Good Evening, L&LL,

Sorry to be late posting. I was hoping to have some news of Rusty's improvement. He did seem to be somewhat better this morning. He slept with us all night, but didn't eat any of his nighttime foods. This morning he sat on the table and drank from his water glass, but ate only a few bites of food (yes, @Judy and Boomer , I always warm his food, and also mix a lot of water into it). At lunch we got him to eat a few more bites, and Edward got him to eat a little this afternoon (I had to go out for a couple of hours). So far this evening he has ignored his dinner. His nose and eyes are still running. I don't think an antihistamine would be the right thing for Rusty because his nasal passages (which the vet thinks have hardened and narrowed) were clogged a few days ago. At least now they are running. Rusty is getting quite weak, although he still jumps up onto his perch and the couch. He needs to eat. I worry about hepatic lipidosis. He may deliberately be shutting down his body. If the pred transdermal arrives tomorrow, we will try that. But if we see no improvement, or if he takes a turn for the worse, we will bid him farewell. He is such a great kitty and we do not want to see him suffer.

Please keep the vines coming to our boy! Thank you all again for your concern and your help.

Rusty, any of us from the kitchen crew would be honored to fix you up anything that sounds yummy or comforting. Maybe some steaming chicken soup with crunchy croutons?
Vines from me and my momma,
Felix

You guys are awesome.
Yo Felix, chicken soup would be great. I needs it! Especially with your excellent crunchy croutons. Do you know about KTSS (Kittens of the Traveling Soup and Spa)? It was started by my mentor, Chef Mannie (when he was still an apprentice in Chef Stu's kitchen). Stu was sick and Mannie and the rest of the Kitchen Krew cooked up a big batch of chicken soup for him. Stu recovered and KTSS was established (actually the Spa was added to Kittens of the Traveling Soup later, to help get vetty smell off of kitties who had been at the vet).

Nighttime report:
Rusty had a rally at 9 p.m., which is the time I usually go downstairs to hold his bowl. He got out of his basket, came over to the couch, and actually ate some of his food (more than usual). He watched TV for about 15 minutes and then went back to his basket. His nose and eyes both looked better. I can't tell now (almost midnight) how he is. Edward brought him upstairs. We're turning in now and will see what the morning brings.

Thank you all for your support.

Oh I pray when you wake Rusty shows signs of continued improvement....joins you for brekky (and happily partakes) and his runny nose and eyes are clearer. This sounds like it's been a really yukky few days for you all. Sending :bighug:healing vines to Rusty.

Paws crossed tomorrow is one of the good days. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Chicken soup, coming up! With a shot of Aquavit for extra flavour. We'z got some special rosemary too.
Rosemary for recovery! That's the old LL remedy.
Tobey is coming out of retirement from KTSS to come give Rusty a good massage.
Thank you Tobey!
If memory serves (which is quite often doesn't) Rusty was born in Canada?
We don't think so. He was found in 2008 wandering the streets in Plymouth MA. His Canadian connection is his trip from Detroit to northern NY State via a DCIN car relay through Ontario. During this journey he stayed overnight in Toronto with his Auntie Linda (@Linda and Bear Man ), so I guess he can be considered an honorary Canadian!

I'm about to open Rusty's condo for today (19 Jan.). He is doing better!

Definitely an honorary Canadian and very eligible to receive special Canadian vines! So happy to hear that he is feeling a bit better today!
