Good morning LL! Zener is doing ok this morning. His tummy seems to be a little uncomfortable. He didn't want his normal FF Chicken Florentine breakfast but he did want ProPlan chicken. Phe! He went outside for just a bit, but no picnic and no yard patrol. He just seems a little restless. I've done a little tummy massage so we'll see if that helps.

Thank you, everyone, for your kind words and advice, especially these past few days. It has helped tremendously to draw on your experience and expertise while we consider our options with our guy. And our vet has been great, knowing that we will turn to you for input. :-D :-D

I am trying to upload the picture of his bare belly but not having any luck. Maybe I'll try another browser.

Thinking of Lyresa today as she helps her civie Sir Scruffy cross. Healing vines to Mannie, Do Lou, Noni, and Moonie.

Re: 1/19 Zener AMPS 128;+2 148

Morning Liz, nice blues for Zener, and sending tummy and appy vines. I remember that smell of the ProPlan! I bet the massage feels so good. I can't wait to see his bare belly Zener. Ohh Zener, maybe wait til it warms up before another yard patrol. Is it still cold? Have a nice day.

Re: 1/19 Zener AMPS 128;+2 148

I hope Zener's tummy feels better soon. He has a nice blue surf going today. I hope you can get the picture uploaded.

Awwww, I wanna stroke that warm, cute bare belly. cat_pet_icon I bet Zener likes that exposed tummy being massaged.

Zener, buddy, I hopes you're tummy feels better, and you want to eat they yummy fud your mamabeans give you. Don't accept the first thing you're offered, tho. Make them open 5 cans first.

Re: 1/19 Zener AMPS 128;+2 148;+4.5 128;+7 160 bare belly pi

Z Man, your belly looks great! You can go to the parties disguised as a tuxedo cat (sort of!). Don't go outside without your sweater!

Hi Liz & Anne, I'm glad that some of the food offerings appealed to Zener today. When Rusty is lukewarm about his Wellness, I just give him proportionally more FF T&G because he always likes that.

Sending good-eating vines along with all the other vines. Thinking of you all,

Hugs,

Ella & Rusty

Re: 1/19 Zener AMPS 128;+2 148;+4.5 128;+7 160 bare belly pi

The big guy is having a little bit of a restless day, but he has been out for yard patrol and sitting in his favorite spots watching birds, staring at the compost bin and soaking up the sun. It's almost 40 degrees F here today! We have been using a homeopathic liquid called Kidney Support Gold for about a week, plus adding lots more water to his fuds, and his water consumption seems to be more stable, and his peeing maybe a little decreased. Has anyone here used that liquid support before?

We have stopped giving him fancy feast chunky chicken because of high phosphorus, though it was the only low carb food he would eat. Still trying some of the others but so far, a big NO "are you trying to poison me" on the wellness core choices and the little friskies turkey & giblets. We have a few more options to try, just got to get to the right pet store to buy a few trial cans. He is consistently eating Fancy Feast Chicken Florentine (med carbs and med phosphorus) and the purina pro plan urinary formula (med carbs, low phosphorus), so we may have to trade more carbs for lower phosphorus until we can find a lower carb, lower phosphorus food he will eat. It's a reoccurrence of bean PTSD from trying to find wet food he would eat instead of kibble almost two years ago!

We also sent the latest bloodwork and ultrasound information to our AC. She is a human nurse practitioner and can translate much of the medical & labs for us. She will also check in with Zener about our plans and see what he has to say about it, if anything. In our most recent checkin he was feeling good, more energy and a happy guy. And that's much more important than any numbers!

@Ann & Maggie - thanks for the tummy and appy vines! You are so right about the ProPlan aroma. I've gotten much better at mouth breathing at kitty meal times! Our temps have warmed up to our winter normals - 40s F highs and teens lows. Snow is melting and muddy paddy paws are a regular occurrence on our tile floors. Since our recent health news from the vet, we are less quick to clean them up, like to see our big guy's footprints around.

@carla - he seems to have more tummy troubles in the morning until late morning or mid-day, the massage definitely helps. Picture is up and Liz has a few more she will post soon.

@Michelle & Scrabble - isn't that bare belly just the cutest, it doesn't bother the mighty Z one little bit. He is such a trooper! We had a nice meeting with our vet yesterday, she spent over 30 minutes with us discussing all our options, pros and cons and didn't charge us a penny. We have a plan for now and a plan for the next stages as things change. We feel much better knowing we have a plan and so much support from our LL aunties and our wonderful vet. Zener is just fine with whatever we want to do, as long is it involves "more petting and less worry"!

@Tara & Buster - awwwww, we think he is handsome too. ;-)

@julie & punkin - thanks for checking up on our guy. We keep checking on punkin too. You know oh too well about those unknowns hanging over furry and bean heads. We so appreciate you being here for us. We are sending the same scritches, hugs and love back to you and our punkin (well, the scritches are for punkin).

