I can't believe ANOTHER month has come and gone. It's been very hectic here not just with the cats. I'm sure I'm not the only one but sometimes it's really hard for our significant others to handle the cats. As you can imagine, it's really hard in our house with all the special needs. The good news is Tigger went back to his owner almost 2 weeks ago. He is doing really well. Abby got adopted this past Saturday. She was doing much better as far as her BG's, got her down to 7u. But her teeth are really bad still even with the atopica. Her new owner works in a veterinary hospital and already has plans to have her teeth removed.

The past few weeks we have had a virus in the house as well. Oreo, Shadow, Cassius, Mikey all got it plus about 5 of my civvies. It first looked like ringworm spots but then had green goop in their eyes but not like a URI. I've actually never seen a cat with what they had. None of them lost their appetites or changed behavior much.

I was trying to see how Mikey, Cassius and Rose would do with out insulin. There were a few times I realized the pen was not working and I actually didn't give them insulin and their BG's didn't get that bad so I figured what the heck. It actually looked like Rose would get OTJ until last week when she got a steroid shot :( Needless to say they are all on insulin.

So here is who is left---
Mikey AMPS 76
Cassius AMPS 187
Rose AMPS 277- Her mouth is really bad. Upon recheck her teeth look good but the back sides are really inflamed. The vet could barely even touch her. He ended up giving her steroid shots and although I was freaking out about it, they helped tremendously. She is even back to eating regular Friskies. I don't have to open 10 cans of food to entice her to eat, she's not running away from her food in fear. Unfortunately, her BG went way up. I'm not sure what I will do as far as removing her teeth. Being that she just had the dental in November I was hesitant to put her under again. I'm thinking if the steroids wear out and the atopica doesn't work then I will have no other choice but to have them removed.
Shadow - OJT again
Oreo- OTJ

Wow, sounds crazy at your place!!! Kudos & blessings to you and yours for handling so many with special needs!!! All the time and expense, you are a superhero! I can barely handle one new-ish Dxd on insulin and one civvie with newly Dx panc probs. :)

Wow! I don't know how you take care of so many and keep it all straight!! I can barely do my one diabetic and two civvies! Kudos to you!!!

Hi Jen.

It's good to hear from you, and wonderful to hear some good news about some of your kitties. Poor Rose! I hope a solution can be found to keep her comfortable with out continued steroids, but if she must have them, you know you just have to adjust the insulin accordingly.

Having something sweep through your whole tribe must be one of your worst nightmares! I hope everyone is on the road to recovery. It's great that it hasn't affected their eating or behavior.

That's great that Tigger is back home and Abby found such a purrfect forever home. :) Scritches to the rest of the crew.

I'm glad Tigger is home and Abby has a new home. I hope everyone is recovering from the virus. It's awful when you have a multi-cat household and they all get sick. Poor Rose. I hope you can find a long term solution for her mouth. Sending prayers.

That is so wonderful that Tigger is home and Abby found a forever home! :cat:

Sending vines to you and your kitties! :bighug:

Hi Jenn, sorry to hear about the virus that has your crew in it's grip. Did you hear about the quarantine of cats with a bird-flu virus in the NYC shelter system? The link above is to the press release. It may or may not be relevant for your kitties. I hope they recover quickly and am sending healing vines.
Good news about Tiger and Abby.

Hugs, scritches,

Yes, being with a local NYC rescue we were alerted before the public and one of my friends found out even prior to that before they new what it was and only 13 cats were affected. It's been on my mind as you can imagine, not only because I live so close but because we have NYCACC cats here. The most recent is Oreo but he came in September. They are estimating the bird flu started in November. However it seems there is something else wrong with the cats now. One of my friends posted on FB that the cats were starting to test negative for the bird flu and being taken out of quarantine and developed something else. During transport one cat actually died. So, now of course I am wondering what else they have that could some how have traveled my way?

This is not what any of us wants to hear. I hope they can figure out what it is; and I hope that your crew won't get it. Hang in there, Jennifer. You don't need this!

More healing vines are on the way.

and it just got worse if you can believe it. One of my friends just told me the cats in quarantine now exposed to calici virus. These poor cats. I actually think mine cats have a combination of ringworm and URI or herpes virus. So, annoying but not deadly, thank God!

You know when the vet mentions steroids I cringe. But she was clearly miserable. I will likely have her teeth removed if they flare up again.
