Hi all,

Raven is still not eating since Thursday. He is getting food and water through feeding tube. His numbers are coming back a bit on continued dose of 2.75u after yesterday‘s high.

He seems constipated and is trying to poop frequently with only small amounts coming out. Mostly chickpea sized (all yesterday afternoon and this morning at 7) and the last two more dry gherkin sized (at 8 am and 11:30). When he was straining to poop around 11 with no success he gagged afterwards and threw up a little bit once.

He is on Cerenia once ever 24 hours and his next dose is due in an hour. I also apply Mirataz topically to ears ever 24 hours in the evening. He also gets 50mg of Gabapentin twice daily (he‘s a big boy - before all this he was 18lbs but according to inteenist he has lost some weight. Not sure how much. His spine sticks out a bit and his flanks are slightly fallen in, but his belly is still very round (so round that I can‘t get him into most post surgery suits for cats of his length).

When I spoke to both internist and my primary vet on Friday they said they don‘t see a need to bring him to ER over weekend unless he throws up more and is generally declining. He does not seem to be generally declining and just vomited a very small amount after straining himself. So I think I will continue to monitor.

I would love to give him something to help with the constipation, but the ER could not advise over phone if that‘s safe for him given his overall condition. Of course my miralax is also expired and I can‘t find and pysllium husk. Have not used it in a long time.

Update: he just threw up again (all bile) and then pooped right after.

You might ask the vet to try Lactulose for the constipation or just go buy another jar of Miralax if that works. Does his belly look swollen like there could be fluid in it? Was it like that when he saw the vet? That would concern me.

I don‘t have the heart to take him out of his box bed right now to check but when I touched his belly earlier it seemed like usual and not hard. Not sure what fluid buildup looks like, but for what it‘s worth, he always has a big belly. He‘s just slightly overweight.

This was him in his litter box just after he threw up tried to post picture but too big). Did not make to make it sound like he has a balloon belly - that‘s definitely not the case.

I am overdue for his midday feedding and skipped his 10:00 am snack earlier due to vomiting and not wanting to trigger his stomach. I just gave him cerenia via tube and 15 ml of water to flush. I think I may hold off on food a bit longer. Any thoughts on feeding (and overall to bring or not bring to ER)? @Wendy&Neko and others?

I'd try feeding small amounts, at least 30-45 minutes after the Cerenia.

Do you have any BG or ketones level tests today after AMPS?

A website with some info that might help: https://www.felineconstipation.org/index.html

I just tested ketones. 0.2, which is normal and back to pre-pancreatiris levels.

I gave Cerenia and water around 2 and fed him slowly and gave more water at around 3. So far no more throwing up. Really hope it stays that way. Haven‘t done anything but sat by his crate today. Not even eaten or brushed my teeth and it‘s 5pm… Will do that now and then gotta finish preparing a work presentation. Really hope he stays stable.
