immediately in such case?

Alas... sometimes it seems the human depot insulin's seem to precipitate more of a counter-regulatory response than they are able to effectively and/or efficiently squelch. :?

I hope Gracie slides down and gives you some blue. That's so cute on the snuggles.

Yellow day always turns blue that night or in the morning!! Hope she comes on down real soon..

I don't let reductions "settle". If possible, I'd like to give her six cycles to see if she can clear the bounce from two back to back cycles of fast dives. If it looks like she's clearing and not getting down into normal numbers, I'll take her up. Tonight is four cycles.

I want to be clear that I am not a fan of rebound checks and the only reason I am doing this is because I wondered if the meds had been keeping her BGs higher and once I stopped them, the dose was too much and making her dive because she has not historically been a diver on lev. She did it one other time and it was ten days into an A/B so we took her down then, too. You know Chip better than I do but I did have a situation where I did not take "enough" of a reduction and even missed one or two and what happened then was the depot got way ahead of me and we couldn't keep her out of the 20s/30s. Even then, I didn't get a huge bounc

No....she doesn't have to ;-) Actually, I did check her ketones this morning and do when she is a little higher. Thanks for mentioning it because I forgot to put it on her SS. I understand your concerns and I watch her closely when she's flat yellow like this and make sure she gets plenty of water. The other thing is, while I backed her dose down, I only backed it down about .2u, if that. And I don't plan on letting her stay here more than through tomorrow at the most. I am also leary about experimenting with unearned reductions but I am just trying to get flat again and hopefully break that pattern a bit. She started doing the early, fast dives on f1u and so I thought I would take her up and hope that more insulin might smooth it all out. But it made it worse. Would raising her by .25ml work? Maybe....so if I take her back up, it will be by that much.

It is a very strange pattern. Her "normal" lev curve is also strange. It seems that because of carryover, her lowest time is often at +3 which is probably really +15 from the previous shot. Then she comes up mid cycle and then down again towards +8 or +9. I've looked at her SS every way I can to figure out if she's onsetting early but even when she was just about tightly regulated, she was doing the same thing.....up midcycle, and then down from +8+9 to +15/+16. Bizarre unless it is all carryover with a bit of overlap. Early dives are tough to figure out. I do know Alex has done it before. And your question about the albumin is an interesting one and beyond what I know of it. Mike and I have wracked our brains....

I dunno. But I do know when I have her dose at the highest she's ever been, she bounces only into blue. But it is a difficult thing to keep her that high and be testing and feeding so much. I think her pancreas often decided to produce endogenous insulin and she'd be surfing along nice and flat and then dip down for no apparent reason.....unless it is as Sienne says, "because she is a cat".

Gracie is looking better. Maybe she'll pay attention to that flat blue memo tonight.

Hi Marje. Nice to see Gracie dropped to the blue zone. You will eventually narrow the dose to the right amount to get Gracie where you want her.

It's something how they can creep up and snuggle in without waking us. On the other hand they know how to use their charm to wake us in a matter that makes it impossible to get upset when they want something. In that aspect ECITS....every cat is the same. :lol: :lol: :lol:

I believe that is what I'm going to try next. The full 0.25 U increase.

That seems to be what Jill does when Alex is anything but nearly perfectly regulated... as opposed to nudging?

More on all this, perhaps in later condos. :smile:
