Good morning! Happy Friday!!!

I just ordered and received a new treat for Ripley: Halo freeze-dried chicken. And the verdict is............. she just thinks it's so-so.

:?

Guess I'll stick with the less-expensive Pure Bites brand of freeze-dried treats (aka her kitty crack); it's about time she likes something a little more cost effective! Of course, can't blame me for trying to give her (what I thought was) the best. I do kind of love my girl ~ a lot. cat_pet_icon

Wishing everyone a great, healthy Friday!!

Hi Josie!
Happy Friday! Thanks for your post in Molly's condo. It made me laugh
I know what you mean about the cost of the PureBites! Molly's a big fan of the shrimp ones (and so am I because they don't leave powder everywhere like the other flavours!)

Ripley's got such a sweet expression in her photo....who could resist giving bucket loads of treats to that cute little kitty? :-D

Re: 1/11 Ripley AMPS 115

Hi Josie & Ripley,

We've had the same reaction to Halo treats (with Rusty and with Stu, before him). Another drawback is that they say to refrigerate them and that they should be consumed within 30 days. Who needs that?! I can't get Pure Bites here, but order Whole Life Freeze Dried treats online. Rusty likes them, but they are on the expensive side. Have you ever tried Grandma Lucy's? If you can find them, give them a try. The price is right and the cats seem to like them. They are roasted chicken breast meat, freeze-dried. I just checked out their website and may order some myself. We haven't had them in quite a while:

Thanks for visiting Rusty. Perhaps Ripley will see him in the lagoon later today,

Re: 1/11 Ripley AMPS 115

Morning guys! Nice amps for Ripley. My cats love Halo treats and they also love PureBites. I have been buying the pure bites lately since they are cheaper. Who knows what our kitties will like huh? I am lucky since my furbabies like almost anything, I know weird for cats huh? (anti-jinx!) Have a happy Fursday!

Re: 1/11 Ripley AMPS 115

Just a note on the PureBites - Amazon sell them.
I get the dog ones - same as for cats but larger pieces that I just break up. They do have the cat ones also.
I get the large bag to save costs and use their "subscribe & save" so its free shipping.

Remember to use link to Amazon above.

Thanks for visiting and the tips!

I didn't know about the refrigeration/exp.date for the Halo treats. Thank you!

I have yet to try Grandma Lucy's treats.

And, we've only tried the chicken and turkey ~ the shrimp is definitely on the shopping list!

Went to the movies and made it home in time for Ripley's shot. Whew! Rather long film + sooooo many previews!

Ripley's numbers (pre-shots and nadirs) seem to be gradually decreasing since her dose decrease 7 days ago. Of course, there's no way to predict any real trend ~ she is a cat after all ;-) .

It's been about 2 mos. since her CKD and anemia diagnosis; I'll likely make an appt. soon to have lab work done to check her numbers.

She is generally doing ok, if ok means drinking water, eating food, using litter box, and sleeping. Lots of sleeping. She no longer greets me when I come home, doesn't come and sit on my lap as soon as I sit down anymore, and doesn't sleep near me at night at all. She sort of preens, but I usually clean her eyes for her. Her breathing is slower and deeper, but that may be due to the anemia. And she hasn't played since pre-FD-diagnosis. I usually see about 2 of the "5 Ps" each day now. She's my old girl. And watching her age is sometimes difficult.

BUT... (looking on the bright side)... she has responded to FD treatment wonderfully. And she is getting spoiled with treats! And she loves her rocking chair.

And she is loved loved loved.

Sending healing vines, thoughts, hugs and love to ailing kitties and strength to their beans.

Re: 1/11 Ripley PMPS 101

I got your PM - howdy neighbor! I just read Ripley's profile, and see that she's had the I131 treatment. One of my civvies, Muffin's brother, has hyperthyroidism, and I'm looking to get I131 in February or March, as soon as I can afford it. I'm curious where you had it done?

Muffin and Ripley have the same pmps! I hope they can hang out at the lagoon together tonight.

Re: 1/11 Ripley PMPS 101

Ripley is so nice and steady...doing great.

You know, as far as her anemia, her HCT is not that bad. Usually the "must treat" level is 20%. My Gus is lower than Ripley and we continue with methylB 12 and Jarrows B Right supplements because once you start the erythropoietin stimulating agents, it can be a real pain...especially if they have an antibody reaction. I have not noticed any increased lethargy in Gus due to the HCT.

It is hard to watch them age and wonder where that rambunctious young cat went to. It's obvious that Ripley is extremely well loved and cared for.

Anne: I'll PM the details ~ she was actually treated in your neck of the woods!

Marje: Hello! And thanks for the reassurance. Most of the time I feel like the glass is half-full with Ripples; every now and then it seems half-empty. Feeling discouraged, overwhelmed, or just plain sad doesn't help her out. I think I'm done with my pity party now  .
(Funny, right after I typed about my concerns, she left her rocking chair, sat on my lap for a few mins., then went back to her chair. I swear sometimes she reads me too well ;-) .)
