Finally talked to the vet today about the ketones numbers, Smokey's overall just not seeming to be making any progress, her stinky mouth. All the things adding up to - looking for something else going inside that the blood-work and physical exams aren't telling us about.

She would like us to go to the UofMN instead of going local for the ultrasounds because they could do a more comprehensive workup. When she realized that we had not done any antibiotics at all since the numbers went up this time and nothing around the dental work, we decided to do a round of Clavamox first just to if infection is what we are dealing with while hubby and I work on getting at trip to the cities fit into our schedules.

So tonite we start our antibiotics and see where that takes us.

Good luck with the ABs. I hope it is "just" an infection that is wiped out in no time and gets Smokey back to good numbers.

There are a couple of people here who are in the Twin Cities and use the U of MN. I'll see if I can remember who!

We have been there twice now. They have been excellent for us.

Once with Peanut our kitty we lost to cancer. We went there with the hopes the mass in her chest was isolated and could come out. Found out during the pre-op echo that the cancer started in her heart walls and nothing could be done :cry: The vet we caught for Pea was the most caring vet I think you could ever find.

And we took Smokey there when she suddenly lost her voice/went hoarse back in Nov 2010 and our vet could not find the reason and wasn't comfortable doing the exploring in the throat. That's when she tested positive for calicivirus and they figured that was what caused it. Of course Smokey seemed to get her voice back the night in the hotel after her initial consult the day before her procedure.

So we have had one positive trip and one devastating trip there. Our only problem is they are 4 hrs away so it takes some scheduling to be there.

I am pretty sure Carolyn and Latte used them. Maybe Carol and Charlie too?

Wonder what that girl was up to today while everyone was gone to have her PMPS finally come back down?

I did put the 3 younger ones downstairs and closed the door today to give the older girls some peace. I figured Smokey wouldn't like it as much, she has started to play a little with them - caught her running Mitty's butt across the house this weekend with a big grin across her face, and found her in the foyer with Tiger in the middle of the night last night - but poor Taz needed a break from those boys bugging her so the older girls got the upstairs to themselves today. Must have been relaxing.
