I'm still cautious and full of anti-jinxes when I say these things, but we had a very awesome start to the morning. When I got up, Trix was waiting outside the bedroom door. She trotted down the hall to the bathroom with me. I can't remember the last time she did that. She trotted downstairs for breffis. We had computer snuggles. Then, while I was still trying to wake up, civvies Zen and Petey decided to have a HUGE fight...so big that even screaming at the top of my lungs didn't stop them - I had to reach in and pull Zen out (no scratches for me). They both seem OK...couldn't find any wounds or injuries...but damn, it was not a nice way to wake up.

Anyway, that fight happened about 15 minutes before Trix's AMBG....curious, but will never know, if that's why it's a little higher than it had been the last few days.

Appy is pretty happy. I haven't done any actual assist-feeding since yesterday morning, but she sure loves it when I squirt little bits of the pureed food from the syringe on top of her regular food :p ! It's like I'm decorating a cake and she's licking the icing off the top (and getting some of the "cake", too, but that's just a vehicle for the "icing".) Funny girl.

So as I mentioned in yesterday's cond, Trix's culture did come back positive for a scant amount of enterococcus. Naturally, Trix does not have any UTI symptoms. The reasons we cultured her urine were because of her inexplicable crazy high kidney values, and because there was some blood in her urine. It was a small enough quantity to just be the result of the needle stick for the C&S, but we decided to culture anyway, just to cover all the bases.

So, today I pick up her 4-week course of amoxicillan. Vetty also suggested we supplement with cranberries and probiotics, so we'll be doing that, too. I plan on getting the cranberry supplement Ann suggested last night ( Cranberry Supplement ) I know our local Ma & Pop fuds store carries that brand, so I'm going to get some locally to try it out, and if it's a go, I'll order it online. Does anyone have any other cranberry suggestions?

How about probiotic suggestions? I do have FortiFlora here, but it is pricey and she did develop a bit of an aversion to it after last year's p-titis attack, so I'd like to explore other options. I'd appreciate any ideas!!

I'm off today, but have tons of errand, so it's time to get myself moving. Have a great day, LL!

Amy

Hi Amy,
Aside from the catfight, everything sounds pretty good at your place this morning. It's great that Trixie is feeling good and acting good.
Will Trixie eat dairy? If so, you could try plain yogurt with active cultures. A human probiotic I've seen references to on the board is called Pearls:

I hope your day will go well. Trixie, take your meds!

Morning Amy :coffee::coffee::coffee:

I too used the supplement you mention, same one as Ann, and the FortiFlora too. Mannie accepted them ok, for a while. For us, it got to the point where he knew when food was doctored, and would not eat anything with anything additional in it. That got to be a challenge. If I couldn't pill it, or syringe it, he didn't get it. I wish you luck with the additional supplements. I hear cranberry is a good addition. Mannie was a huge dairy fan, so he got greek yogurt as a probiotic. That worked really well for him, and didn't affect his BG.

WOW on the kitty fight. One has to love that first off in the morning.

have a great fay today, enjoy the day off. And Trixie, keep that appy happy, and off to the lagoon for you. :)

The probiotic most use on the FPS and CRF lists is Country Life dairy free acidophilus. A little is sprinkled in the food 3-4 times a day. It helped Tiffany who got a lot of UTI's. Your vet at least gives the antibiotic for several weeks. I couldn't get more than 10 days worth which led to some of her problems.

And she's back in the lagoon :D. She was seeming a little off, though, right after I posted...anti-jinxes didn't work :(. Not terribly off, but a little off. She seems perkier now. I guess if she has a UTI and p-titis, she's going to have some ups and downs.

My vet is definitely very thorough!

@elise - Do know where I can get Country Life?

Thanks!

Just ordered Country Life and the cranberry treats from Amazon...both at good prices with free 2-day shipping since we have Prime.

Thank you, guys!!

