Happy Friday LL! Zener is doing fine this morning. Appy was OK. He ate the first two bowls on his footstool then I had to chase him around with the third. He said he wanted to go outside, then changed his mind when he saw the snow and felt the blast of cold air. Then he ate in the windowsill, then he did actually go outside but didn't eat, then he finished up in bed while Anne was still asleep. At least we got our exercise. :-D

Re: 1/11 Zener AMPS 202

No kidding! I think I've finally found the magic combo meals for Tess and haven't had to go through that in awhile. When is the ultrasound scheduled?

Re: 1/11 Zener AMPS 202

Glad Zener's appy is okay and hope it gets betterer! :-D So cute with the three breffifs and the last one in bed with Anne. I bet he eats so quiet so as not to wake her, sweet Zener. Lots of good exercise there, too! Have a nice day.
This is "poo holiday" for Mags.

Morning guys nice slide down to green today! LOL on eating the breakfast all over the house, sounds familiar, Scrabble likes to finish his in his bed most of the time! Hope you have a Happy Fursday!

Re: 1/11 Zener AMPS 202;+2 162;+3.5 99

Very nice slide! Too funny on eating all over the house. Have a great day ladies! Oh, and you too Zener!

The mighty Z is weeble wobblying around the edge of the green lagoon this cycle and right now is dabbling his paddy paws in the green waters. We are adding more water to Zener's foods and his drinking has decreased from 1 cup per 24 hours to 1/4 cup. He also seems to be able to sit and eat his fuds without stopping to go get a drink too.

@Ann & Tess - we are dreading the food trying again. It was such an ordeal the first time around and we have only three wet foods he will eat with regularity. Of course, they are in the mid to high range for phosphorous. The ultrasound is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon. Last time he had one, they were able to do everything without any sedation. He is such a trooper. Thanks for the offer of Tess's SS. Liz is working on it. We can't seem to find our last labs, but we will ask for a copy at the vet next week when we go for the US.

@Ann & Maggie - it's just one of those iffy appy days. He seems to have these less often than in the past, so we are grateful for that! I LOVE "poo holiday"!

@Michelle & Scrabble - it's a classic Zener slide. :mrgreen:

@Anne & Muffin - it's funny, in the beginning of FD treatment, we tried to keep eating places the same as before FD and didn't want things "messy". Now, we don't care where he eats as long as he eats.

@macal - his numbers are very good today, and we are practicing Zener's instructions "pet more, worry less". ;-) After the ultrasound Wednesday, we should know a little more about possible infection, but our vet is pretty confident it is early kidney disease. We are so grateful for all the wonderful support and resources here in LL. People know all about CKD too!

It is finally too cold today for the kitties to go out. Zener tried for a picnic and our neighbor came out with her snow shovel, too loud! We won't get out of the 20s F today and wind chills have us near zero. Smart kitties! We had our animal communicator check in with the kitties this week, so we are waiting to hear from her to find out what the kitties have to say about this latest development.

Nice to see Zener dipping his toes in the lagoon. Neko says that it's much warmer in the lagoon than outside, so he should dive right in.

Zener's water consumption has gone down quite a bit, so it looks likes you have a good plan for feeding. Now about trying new fuds! Maybe there's some new ones out there since the last time you did that dance. On the B/W, the last time I got the vet to email me the results. You can always ask.

Re: 1/11 Zener AMPS 202;+2 162;+3.5 99;+4.5 108;+6 95

Hi Anne and Liz! What a great day for Zener! another kitty green. I have been so out of the loop that I didn't realize Zener needs an U/S. Hope that goes well. Mannie is going for one on Tuesday, trying to find the cause for his current issues. I will hope all is well with Zener. Good luck!

Sure is cold there! We hit 28 this morning. BRRRR! No now though, just a cold sunny day. Kinda nice actually.

Enjoy your day today - I hope it is a good one!

Re: 1/11 Zener AMPS 202;PMPS 137

Not a bad cycle today, started just barely in sun-up sunny yellow, then slid to blue and green and wobbled around the edges of the green lagoon, with a nice blue PMPS. :-D

@Wendy & Neko - Neko knows all about water, being you live by lots of it. Thanks for the "dive right in" tip Neko! :thumbup We are seeing definite drop in his drinking now that we are adding more water to his fuds, and I had less to scoop out of the litter box this morning too. Liz and I are going "fuds" shopping for the big guy tomorrow, so we'll start trying a few at a time and see what happens. Thanks for the idea on the BW, our vet can fax it to us, but not email yet, so we'll get a hard copy on Wednesday when we go back to the clinic for the ultrasound.

