Sammy still is high this morning. i gave her skinny .25 this morning. I will be home so can watch her. She was starving... ate her 1/2 can FF and hollered for more (so polite, she didnt just go steal her brother's food). I am curious to see if eating more will cause her pancreas to kick in more (which it should but....).

So, Question: those of you who have had dental work (canine tooth extraction) done on the cat.... was it a huge deal? what was the recovery like? i need to decide if I pop her in to have it done before I leave for holidays. I leave on the evening of the 8th of January. After that, for 2 weeks, she will be visited at least twice a day by my son, but not have anyone living here.

What would you do?

Both Autumn and Maxwell have had dentals and at least neither of them had a problem with it at all. Higher numbers of course from stress and the withheld shot on the morning of the dental with Autumn since Maxwell was already OTJ when he had his.

Autumn smoothed out a lot and became much more predictable once it was done. Her mouth was a mess she had eight teeth/roots removed as well as had 3 bbs dug out of her jaw. ( long story)
She was starving and demanded to eat as soon as she decided I wasn't complete scum. ( about 2 hours)

I would highly recommend getting it done as soon as possible. If you decide to go for it find out what anesthesia the vet plans to use. You want gas not injectable, with gas they can bring them up quickly if something should go wrong plus has the least residual effects. Also if they will do xrays before and after.

That tooth coming out could just be the key to push her into OTJ. Since you already have infection and then add pain of a bad tooth. Is your son able to test?

thanks Mel. Yes, Brian is a pro at testing, and he has no problem doing whatever Sammy needs. He covered for me for 2 weeks in November, and they did great. I am not at all concerned about her diabetic care, Brian (tecnobrat on the boards) will do what she needs. I was thinking that there might be a need for pain meds?

My cat Max had a canine extracted last year. He did pretty well. Didn't like me for a little bit, he's my kitty that knows how to hold a grudge, but came around and didn't have any problems with recovery. He had a little stitch that dissolved after maybe 5 -7 days.
