Once again I'm going to try and find a dose that works for her b.i.d. Split-dosing was helping for awhile, but she is starting to really resent all the shots, she tolerates the being given shots twice a day but has started running from me and growling when I go to give her the second one on the splits. So its time to find a dose that will work for her with just two shots a day.

Last night with just the single pm shot was the first time in awhile that she came to bed with me again, and this morning was purring and cuddling again. I think she is just over all the sticks. She still comes running to be tested, she really dislikes those second shots. So for now I'm gonna go with 1u b.i.d. and see how she does, this morning's amps shows promise. I just don't want to make her hate me or see me as the person that just keeps sticking her with needles. She has come so far in learning what it is like to be loved, and played with, that to have her run from me instead of to me, and growling at me is breaking my heart.

I was so happy to have her back in bed with Maxwell, Jane and myself last night that I feel like maybe going back to b.i.d. is the best thing I can do for her right now.

Musette is so beautiful, Mel! You've worked wonders with her. "I was so happy to have her back in bed with Maxwell, Jane and myself last night" -- how lovely to read this. As much as we want our kitties well regulated, their quality of life is so very important too.

Enjoy the day,
Eva

P.S. Every time I see your photo of Musette, I smile. :-D

Re: 1/13 Musette amps 197

Thanks Eva,

I would love to have her well regulated and even possibly OTJ, but her happiness is the most important thing to me right now..I don't think she has had a very happy life up until now. She was a very angry little girl when she first came here. I just went to check on her since she wasn't out in the livingroom with me, and she was flinging her catnip mousie around the bedroom having a ball. She saw me come in and came running over to be cuddled...Now that is the Musette I want to see...Happy, playful and loving. Not looking for somewhere to hide away from the mean lady with a needle. Since there is a good chance that she will always be insulin dependent I just can't have her fearing those shots, even if that means she will always be a bouncey girl, at least she is happier this way.

Re: 1/13 Musette amps 197, +2~108, +3~59

Well we have the first green in a week, just far too early in the cycle...Gave her a tsp of Friskies Mixed Grill (8% carbs), hopefully that will help to slow her down some, checking again in an hour. Fed her a little more Mixed Grill at +4 and will continue to watch her closely...when she decides to go down she really decides to go down, but boy is she going to bounce off this one.

I do have HC food handy if I need to slow her down some more, just she is so carb sensitive I hate pulling it out unless we really need it to avoid hypo.

I understand about the carb sensitivity - In preparation for Sophisticat's reformulation, I've been upping the Pro Plan and Fancy Feast content in meals ... with predicatble effects. I can't get any more of the Sophisticat Turkey and Giblents right now, and Spitzer is running in the high 300s-400s as I carefully increase the Lantus to handle the increase in carbs. He's up to 2.5 units, and it isn't enough; I've been checking mid-day and adding in some Humulin N to carry him to the evening.

*sigh*

and I've missplaced 1 of the meters with data on it so I've nto been able to transcribe it!

And of course she picks today to pull this when I'm sick as a dog with a cold and really just want to be in bed all day. But I guess this means she has earned her first dose reduction.

I still can't believe that she is 12 years old and is just now learning what toys are! How can you have an animal for that long and never play with them or pick them up and cuddle them? When I first got her and would pick her up to snuggle her, she would go stiff as a board, now she lets me not only pick her up but will flip over on her back in my arms to I can hold her like a baby.

Last night I had Maxwell on one side of my pillow and Musette on the other side, with Lady Jane Grey curled up on my chest, there was no way they were gonna let momma get cold...

Yay!!! Numbers are starting up, never thought I would be so happy to see her start to rise before +6 in my life. She will get her lunch here in about 45 minutes Then hopefully I can talk her into taking a nap with mom so I can put my poor feverish body to bed for awhile, without worrying about her dropping into the basement again.

Hopefully she won't bounce too high off this.

Mel,

I often wonder when I hear that a cat is OK with the ear tests but not the shots. It makes me wonder about shot technique. My Ennis didn't like neck shots because his skin was so tight that it pinched him to pull up a tent. That's why I shot straight into his side or belly. He didn't even notice them. It also makes me wonder about Lantus. I have seen some people say that Lantus can sting.

Venita,

Musette absolutely will not let me shoot the scruff, she bites if I try there, so I have been shooting her in the side, which she is fine with when she has her face in a bowl of fud. Its those second shots with the split doses that she growls at me and tries to duck away from the shot. I've even tried dividing up her fud so that she can be eating when she gets both splits again it is a no go with her. She will walk away from her dish if she thinks she is going to get that second shot. That is why I'm trying to find her a dose that works for her b.i.d. I've even worked with her on letting me tent when I don't have a needle in hand, because I wondered now that she has plumped up again if it was pinching her, she has no problem with me tenting anywhere on her body, except the scruff...no touchy the scruff. So that isn't what she is reacting to, it is strictly the second shot on the splits. So it is either she doesn't like those second shots or the Lantus stings her, but I would think if it was the Lantus stinging her, she would react to the first shots as well.

She has two places on her body that are off limits to touching, her scruff and her toes...not like I would shoot her toes..lol but toes are also off limits, but I have a feeling that is because she is front declawed...Muse was the same way...no touchy the toes! Musette like Muse also licks her front feet, which I have seen in a lot of front declawed kitties so I think it is the nature of the beast when they are front declawed, they just hate to have those toes messed with.

Other than fighting me on those second shots of the splits, she is one happy, plump little girl, today with just the single shot this am she was clearly happier, Of course she is gonna bounce tonight due to the low this am, but we will get through that. I can tell she was happier because when I woke up from my nap, she was stretched out in the sun belly up, using her catnip mousie as a pillow..

Re: 1/13 Musette +10~448, pmps~475 BOUNCE!

Well so much for hoping she wouldn't bounce really high...<sigh> I went ahead and gave her that 1u tonight to help her bring down that bounce and will shave down her dose in the morning. Other than being sky high from going so low this morning she is acting much better, came running to get her tests and for her shot this evening. She has been playing all day as well. When I went to give her, the pm shot she came bringing me her yellow mousie...She seems to have a real preference for yellow, all the toys she really loves are yellow...yellow jingle ball, yellow mousie...now if I could just find her a nanner I bet she would be in 7th heaven.
