Morning all,
things are ok here...i still feel pretty sick but better than yesterday...Rocket seems ok though hard to tell as he sometimes seeks out to hide and not sure if it's due to the poking or him not being 100%

he is not eating on his own just yet...i have to bring his food as he does not go to his bowl....and i sometimes have to either hold the dish or can or spoon the food to him....

last night

Re: 1/10 Rocket AMPS 113 +1.75 112 +2.75 74 +3.5 74 +4 90

I am so glad you are both better today. We will keep those healing vines and prayers coming. And eat, Rocket, eat!

Re: 1/10 Rocket AMPS 113 +1.75 112 +2.75 74 +3.5 74 +4 90

Claudia, I'm sorry you still are not feeling well, but glad you are a little better than yesterday. I'm also happy to hear Rocket is eating a little. Whatever you have to do to get him to eat is ok. I have a civvie that always wants me to bring the bowl to her so don't feel bad about holding Rocket's bowl while he eats. At least he has an excuse for you to cater to him. Sending healing thoughts to you and Rocket.

Hope you gets some good naps in, today, Claudia.
Sending better appetite vines to Rocket.

Re: 1/10 Rocket AMPS 113 +3.5 74 +4 90-question on insulin

i have received an email from Rocket's vet asking how he did over the weekend...
i'm giving her the update but she mentions changing insulin on Rocket saying she prefers Caninsulin over Lantus...she says she sees better results getting cats on remission on that over Lantus...

has anyone here used it?

which is better?

i don't feel comfortable changing insulins on him....i just want to educate myself....

Re: 1/10 Rocket AMPS 113 +3.5 74 +4 90 +5.5 121 -insulin ???

I wouldn't change to caninsulin...I didn't START with caninsulin as the original vet wanted me to...
If anything from what I have read, if you were wanting to change to something, why not change to levemir?
It appears that some cats (from reading and stalking condos) that don't do well with the lantus do better with levemir..
I would NOT go to caninsulin..I read so much here to convince me not to, and I have continued to read reasons not to...

My two cents...
whatever those two pennies may be worth, lol

I am happy that Rocket seems to be feeling better, and hope you start to get some rest so taht YOU can feel better...
THOUGHTS FROM EDMONTON!!!

Re: 1/10 Rocket AMPS 113 +3.5 74 +4 90 +5.5 121 -insulin ???

Not sure about the insulin change; I've always read that lantus is the "gold standard". I'm just glad to hear you all are doing a bit better. Continued healing vines!!!

Re: 1/10 Rocket AMPS 113 +3.5 74 +4 90 +5.5 121 -insulin ???

Caninsulin/Vetsulin sucks. Don't do it.
JMO, of course.

Re: 1/10 Rocket AMPS 113 +3.5 74 +4 90 +5.5 121 -insulin ???

I would not switch insulin Claudia this is JMO of course but I think after all the research I did on lantus and lev this was when Do Lou was on novolin that everything pointed to lantus and lev being so much better then vetsulin or novolin if anything I would go with PZI if I ever tried another insulin but not vetsulin. Sending healing vines to you both hope things keep improving :YMHUG: :YMHUG: cat_pet_icon

Re: 1/10 Rocket AMPS 113 +3.5 74 +4 90 +5.5 121 -insulin ???

i'm not changing him onto anything else....besides the vet really doesn't want me to give insulin until his numbers are above 270! stupid....i told her about my 0.5u bid and she doesn't seem to be convinced with the dose and if i'm doing such low dose and he is not getting any better then why do them....

my two cents are: 1) he hasn't been feeling well so shed was drained and he is not eating his reg food and he got treats to get him thru this....got him eating whatever so long as he ate 2) since he is not eating well his numbers are not like before but i'm not sweating it until he gets better....

though she knows stuff i don't think diabetes is her forte...but of course her email said it was up to me....and since it is...i'm staying put....unless of course once he gets better and eating low carb/low phos food and his #s are way up...then i would research levemir not caninsulin...the name sounds oh so funny btw...

thanks for your input guys....i really want what's best for Rocket and since i've been so drained with it all i have not done any research on anything much...lack of sleep, lack of time....lack of energy....i just needed my LL family to tell me what's going on...thanks again

i went out to get a haircut (me time...even though i feel like crap...i put it off for way too long and thought maybe this will start making me feel better)...only to come back to a few spots of thrown up food and a hairball....seemed it wasn't too long before i got home...so 1)i feel bad i left him for a couple hrs 2)no idea when he did it...3)now he didn't wanna eat...so feel bad....

