Yesterday

Yesterday was uneventful. Numbers never really came down to anything decent. Now I am left wondering if yesterday was a mini-bounce from the flat yellows the day before or if we are looking at a failed reduction. I was hoping to see some significant changes in him the next few days with the ABs and fluids. He is still pretty dehydrated after his bout with diarrhea. It is about time for him to see his regular vet for a check-up. Perhaps it is time for an increase? Since he has been sick, I am wondering if it would be appropriate to e conservative and give him a fat dose rather than a full increase or to wait a few more cyles to see if he starts improving. I'm off to get ready for school. I'll be gone all day and Brian will be monitoring tonight. He does not know how to update Frank's stats so it is likely going to be this evening before I will report again. Tomorrow evening I will make sure to introduce him to the process, which I should have done already, so if he has issues, he knows where to get help. I hope everyone has a great day and all kitties are healthy and happy!

Forgive me as I am catching up to Franks diarrhea issues just now. I'm sorry he has had that. I saw on the SS that the vet gave him a Convenia shot. Convenia is primarily for skin conditions and many of us will not allow our vet to give it because it is a long lasting antibiotic. While it might help some skin conditions within two weeks or three, it can affect the body longer. When it first came out, it was given to Gracie and she went into anaphylactic shock. We typically recommend in LL that you stay away from Convenia.

I also wonder if your vet has checked Frank for coccidia? I had a kitty that the same thing happened to him...very fast onset of horrible runny diarrhea and he had coccidia. There are much better a/bs for coccidia. Cats normally have some coccidia in their gut but it can get imbalanced for several reasons and if it becomes prolific, it results in horrible diarrhea and sometimes vomiting as well.

It's likely those blue numbers were from his depot. Today is his sixth cycle after the blue numbers and I believe he's likely bouncing from that blue.

If you can monitor him, I'd tend to take his dose back up to 2.75u. If the a/b was going to make a difference in his numbers, it should have done it by now. When we have a kitty with an infection of some sort, we walk that fine line of wanting to be sure they get enough insulin to ward off any possibility of DKA balanced against when the a/b might allow numbers to come down.

If it's harder for you and Brian to be able to monitor him closely due to school/work, you might fatten the dose but usually with a newly dx cat, it's better to do increases by 0.25u.

Hope he feels better soon.

This may be a bounce off of the 120 on 1/11. That was a big drop into the blues. Let's see how Frank's numbers play out today.

Do you have any probiotics in case of a bout of diarrhea? I keep FortiFlora on hand if it's needed.

I hope that Frank feels better soon, and shows you some lower numbers today :-D Have a nice Tuesday!

I don't have any concerns about the Covenia at this time. We have tried others, but this one seems to work best for him and his specific needs. Thank you for the warning, though.

The best time for me to monitor is Thursday night through Monday morning. Brian is here post shot while I am at school Thursday then I don't have to leave for class again until noon Monday. Looks like he wants to be in yellows and pinks which are not ideal but I am excited about things looking more consistent m if that makes sense. Got home early and feeling a nap coming on.
