I just wanted to post a quick update tonight to let you all know Jupiter is doing pretty good. His appetite is really bad these past few days.... but he does seem to be feeling better in some ways... He has a new favorite toy (a pink worm from MJ - thanks MJ) and he goes crazy playing with it. Will be posting a video tomorrow of him playing with his toy! He runs and jumps with no problem! I cant even describe how much he loves his new toy.... Whenever I put it away he will howl because he wants it back!!! Hes addicted to his worm

Jupiters sister, Little Rosette has a pinkish eye goo. Shes had it for almost 2 weeks now. Going to call the vet tomorrow to see if they think she should be seen. She gets REALLY car sick and foams at the mouth the entire time. Jupiter doesnt do well in the car either.... but no where as bad as Little Rosette.

For car rides.... what I would normally do is either... put her in a box without a top... or a basket with blankets.... and hold a washcloth by her mouth the whole time...

Im not sure if this is the best way to do it. Any other suggestions? And any suggestions how to make her more comfortable or possibly less nauseous during the car ride if she has to go to the vet tomorrow?

I also have some rescue remedy here that we used for Jupiter.... I was also planning to possibly try to use this for Rosette? Maybe it will help calm her during the car ride?

Lots of comforting thoughts and prayers for Deb&Spot. Her sweet Ralphie crossed the bridge today. Fly free Ralph
Vines for all kitties and beans in need
Lots and lots of vines for J.D.

Re: 1/19 Jupiter update & OT: car sick civie - suggestions?

China's a car-sick kitty too. When I had asked about it when she had an hour drive to get her dental done, they suggested the Rescue Remedy as well as completely covering the carrier. I don't know which one worked, but she made it there and back without vomiting for a change. She could only "see" out one side of the carrier, but I guess that was enough to confuse her brain and make her car-sick. When she had no way to look out, she did better.

Hope Little Rosette can get to the vet without too much nausea.

Glad to hear Jupiter is enjoying his toy! Look forward to seeing the video!!

Re: 1/19 Jupiter update & OT: car sick civie - suggestions?

My civvie Ginger drools as much as a Saint Bernard sometimes while traveling short distances in the car. On long trips I give her Rescue Remedy, and she doesn't drool, she just howls.
Good luck tomorrow at the vet.

Re: 1/19 Jupiter update & OT: car sick civie - suggestions?

Cerenia was developed for motion sickness. If you have any, that might help. If not, I'd definitely try the Rescue Remedy.

Re: 1/19 Jupiter update & OT: car sick civie - suggestions?

mine didn't get car sick, but anya definitely has anxiety riding in the car. she open mouth pants. i've used the Rescue Remedy and it seems to help a lot.

i'd love to see a video of Jupe playing with the new toy! What a great report on him! :-D

Re: 1/19 Jupiter update & OT: car sick civie - suggestions?

Good Luck Jamie. My civie Simon also gets car sick. I will have to try the rescue remedy myself. Now if they could come up with something to keep them from peeing in the carrier!

Re: 1/19 Jupiter update & OT: car sick civie - suggestions?

I'm glad Jupiter is doing well. I've heard about covering the carrier too so they can't see out. I get motion sickness and seeing things rushing by is what makes me feel nauseas.

Re: 1/19 Jupiter update & OT: car sick civie - suggestions?

I am glad to hear that Jupiter is well. My cat doesn't have motion sickness, but she doesn't like the car ride. My daughter gets motion sickness, when she closes her eyes it helps so I imagine the covered carrier helps with the nausea feeling.

Re: 1/19 Jupiter update & OT: car sick civie - suggestions?

Buster cries in the car and while she doesn't get sick, I unzip the top of the carrier and drive with one hand on wheel and the other in the carrier scratching her head, this seems to calm her or at least quiet her down. I don't necessarily suggest this, as it's not the safest way to drive.

I'd combine all the above suggestions and use the rescue remedy and cerenia (if you have) and pepcid (if don't have cerenia), putting in closed carrier and covering may help....

Re: 1/19 Jupiter update & OT: car sick civie - suggestions?

Hi Jamie,
I don't have any suggestions for carsickness. But I am very happy to hear that Jupiter is doing OK and hope that his appetite will improve soon. Sending vines for Rosette's eye condition and "eat-yer-fuds" vines to Jupe.