since i saw him again lip smacking though he got the zofran this morning and pepcid as well...i gave him the pepcid that would have been given to him 3 hr later...so i gave it early by 3 hrs...hopefully it will be ok by when pmps time comes about....

if any one has thoughts on his #s based on his SS...please do not hesitate to let me know what they think....

have not given fat dose as i had before this ordeal started....i most likely been giving 0.5u but skinny or just regular...hard to tell or remember as i've been feeling pretty crappy and my notes are starting not to make sense....

i welcome suggestions....

ok in 2 hrs time it's pmps....so i will try to catch a nap...haven't had one yet....

I used caninsulin and Tray was all over the place including an ER visit for hypo twice. Well that did it for me and my vet, he and I both prefer Lantus, much easier on this bean's heart and Tray gained all his pre FD weight only on Lantus. but each cat is different so Rocket might do well on it, hard to say. Perhaps more people will weigh in.

My continued prayers and vines for your furbaby

Re: 1/10 Rocket AMPS 113 +3.5 74 +4 90 +5.5 121 -insulin ???

IMHO, Rocket's numbers look good. Keep doing what you're doing.

As far as the Caninsulin issue goes, I've not used it so I can't comment. What observation I will make is that many vets are not knowledgeable about Lantus. My bet is that your vet is more comfortable with Caninsulin than Lantus. Rocket's been doing great BG-wise. Why would you switch?

Re: 1/10 Rocket PMPS 157

pmps 157
won't change doses until he is better....
and i won't change insulin either....and yeah Sienne...vet is more experienced with caninsulin than lantus...as the previous vet is the one that rx Rocket the lantus the first time around...this time around i asked for lantus as it was the insulin i knew and trusted based on him being otj once....

appetite is not good for him today....hit and miss...he is getting either the FF chicken, or the Proplan chicken or the Evo or a combo of them ...one serving he wants nothing to do with FF....only Evo...the next serving is either proplan or FF....

good thing this restaurant is well stocked up for Rocket.....

he still doesn't go to his dish...i gotta follow him around to make sure he eats....sending vet another email regarding that issue...

Re: 1/10 Rocket PMPS 157 +2.5 70

+1.5 i fed him a lil bit

+2 couldn't test as he was hiding in the closet and i couldn't access him...so i reached as far as i could and i put more food in there and he ate it

+2.5 70....so i fed him a lil more and this time he had already come out from the closet.... :YMSIGH:

trying to keep a close eye on him....

Re: 1/10 Rocket PMPS 157 +2.5 70

Hi Claudia. It sounds like rocket is doing a little better. I hope so, I hope too that the eating gets better. It sounds like it is slowly improving. Many positive thought coming your way from Mannie and me.

Re: 1/10 Rocket PMPS 157 +2.5 70 +3 68

+3 68 doesn't want to eat

will test in half hr and see where he is at....no rest for this bean that's for sure....he keeps me on my toes...

Re: 1/10 Rocket PMPS 157 +2.5 70 +3 68 +3.5 76

Claudia & Rocket: I hope that you both will have a better night tonight. Thinking of you. Don't know anything about Caninsulin except that it is the British/Canadian version of the US Vetsulin. And I think I read somewhere that Vetsulin was in the process of being either recalled or discontinued. Stick with Lantus!!!

Hugs,
Ella & Rusty

AT +4 77.4 he does not want to eat...
gave zofran at +3.5

however worth noting...MILD TREMBLING FOR SOME REASON.....

oh so concerning....he wanted to go out on the hallway...he thinks he owns the whole floor (for those of you who may not know this....we live in a condo highrise...so when it's too cold for him to go out on the balcony...he picks to be let out in the hallway.....2 of our neighbours have cats and Rocket likes to pick a fight with them...well not really....but as though to tell them he is FREE and they're NOT....so he sits in front of their door hissing)...which may take away the trembling.....

to be continued.....

thanks Ella...vet did mention it was Canadian or whatever....she swears by it....but her dosing only if he is above 270 makes me question following her instructions...so she may not be too knowledgeable with the insulin whatever type it may be

gotta go check on Rocket as he patrols the hallway....brb
