Yesterday saw lots of yellow and some blue Libre numbers.
Gave a manicure and pedicure, which were not appreciated by the princess as she napped in the sun on a comfy chair:eek:
She didn’t stay napping for long during that fun event:rolleyes:

Saw an extreme dip this morning around +2.5 and now she’s bounced back up again, so we’ll see how things go today.

Hope everyone has a safe day and stay warm.
It sure is cold here, I’m ready for Spring. :cat:

Good meowning Staci and bouncy girl!
Ivy can we please calm down and come to the beach where Nestle is PAWtiently waiting.
He wants to see you and your new mani/pedi.
Staci did you pick he right colors for the mani/pedi?!?!? :p:D:joyful::cat:

Wishing you a calm and boring Furrrrrriday :cat::cat:

Hi Staci.
Love the mani & pedi while Ms. Ivy briefly napped:p:joyful:
Butch did the dip at the +2.5 :D and is now bouncing up too.
Hope Ivy decides to come down and surfs steady.
Have a nice weekend and safe surfing, Ivy!

Safe surfing Ms Ivy! Mani-Pedi's are a luxury us humans pay big $ pretty princess! LOL! Sending hugs your way, Staci! How is Ivy doing w/the methimazole? I've not been on in a while. :bighug::bighug:
You’re right, Christine, and she fights me on it too. I have to wear protective gear when I give her a Mani-pedi. She’s a feisty one.

I think she’s doing OK with the methimazole. I’m not sure that we are still at the right dose yet. We will be retesting her T4 next Friday so we shall see. But she seems to tolerate the transdermal with no bad effect as far as I can tell.
In March, it will be a year on that ride which complicated our lives even further :banghead:

Wishing you and your gang all the best. I know you have your hands quite full. Sending you lots of love.:bighug::bighug::bighug:

Hi Staci, Ivy does everything, you get your daily challenges. Manicure, pedicure and installing the libre are the special highlights, for sure. Seems the new dose starts showing effects. I hope she goes overall lower and you see more blue numbers soon! Some Yves Klein for inspiration! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

I like the Klein blue splatter. I will show it to Ivy for inspiration. Maybe tinged with dark green, to make turquoise!
My spoiled girl just screams when I do any of her personal grooming things. You’d think by now she works be used to it all. But nope!!
And we go on, one day at a time.
Wishing you and Binie a Klein night, too Heike

Is she a candidate for radioactive iodine therapy? Almost 10 yrs ago I had a kitty (Whip) who would eat methimazole chews and this worked for a while but then we did the I-131 treatment and it cured him. He was not diabetic and had no other medical conditions. He was 13 at time of treatment. He ended up succumbing to liver cancer but the suspicious spot on liver was actually found as part of work up prior to doing the I-131.

He had to stay quarantined for a few days after treatment and after coming home I had to keep him separated from other cats and kids for a period of time.

Anyway, just curious. It was not a low cost treatment but it did cure him. I think I pursued it b/c it got harder to regulate him with the methimazole.

Hi Laura, thanks for letting me know about your experience with Whip. I’m sorry that you lost him the way that you did.
I’m glad to hear he did well with the I131 treatment.

I have a lot of concerns about doing the treatment for Ivy, especially because she’s such a difficult patient.
They wouldn’t really be able to handle her because she’s very difficult (especially when I’m not there).
It’s not the shot of the I131 I’m concerned about, it’s about the after care while staying at the facility.
She would certainly need insulin and she needs coaxing to eat on a regular basis when she’s at home. So I don’t know if she would eat on her own at a facility and if they’re not willing to intervene, that could be a problem.
Plus, we’re not really sure of her kidney situation. I do think it’s being masked by the hyperthyroid condition.
I did have one facility tell me that they didn’t think she was a good candidate (and they know her because they’ve treated her and their internal medicine department) and I think they think she’s a real pain in the butt (which she is).
I’m sure they’re not really looking to take on cats that are fractious and difficult to manage on a good day, let alone there for an extended period who need Insulin Shots etc.
So as much as I’d love to have the procedure done for her, I just don’t know if she would do well in the situation-at the facility.

I still think about how much I should push for the treatment.
I’m so conflicted:(

I really appreciate your thoughts @MinnerPip

There are so many factors that can make decisions difficult. I wondered if her diabetes may be a factor, and the need to rely on caretakers (who are likely strangers to her) to properly administer insulin, monitor her glucose levels, and ensure she is eating. I don’t remember how many days Whip had to stay at the facility before coming home. I also don’t know if a given facility could offer any kind of flexibility to give the owner brief periods of access to their cat during the quarantine period to do feedings or shots, or if that is a liability that they cannot accommodate.

It’s awesome that there is a transdermal methimazole. I don’t recall that being an option when I had Whip. He was extremely difficult to pill so the compounded chews were a savior as he enjoyed eating them.

Crossing fingers you get normal range T4 … and/or get to right dose soon. It does seem like it was a bit of trial and error to get to right dose and even then had to recheck as the dosing may have to be increased over time.
