hey, if u get a minute, please send along a pic of Figgy, the Wonder Civvie !!!
Here is a pic of Figgie (AKA Tinky, Tink Tink, Stinker, Figer terd, Figs, Sharky, Figgler, monkey, etc. Both my kitties have a zillion nick names). He is a very unique kitty!!! He is a little old man, going on 14 this year, but he is a little guy (8-9lbs) and looks like a kitten. He's stealth, loves to play, can jump to the top of the ceiling and catch flies in mid-air. He's kind of a little bad ass. Oh- and he doesn't like anyone else but ME! Haha!:woot:

THANK YOU!!! He is super cute, especially since he is so tinky (small) and every one always wants to hold him. But NOPE... only Mommy!! Hubby calls him my 'familiar'.
:smuggrin::):).... funny how they can be a one person only cat ....Elmo was my daughter's kitty and very much that way til she went away to college...

+1 = 168. So he went up 7 points from his PS number. His PS test was at 6:50 PM and he didn't receive insulin until 7:35PM. Will test again at +2.

Wonder if he is going to bounce again after today/tonight.

That's basically the same number with meter variance so no food spike. I am betting his +2 will be down.

See you at 9:30 your time....or around then.

Not bad. What do you think about splitting the difference and testing at +3.5?

I'm only basing that on the fact that he's been a lot lower at +2 on previous cycles BUT he also started higher Thor nights so he had further to come down. As PS numbers are lower, the drop is not quite as steep but that doesn't mean he won't drop.

OTOH, since we don't know what he'll do from a lower start, I don't want us to get any surprises.

3.5 test sounds like a plan. Then I can post before you hit the hay in case you are interested in seeing where he is at.

I have no idea what to expect since this is his first blue PS cycle.

BTW...he ate about .5 oz of FF chicken about 10 mins ago. Normal snack time (well a little late since we are off a bit on shot time).

I know. And probably, if I'd said +3, he would have been 165. But because I suggested +3.5, he'll probably be 65. Yes...that is the way it works around here.

oh no!!

Well, Ozzy just had an upset tummy and threw up a little bit, just liquid. If this doesn't clear in the next day or so, I'm calling his vet. My car was in shop all day but got it back tonight, so will be headed out tomorrow to pick him up some probiotics.

I just cleaned out his LB again to check his poo and found a soft one. It is not super loose or waterey like diarrhea, just soft. The atrocious smell was not there...a little smelly..but not like before so that part is an improvement for today. I am going to give the rest of the raw in fridge to figgie tomorrow (last day before I have to toss it) and skip raw for a few days and see how it goes. Maybe that is messing with his tummy? He is hungry again. Going to wait till next test in a few mins and then give him another small snack.

Well darn, Ozzy. I was hoping the vomiting and soft poo were going to be in absentia today.

Not bad at all! I'd just try a couple tsp LC and maybe retest in 30 mins to see how fast he's still dropping.

Tricia should be on shortly to check on you. Are you ok until then? She's probably watching and standing by because that is the kind of reliable she is :):)

I hope it's a nice green surf night with no drama. I'll check in on you all in the morning.

Night!

Nighty Marje. Hope you have a restful and peaceful slumber.

He just got a snack and I am monitoring him, so we will be ok. I know the drill. Might not be perfect, but he's going to live through the night! :)

Hoping for some green too!!

Hi Jo.

Marje asked me to take over so she could go to bed.

I am thinking the GI problems might have more to do with several different foods in a short space of time than anything else. I think it is a good idea to pick one an stick with it for a while. Then, when you want to change, do a slow transition.

Looks like a nice, gentle slide so far. I'd go with Marje's suggestions of feeding a little LC and testing in 30.

Hi Tricia! Thanks for keeping an eye on us! Very much appreciated. No panicking over here yet. :woot: Hoping for some greens in a bit here, but dark greens, not light greens!!

Thanks for your feedback on the GI problems. Ya...I got a little crazy on Dr. Lisa's food list about a week ago and got a ton of different kinds of foods. Maybe it was just too much. We decided today to just stick with FF for now since he did well on that for the first few weeks home from the hospital. We have the chicken, turkey giblets, and beef variety pack. Is it ok to switch between these 3 of the same brand, or when you say stick with one for awhile, do you mean like one flavor one brand only for awhile?