@Michelle & Mannie - Zener and Mannie will have matching belly shaves! How sweet... The vet wants a look at his kidneys to rule out any infection as the C & S doesn't always grow bugs, but we will do that too. And she wants a baseline view on his kidneys in early CKD. They did an U/S months ago for something else, so it will be good to see if anything has changed. The poor guy was drinking and peeing more, despite the good BG numbers and we had labs run, with results looking like early kidney disease.

Zener and Tillie had some nice backyard rounds this afternoon under a bright sunny sky and a balmy 24 degrees F. In the sun, it felt nice but when the breeze kicked up or you got in the shade it was crispy cold. Zener had a picnic tonight despite the frigid temps!

Wishing all in LL and drama-free and calm Friday evening. cat_pet_icon

Re: 1/11 Zener AMPS 202;PMPS 137

Hey Zen Man, I has a shaved belly too from my vetty, it feels nice & cool down there!! I eats all over the house too..I likes a smorgasboard  Lubs you a lot--Moonie!

Hi! Know what you mean about eating all over the house..I have 1 water and 3 food plates in bedroom, and a water bowl & another chicken treat plate in the LR!! So Princess Moonie has food & drink wherever she goes--Thankful that she eats & drinks!!
Hope the tests will help sweet Zen Man with whatever ails him- Sending love to you all from us!!!

Re: 1/11 Zener AMPS 202;PMPS 137

Nice slideage Z man! Good news on less to scoop.

For the B/W, my vet's staff went onto the Idexx website and there was a way there to send the results via email and enter an email address. My vet doesn't have the ability to email from their place either, it came directly from Idexx. But Wednesday isn't far away now.

Re: 1/11 Zener AMPS 202;PMPS 137

Nice day for Zener! I hear ya on the fuds trials    ...hopefully you'll find something that fits all of Zs criteria!!

Re: 1/11 Zener AMPS 202;PMPS 137

I think that's what my vet did once too. I actually liked it a lot better, because the vets printouts are always so faint i can barely read them. They must not have many owners who want copies of the lab results.

Re: 1/11 Zener AMPS 202;PMPS 137

Hi guys,

So nice to read that Zener is eating well and not drinking too much water. And that dip into the lagoon was an added bonus (LagoonMeister Rusty was keeping an eye on him from the shore).

Have a good weekend. We are continuing to send good thoughts Zener's way.

Re: 1/11 Zener AMPS 202;PMPS 137

Nice slide!!

Do you know what his potassium is? That's another number to watch. Whatever the level of K is in the blood, it is lower in the cells. You want to be sure it is above 4 but 4.5 is even better.

I'm sure you are supposed to get the same cold front as us. It's been cold and windy here all day.

It is 4.5, what is the importance of K?

Yep, our high today was 24 and I think 21 is the high for tomorrow. We won't get above freezing until mid-week and will be below zero at night until then too. Brrrrrr!

Re: 1/11 Zener PMPS 137;+2.5 255

Potassium is extremely important for proper muscle function and that includes the heart muscle. If potassium levels are low, it can result, among other things, metabolic acidosis (which is very different from DKA) and high blood pressure. Diabetics with CKD may be more prone to low potassium levels. High potassium levels can also impact heart functions.

Often times low potassium will also result in stiff gaits, muscle weakness and wasting, to name just a couple of many symptoms. Supplementation with potassium gluconate (Tumil K) usually has quick results but I would not supplement unless levels are below 4 and your vet is on board.

Re: 1/11 Zener PMPS 137;+2.5 255

Hot off the email presses, our AC report!

Your kitties love you both so very much! Queen Tillie is content and especially enjoying the heat of the sun when it comes thru the windows on these cold winter days.Zener has some kidney involvement but not an infection. At least not that I sense from him. The water drinking and extra peeing seems to be stress directly on the kidney's. What did the blood work show this week? Did the vet recommend anything?

Zener feel good these days. He is more energetic and playful. Is it possible to add plain pumpkin to his food? It is a great source of fiber....and will help the anal gland problem. Because it is high fiber - it should not impact his blood sugar very much. Start with a very very small amount added to his food. If he accepts that - then increase the amount slowly to 1 tsp per day.

ETA: Looks like we have flat yellows, so ni ni LL. I-)
