ECID (every cat is different) when it comes to how they respond to various stresses and ailments. As Wendy mentioned, our Trixie actually went into remission due to a severe case of p-titis, which you wouldn't expect, but that's part of the ECID thing.
As Wendy asked, what is Spike eating? And aside from the rhinitis, how is he feeling? I see he has asthma; that will certainly affect his BGs, too. Is he eating well? Being social? Peeing, pooping, preening? It's hard to remember that the numbers are just part of the big picture.
Vines and prayers...please keep us posted!
He is eating. Mostly because we are assisting him with syringe. Once we start eating, he is eager and willing. When he was in panc flare....we had to syringe him and he screamed about it and actually moaned. We thought we were going to lose him in December. We kept at it and he seemed to come out of it once we upped his bupe dosage. He was in pain. That saved his life though and I would do whatever it takes.
Yes, he has asthma, but mostly controlled. On lowest dose Flovent he can get. I don't think that's an issue.
I believe the rhinitis is the culprit right now. I have started him on the a/b tonight. Cefpodoxime. We hope to see some results. But it's usually not an infection...it's a chronic disease which only comfort care can be provided. The Doc at Cornell University suggested the A/B when it gets bad to see if it works. Usually he gets put in his carrier and hooked up to the vaporizer for about 20-30 minutes for his steam bath. Right now, I have the vaporizer and a steamer going in the bedroom.
He is not well. He is ill. He was in the emergency room over Christmas. Then the next night, another one of cats couldn't swallow, back to emergency room. Now, once he's back on insulin, he's sky-high. I could accept him going high until I got him back closer to his optimum dose, but not in the 400s. He dove fast once I increased his last dose (in December) that is why I started him low again.
He is eating LC wet mostly 95%, dry Y/A and some Origen mixed in. He hasn't been eating much dry. He is not socializing, preening, mixing. He is sleeping only. He is not well.
I wish I knew if this was his pancreas, his rhinitis, his diabetes; litter box is good. Stool is perfect. He just had an ultra sound in early December, nothing glaring. Frankly, I just don't get it. I am totally in the dark. I wish for once he could talk and tell me.
He is just not following any rhyme or reason. I will continue on with this dose, just increased today. See what happens. I'm really hoping the A/B will work some magic.
