Amps 207 Libre

Glad yesterday is over and the vet visit is done for now. It always takes so much out of Ivy on me to sedate her and take her and all that.

We should get her lab results on Monday.
Her appetite was not great last night. It took a lot of encouragement from me to get her to eat. I’m sure the sedation plays into her low appetite.
Still not 100% this morning:(. I would think by tomorrow she should be back to herself, paws crossed :cat:

Will install a new Libre today and activate tomorrow morning. (She will be thrilled ;))

I gave her a spa day yesterday with a major brushing. Here’s the result (I can only do this when she’s sedated. Otherwise she never tolerates me brushing her like that.)

Awww...look at that sweet baby! I hope she's feeling more like herself soon.
I'm considering getting a CGM for Jude. Do you recommend it? Any advice? Because I work so far from home, I'd like to be able to monitor him while I'm gone.
 
Omg, using the couch as a headrest, I love it. I think you have a good root cause for the appetite. Lots of positive thoughts from us for Monday.

Glad you made it through yesterday! I hope the test results come back with good news!
Looks like miss Ivy has enough fluff to keep everyone warm during the snow lol but seriously, long hair cat problems, I feel that on a personal level. Kai is also not fond of long brushing sessions :rolleyes:

Hi Staci, The sedation probably definitely plays a roll in her appetite. Poor baby is still doped up.
Hopefully by tomorrow she'll be more alert and will start to eat without you having to encourage her.
At least she got a good brushing .
I hope you both can relax today. I know you will let us know about the labs when you get them. :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:
 
She is beautiful and looks pretty wiped out. Wishing you both happy, healthy news!

Is it hard to install the monitor yourself? Any chance you have a video of you doing it? I've watched videos but they are just not your typical cat and servant :joyful:. I'm also going to call Libre cause the linkup option doesn't seem to work and I really want to get alerts when I cannot be with him.

It is not hard to install by yourself It just takes some practice. I don’t have a video but at some point I guess I could try to take one.

**One thing I want to mention is if you do call Abbott about a Libre never say you’re using it for a pet always say it’s for a human or they won’t give you support and then they’ll flag your account.

do you have a dedicated phone that is reading his sensor? You want to have that being sent through LibreLink up to US a designated person who can receive the alerts.

For instance, Ivy has her own phone that stays with her at home and I have the LibreLinkUp app on my personal phone where I receive the data of her sensor 24/7.

I did find that out the hard way with support.. Yes, he has a dedicated phone. When I go to Connected Apps from his phone it says this feature is unavailable. Do you use Libre 3?

I do use a Libre 3
Did you send an ”invite” to yourself at a separate email address so you can be an authorized person to receive updates? I think that’s how you do it if I remember correctly, I assume you have the LibreLinkUp app on your personal phone and and on his as well.
 
What you were finding out about the difficulties in dealing with Abbott in using it for a pet or part of the reasons I recommend everybody becomes a member of the Facebook group because they address all of these issues so as you’re getting started, everything is In detail and gives you all the tips that everybody’s already made the mistake and then they give you all the answers ahead of time. It takes a little reading and a little time but it’s a great resource.

Hi Marielle, I do recommend it for situations like yours. Or for various reasons.
You would know where his level is while you’re out so that’s great peace of mind.

With Ivy, she won’t let me poke her a lot. So I needed a solution. The Libre works for us.
But you still need to be able to poke them, especially when they are going low to make sure they are safe.
I also test with a Contour Next handheld meter when she hits “LO” readings, most especially (or anything under 60 or so)

There can be a discrepancy between when you see LO (or lower numbers) Libre sensor readings and what the hand held glucometer (could be any handheld human or pet meter)

I install the Libre myself and I keep several Libres on hand because as they can fail or be pulled off by the cat at any time and I don’t want to have to wait to have someone else put it on and be without data or have to take Ivy to the vet to pay to have it put on.

It’s truly not that hard to put on. You just have to follow the directions carefully. Once you’ve done it one or two times, you will be very comfortable doing it.

I keep a “tube top” on Ivy, (previously had a T-shirt on her. She just didn’t like the T-shirt). *But most cats tolerate them quite well.

Your cat may get used to wearing a Libre (and then maybe wouldn’t have to use a T-shirt,) but then again you might always have to keep one on if he wants to pull the Libre off. Each cat is different.

To use the Libre 3 sensor, I bought an extra mobile phone that stays with my cat at home and I can monitor her 24/7, the data is sent directly to my own phone through the Libre Linkup App).

I bought a compatible, older model iPhone that was used, on eBay, (certain approved Android is fine too) ***no service is needed for the phone you use to “read the Libre”, so no extra costs for service.

***I strongly recommend learning about how to apply and use a Libre from the Facebook group Freestyle Libre for Dogs and Cats.***
They have so much valuable information, guide guides, tutorials videos, and everything you will need to learn about using a Libre sensor.
Plus a vet office tends to use glue to install the sensor and it is highly recommended not to use any glue.
The glue can kill the sensor and it’s terrible on their fragile skin.

Hi Cecile, you’re sweet. She was so sleepy yesterday. Still a bit today. Takes her a few days to get back to her ornery self.

Ugh the cold you are having makes it look balmy here. Stay indoors for sure!!
We are expecting snow tomorrow.
I plan on being home and cooking. And of course roasting lamb for Ivy.
What else do I do after all?

Yes. I have them write if for 2 at a time, PRN, so I don’t have to keep going back to them and asking for more prescriptions.
You never want be with without them if you’re going to be using them ongoing.
You always want to have several back ups in the house because they can fail and will fail (inevitably at midnight or some crazy hour of the day or night). I’ve replaced them at 2 AM. It’s not fun.:blackeye:
 
My pharmacy finds a coupon and applies it. I pay around $38 each. But I do know that costs tend to be higher in different parts of the country.

Hi Diane, she’s definitely feeling better today than she was yesterday. That picture was from yesterday when she was super sleepy. Today she’s a little more than normal and she had some soft poops. I’m sure the medication has to work its way through the system.
I’m about to take her upstairs just to get her out of her room and give her a She’s not gonna be happy because I’m forcing her to leave her comfy bed, but she’ll be fine.
I hope you’re staying warm this week and it’s pretty cold in our region, Isn’t it?

tired Queen Ivy, even drugged a beauty! :kiss: On the picture one can see how long her fur is. It must be really difficult to brush it. I hope you spoilt yourself with something nice last night after this exhausting trip to the vet. Now all fingers and paws are crossed for good results.

I hope everything works well with the installation of the libre and the activation tomorrow.

I read your post about the needles yesterday. I hope it is just coincidence and you can continue using them. But of course location is a matter for the absorbtion. There is always something new to deal with, right?

Wellness glad to hear she's almost back to her usual self. Looks like she's decided to go easy on you today. Pancake kitty. Hopefully she showsnsome action tomorrow.
