Good morning. We both slept until past 1 am on the couch, then I put her in her litter box and she peed a good amount, and that seems a good sign, right? I fed her again and then installed her for the night. She did not move, I gave her the Lovenox shot at 5 am and she was in the same position, awake and loafing.
This morning I took her to her feeding spot and she drank by herself while I was preparing everything. I overnighted some 60 ml syringes, they are huge! I had one filled but finally she ate well from a spoon: she had about 1/4 of a turkey baby food jar, and then she drank more.
I think I'm going to skip again this morning, best case scenario, she starts eating well today and she gets a little high. No big deal, I think it's better than risking a hypo?
@Bandit's Mom ? Do you agree, Bhooma? If you think I should give a token unit, I'll do it.
Thank you to all of you, I would love to answer every single message but I feel so sad, I keep crying and it's difficult, but I read everything and I appreciate you all a lot, thank you for all the love.

It's okay to skip. Let us see what she does today without insulin.

So glad to hear that she is making slow progress. Maybe different food from her usual food/what you syringe feed will tempt her to eat a bit.

Thank you, Bhooma.
That's what I did: I use only the baby food to spoon or syringe feed her (it's more smooth anyway, easier to get into the syringe), and put some of the higher carb stuff that she loves in her plate. She usually runs for it and eats it super fast. I threw away the raw food I had in the fridge and I'm waiting to thaw more, but maybe I will today, maybe smelling something she is very used to would be good?
She is now laying down in a much more normal position, maybe she'll sleep now.
She went back and forth between the heat vent and her bowl of water without stopping halfway, today. Yesterday she was so weak that she had to stop and rest halfway. It's probably 15 feet in all.

Bella loves her heat vent:kiss:

Sending you both good eating wishes. it sounds like she’s making progress, Cecile. I’m glad to read your update.
(Don’t bother yourself with responding to each of us, not necessary. Save your strength for you and Bella.)
We’re thinking of you and praying for both of you and hoping she feels a lot stronger today and wants to eat more.

I feel like walking to the heat vent is a good sign, sending you both good vibes and vines!

I am so sorry Cecile, that Bella is so unwell. That is so hard and I can imagine, you are desperate right now. Please breathe. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

I wonder if you could call a vet, maybe there is an explanation for that which is different to what you think now. I did a google search and yes, I also found that cancer could cause a change in the colour of the eyes. But it sounds to me like the colour change happens over time and what you see in Bella is a fast change. Maybe it would be good to talk to a vet. Maybe you can call the clinic. Or if that is not possible, there might be some online-vet services which can help you to decide, if Bella should see a vet or if you can stay at home and what this might means.

I am so sorry you are going through all of this. Many hugs, healing thoughts and prayers!

You are right. My cat sitter just came and stayed for a while, she helped me feed her. She thinks she looks very bad too.
I agree, I will call the clinic. I emailed my vet. I don;t want to take her back there, I think she is too exhausted to fight anymore.

Words cannot express how sorry I am—you are doing and have done everything possible for sweet Bella, and she has done everything she could as well. I hope she bounces back—I’ve come to think of her as invincible —but she will let you know if she’s ready. I pray that this is not that time, and I also pray for peace for you both if it is.

Yellow-orange color that includes the whites of the eyes can be jaundice, a sign of serious problems with her liver. I hope this is not that.

keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers. No need to respond—take care of yourself
Colleen

As far as you know Bella only has diabetes and arthritis?
And 3 times saddle thrombus in the last 3 months, so there must be some underlying cause. Everything was normal in september but pwe don't know what caused the clots.
The hepatic lipidosis kitty I fostered had yellow eyes (jaundice) and he got sick from not eating enough food. And better after assist feeding a couple weeks. I hope the vet can help you decide what Bella needs. And that the decision gives you some peace. :bighug::bighug::bighug:
I did not call the ER, the internal medicine vets are not there on weekends, nobody there will know her. I am feding her with a syringe. She had 4 full 10 ml syringes of food today

I was looking back at everything. Her bilirubin increased between september and last week, and then more than doubled since last week.
And she's been losing weight over the last 6 weeks. She felt more frail, I can feel her ribs and her arms stick out, and I was thinking that she started to look like an older cat.
All that makes me think that there might be something bad, and that her body is shutting down now.
I called a few vets, did not make the decision yet, but it could be tomorrow or Monday. I gave her Buprenorphin earlier this afternoon and it seemed to help, maybe the pain is playing a role too. Now she just came to drink, laid down by the vent again (she spent all night and day in the living room in a corner, I put a blanket there for her since that was where she wanted to be), came back to drink and looked at the food, but did not eat. She had the 2nd Mirataz 2 hours ago.
I am not stopping anything, but don't want to just try to keep her here for me and le her be in pain.

The elevated bilirubin is probably what’s causing her eye color (jaundice). The underlying cause could be several things —it sounds like it preceded her not eating but not eating can make the liver worse as Wendy notes. I assume she is taking something for nausea and it’s good you are feeding her.
I hope she improves and whatever the path taken I hope tonight is peaceful for you both.

Lying by the vent might mean she’s seeking warmth (as all cats do normally, but especially so when they’re unwell). If you have a heated cat bed or SnuggleSafe heat disc or even a heating pad or hot water bottle, it might be helpful to offer it to her. If you use a heating pad, put it on the lowest setting and make sure she can move off of it if she wants. I use SnuggleSafe discs all the time for my sick and elderly crew and have a couple of K&H heated beds as well. Sometimes they are susceptible to getting cold, especially when they’re frail.

Sending continued hugs and positive thoughts your direction. Regardless of how this journey goes, you’ll never be alone. You have an army of FDMB warriors who care and are holding you and Bella tight. :bighug:

The vent has been her favorite spot in the winter for as long as we had her. She is rarely anywhere else, except at night but the heat stops.
Scratch what I said, my French brain made a translating mistake (not good for a medical interpreter but I'm not at my full capacity today), it's the BUN that was normal then higher and even higher the 3rd time, as well as the creatinin. But given all the vomiting she had on wednesday, it's not surprising, she must have been dehydrated. The bilirubin was normal on 1/1 and was not tested on 1/9.
Her eyes are yellower but not the 'white" part, and not her skin either. I don't know if it could be because they look different because they are sunken. I gave her full dose Gaba now, will give her Buprenorphin in a few hours. I'm not testing her blood glucose, no need for more pokes.
I fed her another 20-25 ml of baby food.

Cecile, what have the doctors said about her kidney function?
