I got a call from the nursing home at 2am to come see my mother.... she was not good. The emt's were with her.
By the time we got there, she was already gone. Her breathing has been getting rougher and rougher and our best estimate was that she was in Stage 4 copd.
Her lungs were failing. And night time was always the hardest for her, she wouldn't wear a cpap and she desperately needed it as she was a mouth breather while
she slept.
My DGM and I saw her at lunch yesterday and sat with her for a while visiting until she was ready to take a nap. I bought her some miniature roses at the grocery store
that I was going to take out to her tomorrow.
I was prepared for it as much as I could be. She's been here only 9 days.
My DGM is the same.... we have waited and watched and wondered for a few years.
Our prayer was answered that my DM go first. ( a weird thing to pray for, I know.) We've been afraid for years that my dgm would go first and then things would have been really awful for my DM.
Now my prayer is that my DGM not give up and let go. She's held on so long taking care of my DM.
I hope we have her around for a long while.
It's pretty surreal.
I kept waiting for my mother to take a breath while I sat there waiting for my DH to bring my DGM ( she needed to see her for closure) ..... I am so used to her struggling to breathe.
Shadow and I are sitting up for a bit.
