[Jason - Kona's Dad]

Kona and I got caught in an ice storm and were stranded on a major highway for 12 hours.

We left from where we were at 11am and it is now 4am. Temperature dropped to 26 degrees. Luckily I had full tank of gas.

I had a litter box inside the vehicle that she used.
She ate soooo good, despite all the stress.

I had to shoot while stuck on the road. I had a powered cooler so her insulin should have been fine.

I shot at 60 which was terrifying. I tested every 30 minutes and kept her in high 50s and 60s. Just food was all that was needed, I didn’t have to break out the karo or honey. She just tested 76 so I’m going to bed, her next shot is in 2 hours.

I’m trying to calm down from such a crazy day.

Well done Jason and Kona. That's a long time to be stuck!

Bring back not so fond memories of my road trip with Neko (3 days x 9 hours each way) in stinking heat. Stopping and keeping the car running for AC. Knowing she was dropping and some idiot ahead of us dropped a butt on the side of the road causing a fire so the traffic was crawling. Not slow enough to stop and test.

Hope the two of you are home and recovering.

We are still in an ice storm, I have no internet and my phone barely loads FDMB. Power is flickering.

Kona is doing great, very stable in dark green, she hasn’t dipped too low… some high 50s is the lowest I’ve seen just one or two times the last few days, but mostly flat in the 60s and 70s. It’s quite remarkable how this dose has kept her very low, but so stable and flat. I have all the test history in the meter, I’ll post when I can. I’m watching her closely though.

I have 5 days worth of propane for the generator and 8kwh of solar generator batteries fully charged. I have a small powered color that will keep her insulin at the right temp. Plenty of cans of food, syringes, test strips, and lancets. The storm is supposed to go by tomorrow, but no telling what happens. Needless to say it’s been a crazy last few days.

I hope by today things are better you are so prepared. I’m so impressed.
When you get time and Internet, would you mind linking the cooler you have like to look into something like that I think it’s better to be prepared. (we are getting quotes for a generator! lol)

Kona is doing fine. I did however catch a 45, no clinical symptoms at all she was playing, jumping, running around like nothing at the 45. Brought her up quickly to 60 and haven’t seen anything since…

In any event, I decided it was best to do a reduction from 1.5 to 1.25. She bounced up to 298 at one reading, but appears to be stable now. Had a PMPS of 128.

As soon as I get internet I’ll be posting regularly.

Kona is doing fine. I did however catch a 45, no clinical symptoms at all she was playing, jumping, running around like nothing at the 45. Brought her up quickly to 60 and haven’t seen anything since…

In any event, I decided it was best to do a reduction from 1.5 to 1.25. She bounced up to 298 at one reading, but appears to be stable now. Had a PMPS of 128.

As soon as I get internet I’ll be posting regularly.
