Huzzah!! The trend continues!

He was a bad kitty overnight and ate some plastic off the water bottle... box thing covered in plastic. Which caused him to throw it up. Oy. Other than that I'm pretty happy with him and his numbers.

AMBG 79 -- Beautiful #, Sabrina! Way to go, Hobbs!

I've heard that it's something with the production of it involves some kind of fish oil which they can smell with their super sniffers and I guess they like the taste of it.

Re: 1/20 Hobbs AMBG 79

First off, I forgot to mention I asked about Hobbs' "ideal" weight at the vet last night. She said he should be around 12lbs but that once we get him regulated and all, then we can work on his weight.

Second, I wanted to ask some clarification on a few terms. Let me start by saying that I am in no way suggesting that Hobbs could be headed towards this because I do not want to jinx him. Once I changed the ringtone on my phone to "Go Cubs Go" and the season which had been going well until that point, started to tank. Then just recently I changed my Facebook profile photo to me dressed up as a Super Fan (from Saturday Night Live). The Bears won 5 games in a row. I remarked on this streak and how it related to my changed photo, and Jay Cutler got injured, ending his season, and the Bears went on to lose all but 2 of the rest of their games. So. NO JINXING HERE. That all said, salt thrown over shoulders, wood being knocked on, could someone please explain to me what exactly is a "Honeymoon" (as it relates to FD), "OTJ" "Surf" and "Remission." I want to make sure I am clear. :-)

Honeymoon, OTJ (Off the Juice) & Remission all mean the same thing...A diet controlled diabetic. Surf is what Musette did yesterday, she found a number range she liked and stayed there for awhile..so she was surfing the blue numbers yesterday.

I'm not sure your vet quite gets regulated...I would say Hobbs past regulated awhile ago when he started hitting those double digits and is much closer to OTJ well in fact he is OTJ since you aren't giving him insulin right now...If he holds normal numbers (40-120 on a human meter) with most of those in the double digits for 2 weeks then we throw him a party here and officially declare him in remission...headed to the falls a.k.a on his honeymoon,...OTJ ...or diet controlled take your pick. :-D

OK the first day he was 120 or under was the 18th (Wednesday) so IF he stays between 40-120 until and including February 1, he's officially OTJ? Party on Groundhog Day then?

Yeppers two weeks of no insulin and in normal numbers is an OTJ party...and we trot out all the party hats. But just remember once a diabetic always a diabetic, so he can never go back to the high carb dry foods or foods with gravy etc. Maxwell has been OTJ for over a year and I still test him twice a month just to keep an eye on him, because other things like bad teeth or infection can always throw him out of remission. Some cats will go out of remission for no apparent reason as well, and have to go back on the juice so it is always a good idea to at least get spot checks on them from time to time or if they just seem off for any reason. Like the other day Maxwell just wasn't acting like himself so out came the meter, thankfully he tested in the 90s which is high for him, then about an hour after I tested him, he hacked up this huge hairball..tested him again that evening and he was back down to his normal range in the 60s...lol Apparently the discomfort of that hairball had elevated his bloodsugar, once he got it out he was right as rain again.

Re: 1/20 Hobbs AMBG 79

Hobbs really needs a cleaning, I just haven't had the cash for it. Though I hear that some vets will do a discount during Pet Dental Health month which is February. So if mine does it, I might do it then. Unless that's going to totally screw him up. Anyone know? Also, should my vet do it or is it OK to shop around for it? It makes me nervous to take him somewhere else that doesn't know his history since he has to be under for it.

Re: 1/20 Hobbs AMBG 79

Usually getting the teeth cleaned and any extractions done help get them regulated or even completely off the juice, that is why we are looking at getting Musette's done here fairly soon..She has needed it since I adopted her but since she was abandon after 11 years by her first owners I didn't want to put her thorough it until she knew she was safe and loved again, since the way my vet does dentals most of the time is have you drop them off the night before so they can do them before they get busy in the mornings.

But I have since talked to my vet and we are going to work it so I can bring her in before they open on the day of her dental and stay with her until she is ready to go under, then I'm going to wait at the clinic until she is done and go sit with her until she wakes up...I get to get away with this kind of thing because I work for them part time as kennel help and because they know I am in school for Vet Tech...lol

It would really depend on if your vet does dentals and how comfortable you are with them doing it. I'm with you though I would rather have someone that knows my cat and like with Musette that knows enough of her history to make allowances for what is best not only for her physical well-being but her mental health as well.

I was a little worried that being on 2 meals/day vs 4 meals/day would raise Hobbs up but he's doing OK. Tomorrow is the curve and the last day of 2 meals/day, I'm going to switch him back to 4 on Monday. I think it's better for him overall and I just bought this auto feeder and only used it twice!! LOL