Hugs and scritches,

Ella & Rusty

question about rescue remedy

????The rescue remedy.... how much do you guys normally use and how much prior to the trip do you use this?

Re: 1/19 Jupiter update & OT: civie - RR - how much and when

I usually give it right after I put the cat in the carrier, before we leave the house. I put a drop on the top of each paw and some drops around the carrier (thinking they will smell it) and I give a couple drops in the mouth.

Sending good vet visit vines and easier than you expect car ride vines for Rosette.

Re: 1/19 Jupiter update & OT: civie - RR - how much and when

haha_smiley haha_smiley on the pink worm addiction! Hope he's back to normal today and hope all goes well with little Rosette at the vets!!!!

Re: 1/19 Jupiter update & OT: civie - RR - how much and when

when i first gave it to Anya, who weighs around 9lbs, i think i gave about a drop in some food. it pretty well sedated her - not knocking her out, but just hiding under the seat of the car. when i used it a couple of months ago after we got new kittens and she was being extremely aggressive, i went up in dose to about 4 drops.

the bottle instructions say to start by putting it on the paws or whiskers so they'll have to lick it off, then increase the dose if it's not effective enough.

you'll have to experiment on it.

i also get very carsick and it does help to close my eyes and not see the world buzzing by.

Re: 1/19 Jupiter update & OT: civie - RR - how much and when

Glad to hear Jupiter is doing well. Sending appy vines to help him eat his fuds. It's wonderful that he is feeling well enough to play like that. That always warms my heart. :-D

I definitely encourage you to get Rosette's eye checked out. With Cinco fresh off a diagnosis of Bartonella and blindness, I am using my 20/20 hindsight and wishing I had had his eyes checked sooner. Do not make the mistake I did, please!

One of my civvies, Sasha, gets sick within three or four minutes of pulling out of the driveway. I haven't found anything that helps (although not feeding her for several hours beforehand is a good idea), but I have Rescue Remedy on order, and I will try that, as well as covering the carrier.

Please let us know how Rosette does! Good luck.

VIDEO OF JUPITER!!!

Here is a video of Jupiter playing with his new favorite toy!!! Pink worm from MJ (thanks!!)

Although his appetite has been very poor.... you can see from the video he is feeling pretty good!!!

Nothing slows him down!! He may only have 3 legs now but he sure is fast!!

He loves this toy so much... when I take it away.... he meows and wants it back. He grows crazy every single time we get the toy out. (Cant let him have it when im not supervising cause I think he will chew it apart and I dont want his most favorite toy ever to be ruined)

Once again a big thank you to all here in LL for your kindness, support, & generosity. And a thank you to LLEF. You have all helped Jupiter along in his journey and he has come so far! Look at him now!!! :-D

Awww, so cute, and so awesome to see him play so well! Looks like your other kitty really wants to join in ;-) Sending appy vines to Jupe, I hope you have a great evening!

Hi Jamie,
Jupe is one amazing kitty! Such tremendous energy! I'm sure with all that running around he'll be hungry for his fuds soon.

Hugs and scritches,

Ella & Rusty

What fun!! Jupe is doing so great Jamie!

If you didn't know he'd lost a leg, you sure couldn't tell!!

Jupe..eat yer fuds and make your mamabean happier than she already is over your great recovery from so many setbacks!!

That video is amazing! It brings tears to my eyes when I look back on all you and Jupe have been through and the miracles it took to get him to where he is. There is a higher power at play here....and the hearts of your LL family.

wow - look at him play! what an awesome video!

i had to watch with the sound off because DH is watching tv, so maybe you said, but who is the kitter on the right?

so glad you figured out how to post the video. it's worth seeing. what a celebration of how far Jupiter has come.

How wonderful to see Jupiter so active and having fun. The other kitty looked like he/she wanted to join in, but knew this was Jupe's special toy. Sending good appy vines to Jupiter so he can refuel for the next match with the pink worm! Go, Jupiter! :-D

It is so wonderful to see Jupiter feeling well and playing. It must make you feel so good. That should give him more of an appetite. Sending prayers for more eating.

Jamie, thanks for sharing the video of Jupiter. Loved it! So glad he's feeling better. Sending better appy vines.

Thank you all so much for your continued support. So glad that you all loved the video!! His appetite is still really poor. Im not really sure why though.
