Tinkles is doing well, but my lancet pen broke late last night so I had to freehand! The first poke went great and I was thinking that maybe I could just freehand from now on. The next test...not so much! It was an ordeal to get the tests done, and I'm sure all of the ones from +6 on were stress affected. Tinkles was not amused!! Even though I was stressing him, I got the tests anyway because a stressed number is better than NO number.

WCR: Tinkles is a happy boy, except when I'm testing him. He is playful and eating well, all P's in place.

I'm heading out in a few minutes to get another lancet pen!

I don't know how I would freehand it after using the device for so long. Good for you for getting those tests anyway. I agree....it's better than having no number at all. Hope you have a great day Laurie! :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

I ran in to my local pharmacy to get a lancet pen, and they didn't have any. The owner/pharmacist was there and he gave me a Bayer Contour meter kit....what a nice gesture! I do fill my DD's scripts there, and they know me...but still, that was very nice! I guess it pays to have a relationship with a local independently owned pharmacy. So now I also have a good backup meter in addition to a new lancet pen! :-D :-D :-D

Happy New Year Laurie and Mr Tickles. How nice that the pharmacist not only gives you a new pen but a new meter as well. I never have been able to use a lancet pen with Tori. She hates the noise so I've always gone freehand. Mind you she also likes to be held like a baby when she's tested and hates to have her shots anywhere else but in her tummy. ECID right?

What a lovely gesture on the pharmacist's part! I freehand. I could never get comfortable with the pen and never felt like it gave me good control. EBID, I guess!

I could never use those pens.. I freehand always, I guess it is what you get used to. Sorry to hear your pen broke though :YMSIGH:

I have never had much luck with using the pens either - I freehand also! Great numbers for Mr. Tinkles to start the New Year out with!!!!

I bruised his ear up so badly from trying to freehand, never again! :shock: I'm going to buy a backup pen, in case that happens again. He visibly flinched from the freehand pokes, I had to poke several times and still had a lot of trouble getting blood. The pen is reliable for me, one poke every time...it's rare that I need to poke more than once. I agree, it is all in what you are used to!

Fortunately, he was only a little hesitant to come for testing for the first test once I got the new pen. With as much as I test, and as low as Tinkles has been running lately, I don't need to start having testing issues! :roll:

I use a lancet pen also!! 1 poke most of the time too (except when he comes back from the cold outside)..
