I brought Salem home yesterday, along with a huge bag of supplies. He's continuing Prednisolone, and is also on Pepsid, Metronidazole, Enrofloxasin, and Mirtazipine. He seemed very restless last night - don't know if he was uncomfortable or stressed from the hospitalization. Tube feeding is wonderful compared to the horrific struggle my attempts to syringe feed Salem were. He ignores it, and tonight even fell asleep while I was feeding.

Karrie, I saw your comments. I'm considering not giving the Mirtazipine, especially since he's getting nutrition through the tube, but from what I read its an anti-nausea med as well as an appetite stimulant. I asked the hospital vet twice about other nausea meds but she insists he's not nauseated. She could be right - he shows no interest in food at all except for eating a couple of chunks of Liv-a-Littles. I also saw your comment in Do Lou's thread about Max Cal being very high in fat and possibly not good for pancreatitis - can you recommend another food? How about Wellness? It's smooth enough to go through the syringe.

As for bg, Salem was 250 in the hospital and 204 an hour or so after I got him home. I shot a drop of insulin and he came down to 152 late last night. This morning he was 128 so I didn't give any insulin.

He's sleeping again now - he's been meatloafing a lot but this evening seems more relaxed and sleepy.

I'm glad Salem is home with you now. Most kitties (and people) want to be home and can begin their recovery better.
It is good to hear that the feeding is going well, he needs his nourishment. Forcing it in his mouth didn't sound very productive for either of you. Some kitties just don't want to cooperate and the feeding tube is a life saver.

I smiled when you said he fell asleep as you fed him. Awww, Salem, good boy!

Hang in there Camille! I'll be watching for more updates on Salem's recovery.

Great news for Salem! I hope between the tube and being home, he will quickly recuperate. Sending more healing vines!

Hi Camille,
We are very glad that Salem is home and with you. The feeding tube sounds like a lifesaver (for you both!). Have a good night. Lots more healing vines, good thoughts, and prayers are on their way to you.

Hugs from us,

Ella & Rusty

Hi Camille, Glad that Salem could come home and rest. He's bound to feel much better being home with you than he would at the vet. Hope the tube feeding springboards his energy levels and well being, and glad it's working so you can rest a little easier.
Sending healing thoughts to you both :YMHUG:

Thanks for all the positive thoughts, everyone! :YMHUG:

Forgot to mention my four civvies are better - not totally back to their normal gluttony but all eating reasonable amounts and acting fine. Can't help thinking Salem picked up a bug during his first hospitalization and gave it to the others. :( Human or animal, hospitals have risks.

So thankful that Salem is home with those he loves & is being cared for by you!! Giving Moonie anything syringed is a disaster & I have to do that 3x a day--She fights me everytime, so I can only imagine feeding that way always--Glad you have an easy way to care for him & Praying for his continued recovery-Hugs & Love from us!!!!
