Good Morning, Everyone,

After reading the latest thread about the FreeStyleLite meter, I'm going to do some more comparisons today. Rusty has been looking very good--and very green--since we have adjusted his dose aggressively over the past 3 months or so, but always it lurks in the back of my mind that the meter might make things seem greener than they are. So I still have a Relion Micro and a Relion Confirm. I used the Micro last winter (until mid March) and was happy with it, but switched to the FreeStyleLite because many here were raving about it. I've never used the Confirm, but bought it because it was on sale and because it uses the same strips as the Micro. Today, or tonight I will test them all on myself. And if I can get a large enough drop of blood out of him, I'll test on Rusty. Stay tuned!

Rusty had a good night, good test, breakfast (Wellness Turkey, 2 sittings with a little FF T&G in the 2nd sitting to make him really happy), good shot. It is still very cold (-14 degrees F. this morning, but has warmed up to -9), but the temps are supposed to make it into the +20s today and tonight it's supposed to rain in parts of our area. Yo- yo weather=not good!! Even if it is in the 20s, Rusty will probably not want to go outside: he doesn't like the snow and ice on his feet! I may go to the x-country ski area this afternoon. It will be the first time out on my skis this winter. Tomorrow I might go on a ski with a small group from the mountain club.

I'm going to go downstairs now to see if Rusty is ready for a game with the glitter wand and the crinklesack. He's chillaxin' in his bed by the radiator. Time to rouse him!!

Everyone have a good day. Continuing to send healing vines to Sid, Rocket, and to all kitties who need them.

Great start for Rusty! Good luck on your meter test. It will be interesting to see what you come up with. Have a great day Ella!

Re: 1/16 Rusty AMPS 81

OOO! A meter comparison! I love those, and look forward to see what you come up with.

oh wow on your temps there. That is just too cold! I hope you will be able to visit the CC ski area. We are still in the midst of our snow stuff - more is predicted for today and tomorrow. oh goodie!

Rusty is looking great. I don't blame him for not wanting to go outside. Mannie hasn't either... guess he too is not a big snow fan. :-D

Enjoy your day today. :-D

Re: 1/16 Rusty AMPS 81

I love to hear about Rusty's play sessions.

You've heard of my experiences with the FSL, but Weezer's numbers are on the other end of the spectrum from Rusty. I'm thinking it would be a good meter for the hypo kit.

Re: 1/16 Rusty AMPS 81

Rusty has sure been looking good lately.

Will be interesting to see what you come up with on your meter comparisons.

Re: 1/16 Rusty AMPS 81

Hi guys .. very nice start rusty! I hope that the meter comparison shows you the numbers rusty has been giving are accurate .. they just look so nice! I don't blame him for not wanting to go out in these cold temps ... he's probably wondering what the heck would make you want to go out there! Have a great day!

Re: 1/16 Rusty AMPS 81

Morning Snowbunnies!!! Hope you have a good day out in the snow!! Great numbers for the Rusty!!
He is doing so so well
Another meter comparison? AIYEEE!!!! One day we will find the Perfect Meter!! The one that gives us green all the time!
Have a beautiful day!! Hugs & Love from us!!

Re: 1/16 Rusty AMPS 81, +5.5 87

Hi Ella, brrrr...so cold there! I'm cold here and it's only 60's but windy! I use the Relion Micro as a back-up and it has been reliable with the 20-25% variance between the two, so then I know my ATrak is accurate. I only use the back-up when I'm unsure about a high or low number that seems not like a Mags number. Keep warm!

Re: 1/16 Rusty AMPS 81, +5.5 87

Without thinking it through, I googled "snow bunny"

but then, happily...i found this! :-D

Re: 1/16 Rusty AMPS 81, +5.5 87, +9.5 78

 Celi! That's what I would look like now on ice skates! (Actually, I had skates that looked like those when I was about that age!)

Hi again, Rusty's 78 at +9.5 on the FreeStyleLite was 96 on the Relion Micro. It was a large blood drop (much more blood than usual). Interesting that there was a much larger difference between the two meters than there had been at +5.5. (3 points at +5.5; 18 points at +9.5; I think they are within the 20% variance, however).

My first x-country ski of the season was not great; just enough snow, but my skis kept sliding sideways and were very sticky at first (even though I had put glide wax on them). It was a good shakedown, however, and shows me how out of fitness I am!!

bbl,

Freat day fir Rusty nor matter which meter you used!

I hope the skiing is better tomorrow. Transitional weather is so hard to wax for.

Re: 1/16 Rusty PMPS 86; meter comparisons

Hi Ella, I'm surprised it was so cold there. I think you're more in mountains than I am.
I'm just on top of a hill. It was in the high 30's today, in fact it's 34 now at 10pm.

I use the Relion Confirm and Wavesense Presto. The Relion is always higher, by about 10 to 15 points. It takes a much smaller drop of blood and registers quicker.
It only matters when it's near a color line. Blue looks so much better than yellow. :-D

I'm lovin' Rusty's numbers.

Re: 1/16 Rusty PMPS 86; meter comparisons

Very interesting on the comparison, the FS seems to work well in lower numbers.

Rusty sounds like he had a good day playing and chillaxing. Nice numbers today too

Brrrrr you guys were colder than we were today, but now we've got forecasts for highs of -22F for the next few days, you don't even want to know what our lows will be!!!! Good on you for getting out skiing today, and I don't believe that you're not in shape!!

Have a great evening with your cuddly boy.

Re: 1/16 Rusty PMPS 86; meter comparisons

I have also been doing some comparisons between my Freestyle Lite and the Relion Confirm because of the reported issues. Thus far mine are lining right up with each other, just as they did when I did several tests after purchasing the Relion as a backup last year.

First test was a hour after she ate dinner so in the higher range where there is more wiggle room in that 20% variance. Freestyle Lite read 203. Relion read 206.

PMPS the next night: Freestyle: 121 Relion 124.

Really makes you wonder where the wild numbers are coming from - bad meter, or bad strips? Combo of both?

Hi Amanda,
Very interesting comparisons on your meters. How old is your FreeStyleLite and does it use the newer "butterfly" strips? Apparently it is the newer version of the FSLite (the one that uses the "Butterfly" strips and that has been around for about a year) that is the problem. Mine is this newer version and that is why I am uneasy about the higher bg readings not registering where they should. This is not a problem for Rusty now, since he is nice and green/low blue, but it could become a problem if other health issues were to develop and are not immediately apparent because the meter readings are still low. How often do you test your meters against each other?

Thanks for your help,

Ella

I replaced my Freestyle within the last... 4 months I would say. I had gotten used to the lancing device it came with and the button on mine gave out. I buy off of ebay and prefered the butterfly strip because it seemed to require less blood. I don't recall a noticable drop in numbers when I swapped to the new style of strips.

I've only actually compared the same blood droplet on a handful of occasions. A couple of days when I bought the Relion to make sure they matched up, and then just this week as concerns over meter accuracy came up again. Thus far they've been very close to each other in the testing that I've done. The Freestyle Lite is always the lower of the two...but not by much.