@Barb & Checkers - Zener would love for you to stroke his warm bare belly. He has always loved to have his belly rubbed. The vet says he doesn't mind the u/s at all, since she is rubbing his belly all over for it.
Hey Checkers, you gets your bean to open five cans? Wow, you are my role model. I can sometimes manage two, but I'm pretty picky. - Zener

@Ella & Rusty - thanks for the tip on mixing the fuds! We should try that with some of the new fuds and see if he will go for it.

It seems like a sad Saturday Caturday in LL with the passing of several beloved kitties, and so many health issues going on recently. I am looking forward to better news and a new OTJ video soon. Thank you everyone for all your support as we get our heads around all we are learning to balance with our special guy. We couldn't do it without you.

Awww....love the pic of Zener and his bare belly, looking so sweet! I think that's cool with the muddy paddy paws on the tile. I would leave them, too.
Mags thanks the Professors for the poo award. :-D

Zener looks so cute with the bare belly. He looks so happy in that picture.

Re: 1/19 Zener AMPS 128;+2 148;+4.5 128;+7 160 bare belly pi

I want to give that belly some raspberries!!

I just read over yesterdays vetty report, sounds like you have an amazing and very understanding vet. I hope you can get some good information out of Terri about how Zener is feeling.

Have a great evening!

Re: 1/19 Zener AMPS 128;+2 148;+4.5 128;+7 160 bare belly pi

That belly looks like it would make a purrfect pillow for a nice cuddle. His fur (where he has it) look so thick and shiny. He's looking good, and so are his numbers today.

Re: 1/19 Zener PMPS 230 bare belly pic

Happier appy tonight, though a little chasing needed. Once Zener got his poo on in his outdoor sandbox, he was much more focused on eating.

@Ann & Maggie - the January thaw in our backyard leads to muddy paddypath paths in our house. You are so welcome for the poo award, I think we need to dash off to Moonie's condo and present a 2nd award today!

@carla - Zener is such a happy guy, he takes everything in stride and has the best cattitude! At the moment, he is chasing our civvie Tillie around the house.

@rhiannon and shadow - his fur is very soft and so is his belly baby skin.

@Tracy & Leo - we think a raspberry on Zener's belly might even be beyond his amazing tolerance for most things. Our vet is the owner of the largest practice in town and the only one with evening and weekend urgent care hours as well as appointments and 24 hour emergency. We switched there shortly after Zener's FD when our vet at the time had reached the end of her diabetes knowledge, and we thought it best to get set up where we might need to go on weekends or if an emergency. We live in a fairly small town and are so grateful for our vet who believes in the team approach - the patient, the caregivers, the vet and the best available evidence. :-D Teri will check in with us in a few days, she always has something interesting from the kitties and is so right on!

@Wendy & Neko - his belly is so soft and so warm! His fur is very fine, but also quite shiny right now and it looks thicker with his winter coat. He is looking very good despite all that seems to be going on. Today was likely his blue, post-green cycle and it is often the 2nd cycle after green where we see bounce numbers. We hope that means Mr Liver is less anxious. :?

Wishing all in LL tonight an evening full of purrs, cuddles and scritches.

Re: 1/19 Zener PMPS 230 bare belly pic

Wha a sweet bald belly there!!! I'm so glad his appy turned happy this evening...after "getting his poo on" ...only in LL!

Have a great evening, guys!

Re: 1/19 Zener PMPS 230 bare belly pic

Awww....what a cute belly. It sounds like Zener started feeling better this afternoon. I hope he has a good evening, as well. Did you think to send the ingredients of the kidney support stuff to your AC? If she's a nurse, she may have some thoughts about it.

No, we didn't think of that. We will do so, it is usually a few days after we email her that she gets in touch and sets up a time to check in with the kitties. Zener has a pattern of feeling better in the afternoon and evening lately. It seems he has more tummy cramping in the morning, and it eases as the day goes on. Despite that bare belly, he did a long yard patrol tonight and had several picnics!

@Amy & TrixieCat - Zener gave us a happy crap dash after his sand box play!

I made a trip to Target today and bought a new larger pee palace. Once I got the accessible opening cut for Zener, Tillie went right in to give it her pee seal of approval.

Re: 1/19 Zener PMPS 230;+2.5 301 bare belly pic

In Hongkong we use a few Chinese herbal for our older civvies with kidney or liver issue. Can get you those names if interested. Some pet owners swear the supplement is helping but I have been more conservative with using it unless real necessary. Ive been giving Tiger a pill everyday hoping my little man can maintain his kidney function. His BW nine months ago has been marginal; los of pee though. This has been given over 2 weeks but so far I see no improvement but supplements are mostly herbal & low dosage, might need longer time to work.
If you suspect Zener's tummy cramp happens mostly in the morning, Chinese med believe that each of our internal organ respond to specific time of the day. The early morning 5am is the time when the digestive organ, intestine starts working. Maybe giving Zener a warm blanket or hot water bottle over the night might help?

Hey Anne and Liz

What an adorable belly! I hope he's not too cold!m glad his appy picked up. I haven't used that remedy before but I hope it works for him.

Sending healing vines.