Yes, I think it is okay to switch flavors within the brand. It's just that kitties' tummies seem to like consistency. Switching too much too fast can cause upset. Everything I've ever read recommends doing it gradually. I had a problem with tummy upset with my civvie Sasha when I switched her food all at once, so I learned the hard way.

ok, thank you. So I'm hoping this is what is going on. If we need to take him back to the vet in the next few days, we will. But I want to see if his tummy upset is due to the food smorgasbord over the last week and if we can settle it down on our own. I'm not one to run to the drs/vets for every little thing. Like to try home remedies, first and see if we can figure it out before going in. I don't think this is an emergency or for sure we'd be at the vets office.

When Sasha had her tummy problems due to food switches, how long did it take to settle down and get back to normal?

Really hope he doesn't bounce tomorrow, he's had such a great day!!

But if he does.... well, it's kind of expected and we will keep taking it one day at a time!

He is eating a .5 oz snack right now. He was hungry...been in and out of the kitchen for the last 15 mins wanting some nummies. He has had about 3.5 -4 oz of food since his PS.

Okay! That was a relatively slow slide down to the lagoon. Now we need Ozzy up on his surfboard. This shouldn't trigger a bounce, but never say never with a cat! I was just typing the suggestion that you give him a snack when your post popped up that he was eating. Great minds...

Yay! I hope he just surfs and we wake up to another blue PS. That would be SO awesome! But I know he leads in this dance, so we are just on the side lines and 'reactive'!

I don't plan to give him another snack until his 3am snack in his autofeeder (he gets upset tummy if he doesn't get a snack for a long time before his breakfast). Will only put down another .5 oz snack. If he drops low though, we will obviously give him some more LC or MC depending on where his numbers are.

When should we test again? I think his nadirs are now around +5 to +6. I was thinking maybe +5 and if he looks ok, to give him a break for the rest of the night. His poor ears look like they have been through a war. Do they always look like this with all the frequent testing?? I see people who test their kitty 10xs more than we test Ozzy and I just wonder what their poor kitties' ears look like? We stopped putting on Neosporin, because either he was allergic to it or he hated it and was pawing at his ears. Not sure, but they were getting red down past where we were testing him and at the bottom of his lobe it looked really bruised (we don't test there, but maybe he was pawing at it because he didn't like the Neosporin on it). We only used the Neosporin cream vs ointment. Any difference in the cat's tolerance to having it on their ears?

How about getting a +5.5 and if he's still surfing then, call it a night

This is actually a pretty normal lantus cycle....onset of action between +2 and +3 and then a slow down ....he dropped 50 points between +2 and +3, but between +3 and +4.5, he'd slowed to only 28 points

Hopefully, since there's no fast, quick dives this time and IF he can stay in some nice 70/80's for awhile, he may not bounce by AMPS

Chris and China, thanks for checking in on us! I hope you all are staying warm out there!!

I'm so pleased with Ozzy today. He's had such a great day and we are so happy! He's never had normal healing numbers this long and it's been like ALL DAY! Yay!

I'm on board for the +5.5. Thanks for the suggestion. I would really like to give him a break, too. He's a sweet kitty and really tolerates me testing him well, but has been a bit fussy with Hubby a few times.

Fingers crossed no bounce!!

I think the 5.5 test is a good compromise.

We recommend using the Neosporin ointment with pain relief, not the cream, although I'm not sure what the reasoning is against the cream. I just know I was told not to use the cream. I used the ointment on both Cinco's and Harvey's ears, and they never had a bad reaction. Harvey's ears looked like Swiss cheese when we first started testing him, but the ointment healed them right up and once they got used to the testing, you'd never have known I was poking him so often (and I am a testaholic - check out his SS if you don't believe me).

Thanks Tricia! This is great advice. I actually thought the cream would be better since it absorbs quickly and I thought the ointment would be greasy. I will be at the store tomorrow so will get the ointment and try again. Thanks!

+5.5 sounds like a plan!

The ointment is like a petroleum, product (think "Oil")....then when you add blood (which is mostly water) it's repelled from the ointment. If you use a cream, instead of having the "oil and water" example, you the blood tends to "mix into" the cream

@Chris & China Thanks Chris. Good info to know. I just posted something silly on your condo. Hope you get a good chuckle. Hubby and me were laughing pretty good at it!!!
