Good Fursday Morning, Everyone!

13 degrees here with lots of new snow. I have my annual dermatologist appt. today: in Potsdam, 70 miles away, so I hope the roads will have been worked on. (In general, unless it is snowing furiously, they do a great job up here in the mountains getting the roads viable again after a storm.) My migraine is gone. Thanks to everyone who offered suggestions. They run in my family, but I never had one until I was in my 30s. I don't get many any more: one of the "perks" of getting older!!

Rusty had a good test this morning (1 poke), and a good shot. He ate his breakfast in 2 "sittings" and we've had some good games with Big Bug, Cube, Red Ears, Scratcher (with "Featherhead", which hangs upside-down under the scratcher). Lots of energy this morning. At the moment he is sitting on my desk, supervising. I'll be able to get a +3 before I leave for my appointment and DH will
be here to observe, brush, feed lunch, and keep Rusty company. I expect to be back by +9 or so. I'll make a stop at the Potsdam Agway, which has a good cat-food selection.

Hope you all will have a good day. In New England they're digging out and power is being restored; thank goodness. Hope all the kitties are feeling well today.

Re: 1/13 Rusty AMPS 118

We don't really know how old he is. When he was picked up by the pound in the fall of 2008 in Plymouth MA, he was estimated to be 10 years old (because he had terrible teeth; apparently stray animals are judged to be either 4 years old or 10 years old, based on the condition of their teeth). If he was 10 in Nov. 2008, he would be 12, going on 13 now. I don't think he is that old! He has incredible energy. He runs up and down the stairs 2-at-a-time! He never loses interest in playing games.
I don't have much basis for comparison. Stu was already quite sick when he was 12, and although he still played, he never had the amount of energy Rusty has, even when he was younger and healthy (Stu was 4 when we adopted him and was dx. with diabetes when he was 9, but certainly was diabetic before the actual diagnosis). Alice (GA in 2000) was a foundling of indeterminate age whose main concerns were having a home and listening to music and simply observing life. She never played much at all. She was with us for 11 years and we thought she was older when we rescued her on the street.

Essay over!

Re: 1/13 Rusty AMPS 118

I don't know enough about cats to know whether playing means younger but with that amount of energy its hard to believe he's the age they think he is. I love hearing about his play sessions, knowing he enjoys every minute of it

Re: 1/13 Rusty AMPS 118

Morning Ella and Rusty!

I hear that NE is digging out after another one. I heard on the news last night that there is snow in every state except for FL. I guess this is one of the heavier snow falls for everyone this year. Sure sounds like it. Well travel safe!, have a good appt, and bring home some great fuds for Rusty.

Rusty!!!!!! DUDE!!!!!! I am feeling so much better!, and want to see you guys, and do something! what's up? Let me know - I am ready for anything! ~~ Mannie ~~ and thanks for all the KTSS visits - they made all the difference!

Re: 1/13 Rusty AMPS 118

Claudia here!

When Rusty was picked up on the streets of Plymouth MA in the fall of 2008, he was determined to be 10 ish. I never believed it because, as Ella says, he is so active.

My guess is that he was 6 or 7, but the Maine Coone breed comes to maturity later than most and is by nature very playful.

I'm just so happy that he is doing so well with Ella and Edward. I'll bet Rusty thinks he died and went to heaven. With me, he dealt with at least 7 other cats. When he was adopted the first time, there were 4 other cats.

Hats off to Ella and Edward for adopting my beautiful Rusty boy.

Re: 1/13 Rusty AMPS 118, +3.5 100

Hi again,
I'm home safely. Roads were pretty good. Dermatologist appointment was uneventful (and even on-time!!). Got some food for Rusty and went to the Walmart in Potsdam to get strips (didn't really need them, but a bird in the hand . . .)

Hey Claudia, Thanks for your assessment of Rusty's age. I would agree that now 8 going on 9, or 9 going on 10 is closer to the way he behaves than 11 going on 12, or 12 going on 13. (even allowing for late maturity). Whatever! He's a total joy and we love him very much. Phoebe gives you the credit for getting him so well regulated (I'm sure she shares in it). Thank you both!!!

Celi:

Mannie, my pal, I'm so glad you're feeling better. I'll be over later to help you re-stack your nanners.
Rusty

+9 110. I think I'll begin a new cartridge tomorrow. Rusty's numbers are a bit higher, even with the fatter dose.

Re: 1/13 Rusty AMPS 118, +3.5 100, +9 110

Claudia I think I joined FDMB when Rusty was on his road trip. Ella sharing his condo with us every day is a joy. It is so heartwarming to see how loving he is with his new family. Until today, I never heard the story of who found him or how he was found. I had assumed he was a surrender due to his diabetes. You guys are all amazing people.

Re: 1/13 Rusty AMPS 118, +3.5 100, +9 110

Hi Ella, I agree with Karrie, reading about Rusty's play sessions every day, is an absolute joy. He sounds like so much fun to interact with. :-D
I'm very glad your derm appt was uneventful.

Re: 1/13 Rusty AMPS 118, +3.5 100, +9 110

Glad that you made it here and back safely. Glad too that the appt was uneventful. Have a great night guys! What's on for this evening?

Rusty - YAY! That would be so cool. I could use some help with the stacking - the keep falling over! ~~ Mannie