I was just going to say that I use Renew Ultimate as a probiotic and really like it. It's either tasteless or really palatable...not sure which but Gracie loves it in her food. You only need to give 1/3 cap bid.

I hope the cranberry works for her.

Thanks, Marje! I'm tucking all ideas and suggestions into my memory, in case something doesn't work for one reason or another.

I'm so glad Trixie is doing so well. Yay for green! :D

 on the cat fight. I hate it when that happens. You don't know if they are just having a "sibling" squabble or will really hurt each other. I hope they are over it now. Sending kitty calming vines.

Someone recommended Total Biotics to me for Harvey, and it seemed to work fine. Then the vet put him on Azodyl and didn't want him on another probiotic at the same time, so we stopped it.

I'm glad Trixie is feeling better today. It's nice to see that green. Sorry about the cat fight. That can be stressful for the other kitties.

I think I was the one who recommended Total Biotics. It has16 different types of "good" bacteria chosen for animals. Our vet was impressed w/ the formula when I showed it to her. All 3 of ours get it twice a day, about 1/16th tsp. Even Tess doesn't mind it! I have this mini measuring spoon set that works great for small doses. I think we use the "smidge" spoon!

I can tell you right now, I no longer want my title of Gelcap Queen. OMG, Trix's new AB is so gigantic that no matter how I split it, it alone requires 2 gelcaps. She gets that twice a day, plus all of her other meds, so we are up to 6 gelcaps per day. I am not a happy camper! It went fine this evening, other than it sucked having to pill her 3 times. But if we hit one of those days where she doesn't want to be pilled, it will be trouble. Plus I don't want her to associate me with nothing other than ear pokes, SubQ needles, and pills pills pills. I'm bumming. She needs this AB for a month.

I do have a call in to vetty to see about compounding a sugar-free liquid ASAP. And I'm praying with all my might that the addition of the amoxicillin doesn't upset her digestive system. I ordered probiotics today; they'll be here Saturday.

Other than that, she at least WAS a very happy snuggly spunky kitty with a good appy earlier this evening. Right now she's snoozy, so it's hard to tell her mood or how she feels. MamaBean is feeling stressed and anxious....

Yikes on the horse sized pill! I added a little bit more pumpkin to Neko's food when we started the AB and I'm not sure if it that or the probiotic, but she seemed to handle it fairly well. I much prefer liquid meds too!

Civie Theo also gets the Pet Naturals of Vermont UTI treats. It's his special before bed test treat and so far he still likes it. Prices really vary at different stores. I get it where I get Neko's raw food, and it's a couple bucks cheaper than on Amazon. Mind you, that's Amazon.ca.

May you be cat fight free tonight.

Oh my on the pills. Sending enough good-pilling vines to last for quite some time.
I'm glad Trix is snuggle and has a good appy. She must be feeling pretty great. :)
You are such a good mamabean, ((Amy)).

((((Amy)))) Cripes, why do they have to make those AB pills so frikking huge anyway????:eek: Sending continued prayers and vines for smooth gel-capping- and truly, I hope that a pharmacy near you can come up with a nice appealing, chicken flavored non-sugary compound for those pills and that the amoxicllin doesn't cause any GI problems! :bighug::bighug:

I remember dosing Spitzer (GA) with numerous meds. I had to make a schedule just to keep track of which went before a meal, after a meal, in the morning, etc.

Six! Oh my. But you gotta do what you gotta do. I'm talking to you Miss Trixie. You're doing great, let's keep it going by cooperating with those meds. Vines Amy. It'll get done. Not fun. But you'll get it done.

Marilyn and Polly

:arghh: MORE GELCAPS?! UGH! I'm so sorry!!! Give that girl some scritches for me...mostly for just being awesome, but especially for the trotting after you! :joyful: Sleep well, Amy!

You might want to ask if you can get an injectable AB too

There are so many options out there, I'd think they could come up with something other than horse pills!

I hope they can offer you something else that will work without adding to the pill count!
