1/11 PMBG 91, NS Again

Hello it's me again, Mel. Felix started at 316 AMPS then his BG bounced down mid-cycle. I was hoping that he would bounce up again before PMPS but the rise is pretty slow. I just reduced his dose to 2.5 units last night after skipping yesterday morning, which was the 2nd time happening this week. It is frustrating that I could not hit the right spot of his dosage. I planned on waiting for his number to go up and then shoot but after +1.5 of stalling, his number went down again. So I think it's better to not shoot again. So stressed...

Sorry you are stressed, Mel! It is such a rollercoaster ride, isn't it? My Bell is a bouncer and it can be so frustrating. On a positive note, that green cycle had some nice healing in it for Felix! He seems to be coming back down from the "no shot" cycles pretty quickly too.

@bluesunshine I just hope I am not doing any damage from skipping often. It worries me.

I'm not experienced enough to give dosage advice, but from what I've learned here is the high numbers are unhealthy if they go on for a long period of time and/or if your cat develops ketones, but a normal bounce isn't going to hurt Felix at all. You can take a look at Bell's spreadsheet to see how much she is fluctuating for me right now.

You could tag your thread with a question and ask some of the experienced folks how they would handle those NS cycles. They may suggest a reduced dose or even a full dose and can help guide you through it and build some confidence that Felix will be safe.

Hello and welcome to the Lantus forum. For those who haven't seen the background, here is the introduction post from Feline Health: https://felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/new-member-need-advice-with-lantus-shooting-dosing.296873/

I think what you are continuing to see is the successful transition to lower carb wet food. If Felix is still getting the odd bit of dry food and you are following SLGS per the signature, he earned a reduction down to 2.25 units today. I hope with a lower dose you won't have to skip.

@Wendy&Neko Thank you for answering the question of his dosage tomorrow that I was just asking myself. Yes Felix is still having a nibble of dry food but I noticed that it is getting less lately. Maybe that’s part of the reason he gets this bounce down?
