1/14/20 Zoot AMBG 90; PMBG 75 Trial Day 4

He seems really good in spite of his ongoing issue with diarrhea.

He was AMBG=90 and alert and waiting for me at the top of the stairs this AM for me to start the day!

He is not frantic about food anymore, and he does not clean his plate - he grazes. If anything he has become quite finicky. This could be, in part, because we give him small meals in between his main ones (which we never did in a consistent way until a couple of weeks ago).

The diarrhea is extremely troubling - since he has had it for months. We have tried non-pharm treatments but they have had no effect - probiotics, s. boulardii, pumpkin, etc. Our Vet (remember his is our new vet - only for the last month) is has prescribed Metronidazole because his thinks it could be bacterial. I worry this could affect the trial, but we have to get this treated. So fingers crossed that this doesn't screw up his numbers and actually makes him whole and healthy!

One good thing about Zoot! is he seems to be drinking enough; and we are always adding water to his food. But now that he is eating less, we are more concerned. We took him to the Vet last Friday and he got sub q fluids. right now dehydration doesn't seem to be an issue, but we keep an eye on him. We are lucky that we both work from home and can give him the extra care he needs. I really think people who have to be gone good parts of the day are amazing at dealing with a disease as "hands-on" as diabetes.

Congratulations on day 4:D:D:D:D
I'm sending wishes for a whole and healthy Zoot! Any chance you have tried SEB (slippery elm bark)? I don't have experience with it, but have some on hand, because I hear what a help it can be for tummy trouble.

Yes! Early on we tried slippery elm, but it didn't do anything. Honestly, my husband and I thought it could be an allergy to Lantus since it started about that time; then we thought maybe allergies to the canned foods, so we tried changing food, and that didn't work, then forti-flora, then s. boulardii, then pumpkin, then some combinations, then metamucil, then our vet suggested adding w/d or l/d to his food, but that didn't work; so the Metronidazole is the next on the list. He does not have any other obvious signs of health issues, so it is perplexing. Zoot! is just a stinker (literally) :-).

Cinnie, I have an ex-stinker boy - funny, he looks like Zoot!!
I never found out what was wrong with him, but after a few years, it subsided, and now he has no trouble.
Crossing our paws the Metronidazole helps!!!

Ha! Those stinker-boys. I gave him the Met... this AM, and am waiting to definitively discover a less stinky poop. And he is still in the green. Happy we are.
