Finally heard back from the vet late yesterday! This is what he said:

I talked with the specialist late last night. He feels the leg is healing slowly. He did feel diabetes is playing a role in slowing the healing. He recommends keeping the splint on and x raying it every 3 weeks . So good news. He believes another 4 to 6 weeks should do it.

Dr Gregory

I'm relieved to hear she can heal (we hope) without surgery! It's traumatic and she's been through so much - now if we can just keep her cast clean - we've devised a new method by adding fresh - large - bandaids - the waterproof kind - around the very end of the cast - the part that steps into the kitty litter - ugh - and that appears to be less porous and less attractive to the stickiness of the litter. So we'll be buying a lot of big bandaids over the next few weeks! I think we can handle that!

Sending prayers to our little Boomer @Judy and Boomer. Have a good Friday everyone - I hope your kitties will all surf - and avoid the lemon tree today!

Thats great shes healing ! Slowly but shes healing . Oh i never thought about her cast getting dirty stepping in the litter box . Wow yes that would be a problem . I hope she heals soon and no surgery !
Have a great day Sue and Luci !

That is the GREATEST News.....praying that her paw heals and mends on its' own without surgery.

Have a good day Sue and I hope Luci decides the beach is more fun than the lemon tree:)

I guess that's the worst part of it...and even though I'm super diligent about keeping the LB clean - she gets in there and walks around and inevitably the litter comes out and she tracks it around - sometimes with added bits of disgusting stuff...I'm constantly cleaning the floors now...I just CANNOT tolerate the thoughts of us walking thru the LB too... ugh :arghh::mad::arghh::mad::arghh:

That's good news Sue! I'm glad they've taken surgery off the table and it's just a waiting game now. I hope you have some patience shorts!!
Sorry about the collateral damage of litter being tracked everywhere, I always imagine you in bare feet but I guess it's probably not an option these days!! :p

Yes, I've put on my patience shorts for this one - and my flip flops too. I'm actually quite relieved that the docs did not think surgery was required to get her healed up. And DH and I had both wondered if her diabetes was causing her healing to be delayed...so it's all good. She doesn't seem any worse for the wear in the cast - I'm at the ready with my broom and mop - and sanitizer in hand! LOL!:facepalm:

At least she doesn't have to go through the trauma of surgery - I think that's so hard for them to understand - and the postop pain - well, I'm just very relieved at this point :bighug:

Her next appointment for an x-ray is February 6 - it'll be here before we know it - fingers and paws crossed that will be her magic date :D:D

Jojo and salem are pooing in the front of the litter box on the floor and on the sides of the inside of the box . I bet you are!! Surgery is so stressful on their little bodies too. I know I'd happily walk through litter and cat poo to avoid it. What a relief for all of you. :bighug:

Hey Tina, (Sue, I hope you don't mind the hi-jack) when Leo had neuropathy, I bought a large plastic container that's wide and long with with low sides, so he could get in and out easier, the ones for wrapping paper. I still use it. It's not a beautiful thing, and takes up more room but it really works great because there's so much more room, he can walk around his deposits and not get anything yuckie on his feet.

No problem at all...as long as we're on the subject! Tina, do you have enough room for a 'kiddy pool'? I've heard some people use those with litter - but it will require a large space - perhaps in a basement? I don't have enough room - but it would certainly give kitties enough room to cover and walk around the deposits...but still would require maintenance - oh the joys of cleaning those LB's, huh? Every day, many times twice a day, I'm scooping the pooper...:facepalm:

Very glad to hear this news! You must be greatly relieved. It makes sense that the diabetes could be slowing down the healing process.

SO GOOD news !!! Very happy for Luci specially that she really seems to be comfy with her cast. I hope those very large waterproof bandaids keep it clean !:)
It makes sense for the healing process and diabetes !!
