All--Happy New Year to you!

Thanks again for your comments to my post "12-29 acromegaly" and all your encouragement. Rui is scheduled for SRT at Red Bank Veterinary Hospital tomorrow. He had a CT scan on Thursday and he does indeed have a acro tumor. (Why I thought there was a chance he wouldn't, I have no idea!) Dr. Dustin Lewis is performing the procedure (I've seen his name mentioned on this board). He's very thorough and knowledgeable about acromegaly and treatment and for the first time in a long time, I feel hopeful for Rui. We opted for the 5 day SRT although Dr. Lewis also advised us about a longer treatment (4 weeks, Monday through Friday-lower daily dose of radiation, but larger cumulative dose overall). We thought that would be too much for Rui (20 days of anesthesia). I hope we made the right decision about that since the longer treatment did have better outcomes for remission, etc. I'm nervous and hopeful at the same time! I can't thank you all enough for sharing your experiences with me. I will let you know how everything goes.

Susan, such a bittersweet moment for you. :bighug: I know it well. You finally have answers as to why Rui isn't responding to insulin but you've jumped right on getting Rui some treatment. Good on you. This is great news for Rui. :) I also went the shorter course of SRT route, but I had to travel a couple thousand miles to get the treatment so it's the only option that worked for us. I also agree with the less anesthesia option. Neko just had a dental last week and I still get nervous whenever she's out.
(Why I thought there was a chance he wouldn't, I have no idea!)
Denial - been there, done that. It's very common. :bighug: When I arrived in Colorado after three long days of travel - I was relieved to see the tumor had made our trip worth while.

Best of luck this next week - and do keep us posted. A few of us here have been through it so feel free to ask questions. We'll be cheering you and Rui on.

I just wanted to send additional comfort vines for your journey with SRT at Red Bank tomorrow :bighug::bighug: Even though I have no experience with this situation, I understand completely how stressed you must be given the circumstances- please let us know how you are doing!

Sending good SRT prayers your way! You're in my neck of the woods - I live in Central NJ, and although it's been quite a while, I've been to Red Bank, too (with our lymphoma kitty, before veterinary oncologists were as "plentiful" as they are today).

Exciting. Anxious, sure, but oh so exciting. My Polly and I traveled 750 miles to Colorado State last September for SRT. Protocol there called for three frations over three days. Phenomenal experience. Absolutely worthwhile.

If I had to walk backward and make the decision all over again. No doubt. I would.

Polly was at 10.5 U Lantus prior to SRT. Now, 5.25 U. And still bit by bit coming down the dosing scale. She's feeling better, looking better, and I'm sure if she could "talk" to me she'd say, "Thanks."

Bushels of wishes for you and Rui. Please keep us posted.

Sending you mant vines. ...I do not have experience with it either but have heard so many success stories on the boards. ....so excited for you!!!

Best Wishes and Good Vines being sent for Rui's first day of SRT. I like Red Bank a lot.
Let us know how it goes.

adding my congratulations to your decision. I hope that everything goes really well. Will be thinking of you guys. Please let us know how things go. Even though punkin didn't go off of insulin, I am still glad we did the SRT.
