Good Afternoon LL!
Yesterday Muffin ate very little, even with my offerings of turkey and rotisserie chicken. I gave her pepcid on 1/10, after talking with the vet, and, while she did a little that evening, it didn't seem to make much difference. I've been trying since then to get her to eat on her own, without using pepcid or cypro. Although the vet had recommended giving cypro for a few days, I was wary of doing that because I didn't know if her stomach was upset or not. Plus, if something IS wrong, I didn't want to throw that in the mix or to mask symptoms. So he recommended bringing her in for full BW panel and a spec fpli.
The main reason I'm posting, however, is this. When I was talking to the vet getting Muffin's thryoid results, I happened to mention that 3-4 times over the past week I had noticed what could have been her losing her balance. It only happened when she was walking around the keyboard on the desk, so slow, tight turns. And it was so very slight, that I almost wasn't sure it was happening. He suggested checking her anal glands, because sometimes impacted glands can make them a little wobbly in the hind quarters. So today when she went in, he checked her anal glands, and sure enough, one of them was impacted, swollen and sore. She screamed from the back room when he expressed it (poor little thing). He said this is not nearly as common in cats as it is in dogs, and I don't think any of my cats have EVER been checked for this, so it does not seem to be a regular part of a kitty check up, like it is a dog check up.
Since we've gotten home, Muffin is obviously feeling better, she's eating much better, she's exploring the house, attacking the drooler...not really playing yet, but she's my little sidekick again, instead of being in her own room in her bed like she's been the majority of the last couple days. So while this may not be the only thing going on with her, it does seem to have played a major role in making her feel a little off.
So I just wanted to mention it - have kitty's anal glands checked from time to time.
Will post tomorrow with bw results and then again whenever the fpli results come back.
