WCR: Normal... I guess? I woke up last night to what sounded like Willow coughing or choking (he was right above my head on the pillow so I'm sure it was him and not the stinky puppy). I wasn't sure if he was attempting to produce a hairball or what (although unless he's having pancreatitis issues, he doesn't throw up and even then, he doesn't do it much and there were none in the apartment in the morning). This went on for what seemed like forever but was probably only 10 - 15 minutes tops, including when I had to chase him through the apartment in a panic. I seriously thought he was struggling to breathe or something. I don't know. He completely freaked me out to the point that I almost took him to the E-vet. He's been sniffly for probably over a year now but all vet checks he's been cleared of any URI's and they've attributed it to dust or something in the air. I'm off until Tuesday so now I'm watching him like a hawk. After his little episode last night, he returned to normal. In fact, he's now sitting in his little bed in front of the computer purring and trying to be top secret about pushing the keyboard off the desk with his back leg.

Aside from that, I'm thinking of adding a drop or so to his dose (bringing him from a very poorly measured 1.75u to a s2u, since it's been 11 cycles since I've seen green (although since I can't test during the weekdays and he's shown some nasty highs at night, that's not to say he hasn't had some greens). I'll be home the next 4 days to monitor him closely. Your thoughts on this are welcome. :)

Re: 1/13 Willow AMPS~370, PMPS~510

Hi, Jordan & Willow.. WoW.. well, I hope Willow is ok.. I dunno about the dosecrease.. someone will weigh in..
But, Sadi had congestion/breathing stuff going on.. URI ruled out.. but the Vet gave her AmoxiTabs & I bought a humidifier & l-lysine.. now nearly a week later.. her sniffles are all but gone...

Enjoy your days off! ;-)

Hmm if this is a later nadir cycle (his nadir isn't consistent) maybe he'll be green by +6

Is he coughing with his neck low and extended? Not vomiting/making wretching sounds? You should look up asthma coughs in kitties.

:thumbup how cool is this :?: remember.. nadairs do change.. I am SO excited for Willow in healthy, healing #s!

Karrie... I'm not even sure how to describe it... but maybe that is what it is. Was very strange for Willow. I've heard a lot about asthma in kitties on here, but never have "seen" it first hand, so not sure I'd know (you think I'd have a clue since I have asthma). I'm going to look it up and see what I can find.

Nicole... oh ya, Nadirs can definitely change. Willow has shown me that from the time of his diagnosis. He likes to keep me guessing on when I might possibly see a lower number, if he even decides to bless me with one. :)

Re: 1/13 Willow PMPS~510, +5~104 Asthma question

Whoa... just watched a few videos of asthma kitties... my FIV kitty who just passed definitely had it and it does look/sound very similar to what Willow was doing last night (keep in mind it was dark when most of it was going on so I couldn't exactly see him clearly once he ran off to hide). Question though: Would this be something his Dr would be able to hear when listening to heart and lungs or is it easier diagnosed in cats through xray? I know my Dr's can hear the wheezing in my lungs.

I'm not sure... It took the vet an entire year of coughing to diagnose Maverick's asthma. Turns out Maverick was their only asthma kitty ohmygod_smile There is a very active Yahoo group on asthma that can answer these questions. All that I learned about feline asthma started with Fritz The Brave - his site was amazing. I think there are some coughing videos on there too. Every cat is different. Maverick never wheezed. Just coughed and he had mucousy sounding purrs. I'm not saying thats what this is but may be something to investigate.

Good morning...Just wanted to chime in on the asthma question. Curry was dx about 2 years ago with the asthma. Curry would cough once a blue moon and didn't produce a hairball....it wasn't a long cough....but enough to get my attention.....

10-15 minutes of coughing is a significant period of time.

Yes, the vet can usually hear it but they also can do an x-ray and see the "donut" like images in the lung if it is asthma. Most often an asthmatic kitty will have the coughing early in the morning. And the coughing can come and go in the initial stages.

Since the coughing was for such an extended period...you may want to have her evaluated.....to rule out anything medical and for piece of mind.

And Fritz the Brave website was very helpful as well as the Feline asthma group.

Jordan --

If you can get a video of Willow coughing of "sniffling" it may help your vet make a diagnosis since it's unlikely that Willow will do this at the vet's office. Also, if you are able to get a video, there may be some folks on Health who could give you an opinion.

I keep forgetting about the health board ohmygod_smile ohmygod_smile ohmygod_smile ohmygod_smile Before finding FDMB everything I needed was issue specific not all encompassing.
