❓: all right.. so. i was thinking of trying fluids via syringe. i appreciate the comments so much.. i was gonna buy everything, but i been reading all day and night and thats the other way to also do it.. everyone has mostly done it via set.. but on Tanya’s site and here:

they talk on using a syringe too. that sounds easier to me.. but idk??? like the idea of being able to control tightly the amount he’s getting, cuz i want to start small, concerned about his heart and kidneys adjusting and what not (he is also eating good and drinking good; getting water in his food too frm me..), and controlling how fast or slow to go when its going under the skin.. any thoughts appreciated. 🫶🏼 @Staci & Ivy @Wendy&Neko @Mary & Jude @Tyleete @tiffmaxee @Lara & Luciole (Lu) @Suzanne & Darcy 💘

also, Tanya’s site confused me.. you can put the whole amount in one spot right?.. 😭 or u gotta do two spots? cuz it was discussed like only a certain amount in one place.. idk. i thought you just put however mLs u doing in the one spot.. 🙃

his numbers been ok 💖.. just finding myself prioritizing this rn a tad more.. ugh…. cuz idk what. just hearing its probably infection. im riled up. Internist a useless tool it would seem.. idk. its confusing and defeating. but im running him in at 10:30 for a culture, maybe some blood, maybe ill have em do a little bit of fluids if willing, idk what.. and a script hopefully for antibiotics. none of this is cheap either, this back and forth. im pretty annoyed. :/
 
Fluids are real easy, especially since you're already used to giving shots for diabetes.
I both watched it online via YouTube as well as watched the vet tech do it once in front of me.
There are a few tips I've learned to make it easier. Find a table or desk, get a box and a comfy blanket.
Cats like to feel secure, and they're predators by nature. It's why they prefer to sleep up high. Prey are on the ground, while predators stalk from above. Putting them up of the ground to do it helps. You want a box that has sides high enough to make them feel enclosed some. What I use comes up to their face when sitting down, just a few inches tall. For us, we use a box on a desk up against the wall, then in the box I face them to the wall. Helps them settle down quicker and they don't try to jump and get away then during the process.
Aside from that, take something like a wire hanger and loop it through the top of the fluid bag and hang it on something high like the top of a door. Let gravity help, especially if you're alone.
Aside from that, treats help a lot for some. Carefully hold that needle to the body, as you don't want to have to poke them again. It can be given in one spot. I usually aim towards the center, but it will go down to whichever side it likes and they may look funny for a little, until it's soaked in.
And I use 20 gauge as well. 18 will get the fluid in faster, but makes a 'crunch' I hate.
Also, if the fluid doesn't seem to be dripping in? Sometimes the needle might need moving around a bit. Carefully. Three hole it comes out of, could be pressed up against something inside, causing a blockage of sorts.

tysm! will take all this advice. just got back and our vet actually had me do it today so i could do it at home.. i know how more now! yayy 🥲

just got back frm vet.. and was told it was always ok to try some antibiotics.. 🥹🫶🏼 spoke on Internist, said were told he was just old, no answer on the quickness of things.. the report for the ultrasound also still not ready..

they squeezed us in ~ spoke on possible infection, lets try, his blood shows maybe fighting something.. again said cool. 🥹 prescribed Zeniquin, 25 mg 1x/day.. 2 weeks.. retest blood then see where to go frm there.. also!! vet had me give fluids there so could guide me and have me do it. now i know how more. 🥰😍🤩…..

asked on culture.. he decided to refrain cause expensive and already doing antibiotics. (?)
said to do 100 mL fluids.. did 25 at vets. do some more later if able?.. or wait til tmw? thinking wait til tmw..

hes been yowling a bit more lately.. usually for water.
hoping he just tolerates the antibiotic well…. 😭 gonna have to cut it up.. stick it in some treats if itll fit…. Ugh.

I always have several ibd kiddos, and for them we usually use Clindamycin. My vet said it's one of the more gentler antibiotics for cats with gut issues. Just in case you see problems. Hope the zennequin does the trick!
