Looks like the depot from the increase is working and hoping for a mostly green day for the Doodles. He's been a happy and active boy, eating good and no potty issues (anti jinx) Doodles 1/11

Marje suggested Halo Purely as an alternative to Neosporin. Sometimes it just looks like his ears get a little irritated from it so looking to try something else. Any thoughts on Bacitracin Ointment?

Ok kitties, be good to the beans and surf safely today!

I don't know of any alternative ointments, but I am interested in hearing suggestions. My cats do well with Neosporin, but I am allergic to it (and to many antibiotics). It's not horrible on my hands, but I was afraid that I would go blind when Mandarin spit his liquid Clindamycin in my eyes last year.

That's horrible! I'm allergic to oral AB's but topical I seem to be OK with. Bacatracin is very comparable to Neosporin so I'm going to pick it up before ordering the Halo. Unfortunately I use the same ear 90% of the time because the other one just doesn't like to cooperate. This ear takes nothing to get a drop out of where the other I have to try multiple times :( I wonder if the Halo would be better for your allergies http://www.vitacost.com/halo-purely...WGB4-KWfQGRSp-MIgEEMjXfI8VUe_2ZskSxoCoxrw_wcB

BTW Carla, you were right about the garage interest...I've created a monster that wants to go out there almost every day
It only takes one time for them to learn something and expect it to be normal.

I can only test on one of Furball's ears because she is sensitive to her other ear being touched because she gets chronic ear infections. I had to learn to move around the tip of her and and try not to poke the same place twice. I always put a tiny dab of neosporin on after each test, but if I put too much I can't get a blood drop. If you know you're done testing for the night, you can smear a good bit of neosporin (or whatever you use) on and help the ear to heal.

Nice start for Doodles. You should see some green today. I wish there was a chip they could put in the to tell their BG. I hate to have to keep poking Toby's ears. I guess we have to do what we have to do.

I think there is a butterfly collar or something they could wear but it's not accurate. Think my vet commented about it. Doodles is chasing the Moo around like she is his toy:rolleyes:

I do not like to use the antibiotic ointment (or any antibiotics) unnecessarily and I worry that daily use is a bad idea. But I think that a soothing ointment like the one Bobbie and Bubba mentioned might be a good alternative. Gonna go order that now!

Morning :coffee::coffee::coffee:

Looking good Doodles! Love all that green. :D:cool:

No suggestions on the ointment. We just used the neo-sporin. Mannie has no issues with it.

Enjoy your day today!

I use Young Living Essential Oil brand--Tender Tush…. Drevons ears have no irritation. I test often and I absolutely love this product. I have used YLEO for years and this product for many things this is another to add to the "awesome" list :)
Another benefit…. completely safe if any other cats lick it etc… dogs -anything… totally safe. It does have a essential oil smell but after a day or 2 Dre didnt mind at all, actually I think he likes it on the ears as it must feel good. They make something called "animal scents" as well but I prefer TT-

Good to see Doodles working that increase! :D

We have Polysporin Complete in Canada. Sort of like Neosporin, but no neomycin (which is the ingredient most are allergic to) and with pain relief with lidocaine. The Polysporin in the US that I've seen doesn't have the pain relief but still has the healing part but without neomycin. PM me if you'd like to give it a try.

Neko invites Doodles to her pool party - raw venison on tap for her. Nom nom, better than cooked.

Thanks for the offer Wendy but for now I picked up some bacitracin and it does not say "pain relief" on it. I saw Polysporin too. His ears aren't horrible but sometimes I think they are more sensitive and a little redder after I use the Neosporin. Told Doodles about the pool party and he's licking his chops!

That is really something, @Wendy&Neko !
Don't know what to say about the various ointments. The pain-relief seems to be important when using on a long-term basis. We use Neosporin--both the ointment and the creme. I prefer the creme since it absorbs better. To get the blood to bead up before pricking the ear, I simply use vaseline.

I am allergic to penicillin (anaphalaxis), but have never had a problem with Neosporin.
