ok, she had a split dose for amps yesterday (not on purpose. just didn't get enuf in syringe so i did a 2nd syringe), so pmps was late. guess split dose works well on lantus, too.
because her numbers have been so bad i just didn't want insufficient insulin (inappetance, possible infection [fever+awaiting C&S results], cancer).

her +9 was 121
preshot time was just before midnight: 97
2.5 hrs after scheduled preshot time: 98
3 hrs after scheduled preshot time: 102, so i finally shot. wanted to make sure she was going up because I can't rely on food to get her up later if needed.

Can't complain, these are the best numbers she's had in a while, but i expect a liver bounce. had to delay shot tho coz i can't count on her liver or appetite.

Cleo has lymphoma and is on CCNU (chemo) + prednisolone.
Inappetance and steroid are big considerations in dosing now. She had liver issues (cholangiohepatitis) but those #s are improving.
She's on methylB12, mirtazapine, cerenia, Denamarin, B12, Bcomplex, sucralfate for anemia.
Fluids daily for punky feeling from chemo.
Numbers have been running too high so we need to get them down per vet, and are working to figure out how to balance everything to get her relatively regulated but safe. Reaction to azithromycin caused diarrhea so I'm syringing fortiflora (she won't eat it).
We've done the sugar dance for 2.5 yrs but request input esp from lantus users with steroid/chemo experience

Hi Chris
Do you know what target range you want her numbers to be in? I try to keep Bear below his renal threshold most of the time, if possible. I think it's around 160 for him. You can use Diastix to measure her urine glucose and try to roughly correlate that with BG.

I know others will be able to give advice regarding the timing of fluids and how to use that to your advantage to manipulate BG's. When do give the Prednisolone? Bear gets 15 mg of Prednisolone with his pm insulin shot and other meds. His BG drops for about 4 hours, and then starts to climb through the night. He is usually at his highest in the morning. You might be able to use the timing of the Pred dose to help manipulate BG's as well.

Bear had huge problems with diarrhea resulting from an antibiotic. It's no fun. Others suggested other probiotics to me in addition to the fortiflora.

Do you give anything for pain? Has her thyroid function been checked? What dose of insulin are you giving?

I hope the C&S comes back OK. Do you have a preliminary report on that yet? Infection can be highly likely when chemo and steroids have damaged the immune system.

You are doing a great job with your sweet Cleo.

Hi Chris..
Sending good appy vibes to Cleo.. hope that she feels better real soon..
Glad that you are here!

hi, linda. replying to your queries:

really was just hoping for anything below 200 but if i had my druthers cleo's target range would be 100-130. i just don't want to shoot much lower any more because of the inappetance/cholangiohepatitis. can't trust the liver or her eating when needed.

experimenting with pred timing. right now i'm doing it right when i go to bed and when i wake (or any 12 hrs around that time). she's only on 2.5mg BID pred right now tho. her onset with lantus is quick (more like +2) and i haven't checked pred onset.

fluids she's getting once a day when she looks wrung out. i used to do them strictly mid cycle but her 2 vets disagreed on fluids. one wanted SID, the other (oncologist) wanted rarely. but dehydration is showing on test results so i agree with main vet that she'll get it SID. i was doing them at night but decided to start doing them the instant she looks wrung out. between a bad cold, extreme nausea & gas, and chemo, she's just not feeling primo.

she got bupe (FINALLY) at last visit but i don't have many so i'm saving for when she seems bad. gave 3 doses since monday. thyroid normal. lantus 1.5F, probably going to 1.75. she had great results from split dose yesterday so numbers then look much better than normal. i may either do split doses from now on or just go up a little. her urine glucose is just too high.

C&S results not ready yet, as of last night.

Poor, sweet Cleo. It sounds like you have a good handle on what you need to be doing for her right now.

the past 2 days look decent, but believe me i'm floundering. i just always sound as if i'm doing ok. any suggestions are extremely gratefully accepted.
i just HAVE to get her numbers down again. she's spending way too much time in the 200s and has enough other health issues to deal with right now. cat is barely walking (front paws are totally flopped down rather than walking just on pink pads, and we don't know whether it's diabetic neuropathy, arthritis in back legs causing injury to the overused front legs, or the cancer). even if i can't "fix" the other stuff i have to get her diabetes under more control so it's one less thing sh000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000/.+++++++++++++++++++++++++9 she has to deal with.

Just stopping by to see how Cleo is doing - I think you're doing an awesome job with her. Sending lots of healing vines to her - poor baby! Perhaps she just needs another beach vacation to set her right...

Of course Ms. Cleo had to put her two cents in... sorry she's feeling so lousy. I wish I could do something to help. Maybe a Peet's/Bailey's/wine delivery?

((((Chris)))) I hope you can get Cleo's numbers down. I'll try to study her ss tomorrow and see if I can see anything, though I don't have experience with her other meds and I know they do make a difference. You'll get there, I know it.

Looking at SS now...when was the last green she had and what number was it, do you know? Has she dropped very low on days when she is not eating? Oftentimes Sasha would actually run higher on days that she vomited, maybe from the stress (although she drops at the vet's office). Not sure what Cleo does.

If you wanted a 100 to 150 range, I would probably take her to a 1.75u (is that the same as the 1.5u extra fat for you?). It hopefully would give you a hint of green and a hint of yellow but mostly blue, at least going by the 4 recent days you have in there. Any additional SS info you can put in would be helpful.

I did add a liver BCP chew in your package today. I hope Cleo likes it!

last green was the 10th but she wasn't eating. updated some of my numbers--starting around line 559 on the SS. all doses 1.5uF. notes not added yet.
