Off to the Vets.. wish us luck.

FYI.. I have another one, Little Kitten, already there. Has either lymphoma or irritable bowel. May get biopsys back today, probably tomorrow. :(

I'm so sorry to hear about Little Kitten, how sad for you. I was following your condo yesterday and want to wish you luck today at the Vet for Slashy.

Re: 1/10 Slashy AMPS 239 Update

Just got home from the Vets, who also didn't think the numbers made sense w/ a hypo episode (although now I really hope that is what it was)

Testing for feline infectious peritinitis (sp?). From what I have read, I am very nervous. His protein was a bit elevated, and he was slightly anemic. His weight hasnt change, his gums looked good. Aside from yesterdays seizure, his behaviour is what it always is. He did have a vomiting episode early last week but his numbers were ok and he ate fine. (I feared it was a pancreatitis flare up)

It will be a couple days for the results.

Thanks all for your wishes on Little Kitten. She was very happy to see us today. Even tried to eat a bit. She now has a feeding tube, which I have dealt with before (Slashy had fatty liver disease years ago). No results back on biopsies yet.

for what it's worth, obviously I'm not a veterinary professional of any kind, but I remember Jojo saying that many vets blame FIP for illnesses that they don't understand. Don't worry about FIP until the results come back, ok?

Sending good vibes to Slashy and Little Kitten.

Thanks..Vet did say that it is a very difficult condition to diagnose. Said you had to look at the blood test and all the other info. Trying not to think about it.

Did Little Kitten get an etube? Smart to have that placed to help you through the chemo. There is a great lymphoma group on Yahoo if that is what it turns out to be. Maverick had a PEG tube for ten weeks a couple years ago to help him recover from FHL.

I didn't know there was a test for FIP and that the test they do have just say whether they have ever had carona virus?

Sending more hugs for you and your gang.

Yes, on the tube. I am not sure if we are going to give chemo. Cross that bridge when it's burning beneath my feet.

You certainly have your hands full. I hope you get the labs back on both of your kitties quickly so you can at least figure out what's going on. FWIW, there are a number of people here who have cats that have been through lymphoma and IBS treatment. I'm sure they will get you set in the right direction.

My GA civvie, George, was diagnosed with a coronavirus. It never developed into FIP and he lived to the ripe old age of 20.

I would be verrrrrrrrrrrryyyyyyyyyy surprised if Slashy actually has FIP.

Best thing I have read today:) Gotta ask why you think so?

It just seems like such a big leap to go straight to FIP with an adult cat that is otherwise healthy. FIP is pretty rare in that situation. Of course it is possible, anything is possible, but there are so many other things it could be that it doesn't make sense to worry yet. What else are they testing? Did they do regular bloodwork? Any kind of neurological exam? How is his vision?

I don't know if you have "met" Jojo and Bunny, a vet tech who has spent many years helping us here in LL until her own illness has prevented her from being here for the last year or two. Last year I saved a message from Jojo when I was communicating with her about another sick cat whose vet was testing for FIP. She wanted to know if there were ascites (basically fluid in the abdomen) or fever. Wet FIP would have ascites, dry FIP would have fever, if neither of those are present then it is not FIP. That would be something to ask your vet, especially if Slashy does test positive for the coronavirus. Again, I am not a vet or vet tech and this is pretty much the extent of my knowledge about FIP, but one thing Jojo is great about is giving us an idea of what questions we should be asking our vets.
