Yesterday's Condo

Well, we still aren't back on schedule, since my DH gets up and starts working (on the computer), and once again lost track of time this am. We'll adjust tonight's shot down a bit and keep adjusting tomorrow so we can hopefully get back to "normal" on Monday. Whatever that is. Fortunately, Cinco is used to fluctuating shot times and it really doesn't seem to mess him up (unless the fluctuation is three or four hours :-x ). His numbers yesteday and so far today are right back where they were before the curve fiasco. :-D

His appetite, as always, continues to be excellent, but he seems a little more droopy today, so I'm going to give him some sub-q fluids this afternoon. I'll have to watch the video to refresh myself on how to do it, as it's been almost a year. The vet finally called last evening, and she said that she felt he was at the correct dosage, based on their curve and the numbers on my spreadsheet (so she did look at it!). She repeated that there was nothing in the urinalysis to indicate a problem that might be causing his excessive urination, and agreed it could just be the bartonella. I asked about the Zobaline, and after discussing it, she said that it wouldn't hurt to give it to him, so I resumed it last night. She agreed that giving him sub-qs every few days, as long as the extra pee continues, is probably a good idea. I think now, maybe, she'll trust me to do the curves myself and not insist on my bringing him in. :RAHCAT

Reading other people's condos has been so educational. That's how I found out about the Zobaline, and today I read about Rescue Remedy. I've been searching for someway to calm Harvey down - he's such a bully to Minka and Cinco and has them totally intimidated. It sounds like it's worth a try. We have a feremone diffuser going near his feeding station, and he wears a "calming collar", but he still goes ballistic if one of the other cats screeches or if Cinco gets too close. The vet even gave me some valium for him, but that just made him walk funny. Paws crossed that this is the solution I have been searching for. If it works, I am going to be ecstatic. :-D

Sending healing vines to all in need, and hugs to all the stressed-out beans. :YMHUG:

Condos can be pretty interesting, hey? I learn stuff too! :-D I hope you can try the RR and calm Harvey down. It looks like a nice slide today for Cinco, and almooooost blue. Come on, Cinco! Marjes video was a wonderful tool when I was learning subqs, I think I wore the video out  Haha, yes I know, it's online. But it sure got watched a lot! I hope it goes well for you :-D Hugs, and Happy Caturday to you!

Rachel, I didn't realize that was Marje's Gus in the video. (duh!) Is that her, narrating, and Mike helping? She did an amazing job! I just realized, Gus crossed the bridge on my birthday. What an adorable boy he was. It is a very well-done video, and I've watched it twice now. I'll probably watch it again before I attempt to give the fluids. I'm going to pick up some this afternoon, as the bag I had is too old.

Hugs back! :YMHUG:

Yes, that is sweet adorable Gussie :-D Marje and Mike do a nice job demonstrating on him, and he was sooo good. I'm still so sad for them that he had to go to rainbow bridge

I hope the vet isn't charging you too much for fluids, mine were a mint  I found another place to get them later, cheaper, but if you only need one bag it isn't too bad. I hope Cinco is a very good subq patient for you :-D

I found a web site that lists places to buy sub-q supplies, and the prices seem to vary. I hope to only need the one bag, so I won't mind paying a little more than I would if this were going to be a long-term thing. How much do you give each time? I haven't seen anything about that online and I forgot to ask the vet last night. I was planning to ask when I go for the bag and/or prescription.

Chyna is only on a low dose, we do 50ml every second day of LRS for her CKD and mix water in her food. I have no idea how much if it's for dehydration...my vet did tell me to not do large amounts all in one injection spot. I'd probably ask the vet, then post on here to check it ;-)

In a fleeting flash of brilliance, I looked on the log sheet from Cinco's curve at the vet. They gave him 200 cc. I have never been any good at the metric system, and all the other measurements I've seen have been in mls. :YMSIGH: I guess I'll ask them to spell it out so even this idiot can understand it!

Hi guys,
Just dropping in briefly to wish you good luck on giving the fluids. Marje's video is super. It is a fantastic resource if any of us have to learn to give fluids. Marje, Mike and Gus make it look easy!!

Have a good rest of the weekend. I hope that Cinco will be feeling good soon.

We gave 100 ml to Zener. Seems like I remember someone saying to be sure the previous fluids were absorbed before you give any more. Marje might be able to help with an amount. Feliway helps some cats to calm down. Come on down, Cinco!

Thanks, Ella and Liz.

Feliway makes the diffuser we have near Harvey's feeding station. Sentry makes the calming collar he wears. I'll try anything to keep peace! I didn't make it to the vet's today, so it's on the agenda for tomorrow. We'll do it right after lunch, and give Cindo the fluids in the afternoon, if we feel he needs them.

I checked him today for the "pouch" of unabsorbed fluids, and there was none, so I think it's safe to give him more. I watched another video on YouTube that also showed how to do it, from assembling the supplies, all the way through the removal of the needle. I think I'm comfortable enough now to do it. I wish I'd watched those two videos last year before I first gave fluids to Kisa! I only had one training session at the vet's! I managed okay, but I'm a lot more confident about it now. I do know it's not as easy as they made it look, but then they had a lot of experience.

I'll be posting about my experience afterward, for sure!
