I have the worst news possible about my beautiful Sheba.
This week I thought she had constipation...she had a swollen belly and hadn't pooped for several days. The vet did an X-ray and ultrasound and said she could see a tumour. She rang a specialist she knows well and I went straight up to see the specialist who had someone who specialises in ultrasounds.
Sheba has pancreatic cancer which is advanced and has free fluid in her abdomen, which is causing the swelling. There is really nothing that can be done at this stage....it is just a matter of time. The specialist said it is known as 'the silent killer' because there are often no real symptoms until it is advanced. Apart from the pancreatic flares Sheba has had ......she has been great.
The specialist said I will know when it is time when Sheba stops wanting to eat.
At the moment she is still eating reasonably well, but only food that she feels like. She doesn't want to chew much so I am giving her food that is easily eaten.
She is having the tamadol for pain ( the specialist said she didn't think she was in pain although the ultrasound hurt her when the lady pressed in........I was able to be with her) and the specialists has given me a few Lasix which I can give Sheba if the swelling becomes excessive. The Lasix are 20 mg each and she said give half a tablet....does that sound right? Is it OK to give with insulin...I read that it interacts.
I am completely shattered by this news and am struggling to stay afloat.... but I have to of course.
The kids are really upset, especially 2 of them.
In further terrible news, Jess our dog......well she is my DD dog but she lives with me because my daughter is in an apartment at the moment....had a turn earlier in the week. I took her to the vet and it was found she has a mass at the base of her heart. We were sent straight to a specialist......the same one who saw Sheba.......and she was admitted for an echo which diagnosed a haemagiosarcoma which had bled into the lining of the heart and was causing breathing difficulties and stopping the heart beating properly. She had the effusion drained and stayed 24 hours in the ER. She is home again and at the moment stable but again it is only a matter of time for her as well. It is malignant and because it is a bloody tumour, it is prone to bleeding, so the end could be sudden for Jess. The specialist has put her on an antiinflammatory and chemo but it is just to try and slow down the growth of the tumour and hopefully stop further bleeding
We are spoiling the both and trying to have some quality time....but it is hard. Sheba can't sit on my lap any more as it is too uncomfortable for her....she will jump up but is back down within 5 minutes. I feel I am in the middle of a dreadful nightmare. Anyway, I know you understand how I am feeling. I didn't know if I would be able to post today, but I feel Sheba may not last too long with this tummy swelling.

This is so terribly sad and my heart hurts for you, but I know you and team Sheba will get through this together. You have your entire L&L Land family behind you, too.
